AlloyGator appoints Auto4 as distributor

AlloyGator, designer and manufacturer of a British-made alloy wheel protection system, has announced the appointment of Auto4 as its UK distributor. The company says the agreement will help strengthen its UK distribution and support significant growth. Michelin Americas adds TravelCenters to X One network

Further outlets have been added to Michelin Americas Truck Tires’ fleet network following an agreement with TravelCenters of America (TA), operator of the TA and Petro Stopping Centers branded travel centres. The addition of these TA/Petro locations will expand the total number of Michelin X One servicing dealers to nearly 2,000 locations throughout the US.

Polish chemical firm supplying SSBR, ESBR to Goodyear

On 23 August Polish chemical manufacturer Synthos SA informed the Warsaw Stock Exchange it has signed a supply deal with Goodyear Tire & Rubber. The agreement is valid until 31 December 2012 and covers the supply of solution styrene butadiene rubber and emulsion styrene butadiene rubber. The contract is valued at approximately PLN 3.74 billion (£709 million); the price to be paid is based upon a formula that takes into account the market price of raw materials.

Citroën DS3 R3 car of choice for 2013 Pirelli UK Star Driver

The vehicle to be used in next year’s Pirelli UK Star Driver scheme has been confirmed after the Italian tyre maker reached an agreement with Citroën Racing. Contenders in the 2013 Star Driver programme will put their skills to the test behind the wheel of a 1.6 litre, turbocharged Citroën DS3 R3.

Terms agreed for Titan Europe share offer

News of Titan International’s moves to acquire Titan Europe PLC has been public for about a month now, but to fulfil Rule 2.7 of the Takeover Code, the company announced on 10 August its formal acquisition offer. In a statement, Titan International reports that agreement has been reached between the board of Titan International and the independent directors of Titan Europe on the terms of a recommended share offer for Titan Europe’s entire issued and to be issued share capital.

Cordiant investment plans include large, ultra-large tyre production

Russian tyre maker Cordiant, formerly Sibur-Russian Tyres, confirmed in late July plans to invest US$400 million in its Western Siberia tyre plants. This announcement was made following a plant visit undertaken by Omsk region governor Viktor Nazarov on 27 July.

Zafco, Pirelli sign Armstrong brand licensing agreement

Pirelli Tyre SpA and Zafco have signed an agreement that will allow Zafco to use the previously mothballed Armstrong brand under license for five years. The UAE-based company has an understanding with Pirelli that it can acquire the brand from Pirelli within the five years of the licensing agreement, which was signed on 23 April, 2012. Asif Yusufzai, member of Zafco’s board of directors, described the deal as marking a momentous occasion for both Zafco and the Armstrong brand. Zafco said that Armstrong tyres will be manufactured at reputable factories commensurate with its internationally recognised high quality.

Titan buys Planet Group

Titan International, Inc. has signed an agreement to purchase a majority ownership interest in Planet Corporation Group of Companies (“Planet”) in an all-cash transaction. Planet includes National Tyres, Acme Wheel, Resource Tyre and Choice Tyres Wholesalers and is based in Perth, Australia. The purchase price and revenue information will be released upon closing which is expected to be within 10 days.

Pirelli Egypt workers gain presidential ear

A sit-in involving some three hundred workers from Pirelli’s factory in Alexandria, Egypt, ended after assurances were made that their grievances would be presented to Egypt’s newly sworn in President, Mohamed Morsi. The Egypt Independent shares that the workers staged the sit-in in front of the presidential palace in Cairo on 5 July to protest against alleged violations of labour laws.

Cordiant to invest in Omskshina plant

According to OJSC Cordiant director Dmitry Sokov, management at the tyre maker, which formerly operated under the name Sibur-Russian Tyres, has proposed its shareholders invest some US$400 million in the development of tyre production at the company’s Omskshina factory in Russia’s Omsk region. This plan involves several investment projects, including new production facilities for giant tyres and passenger car tyres.

Kumho to work with Chinese university

At the end of May, Kumho Tire China and the Qingdao University of Science and Technology signed a strategic cooperation agreement. According to the university, under the new agreement the two entities will increase their joint work in a number of areas. Graduate students will be trained at a Kumho-established research and development centre, which is described as being a world class facility, and both parties will cooperate on developing tyre industry solutions, such as the development of environmentally-friendly materials.

Goodyear gets Bombardier OE deal

Goodyear Aviation will supply its Flight Radial tyre to the new Bombardier Global 7000 and Global 8000 business aircraft, scheduled to enter service in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Goodyear will provide the aircraft manufacturer with nose and main radial tyres for both the original equipment and replacement channels, according to Bert Aertssen, general manager, global aviation, Goodyear. “This award underscores Goodyear’s commitment to providing the industry with revolutionary radial tyre solutions with the incorporation of alloy core bead technology,” he said.

Go Plant chooses Vacu-Lug retreads

Ibstock, Leicestershire-based Go Plant Limited has signed a two-year fixed price contract for the supply and management of tyres for its nationwide fleet of refuse collectors, sweepers and other specialist vehicles with Vacu-Lug.

Triangle to research aircraft radial development

On 4 May, the Triangle Group and the Harbin Institute of Technology signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the development of radial aircraft tyre technology. The agreement was signed at Triangle’s headquarters in Shandong Province by company chairman Ding Yuhua and Feng Ji from the Harbin Institute of Technology. Under the terms of the agreement, the two entities will set up a facility that draws upon the Weihai-based institute’s expertise in the areas of composite materials, engineering mechanics, automotive, mechanical design and manufacturing and information management professions and disciplines. Research will focus on developing tyres for larger aircraft, such as commercial airliners.

PressurePro and Alliance Wireless begin TPMS partnership

Tyre pressure monitoring system technology provider Advantage PressurePro and Alliance Wireless Technologies, manufacturer of mobile rear vision camera systems and wireless communications products, have announced a new partnership agreement. The companies, who have worked together since 2009 as integration partners on Advance Wireless’ Vivid units, have formed a new relationship to bring PressurePro’s stand alone TPMS units to the waste and commercial markets.
