Bike moto dealer mag awards Dunlop SportSmart

Dunlop’s SportSmart motorcycle tyre has received the ‘Best Aftermarket Product’ certificate of merit from British Dealer News. The awards are given as a result of votes registered by over 500 motorcycle dealerships in the UK. In their tenth year, the awards have gained a prestigious reputation within the motorcycle industry. Tyres & Accessories reported on the technologies used in the SportSmart tyre – MultiTread compound, Jointless Belt construction and the NTEC pressure-adjustment system – in its February issue (pp. 66-7, or click the first link in the related news section below).

TPMS is the future, says Autogem

In order to prosper in today's competitive market, a company needs to be able to identify trends and wholeheartedly embrace new opportunities. A good example of this is Autogem, which used to be a market leader in the supply of exhaust fittings and workshop consumables, but which is now regarded as an authority on tyre pressure monitoring systems.

While it is true that all run-flat tyres must have some form of TPMS, the number is still comparatively small. However, says Prashant Chopra, managing partner at Autogem, this will all change, as from November 2012, a European Directive states that all new category M1 vehicles will have to be fitted with TPMS.

Wegmann Automotive has named Thorsten Thom as its new managing director. The 40 year-old industrial engineering graduate ascended to the position on 1 January 2011. He joins Felix Bode and Markus Vogler on the Group's board of directors.

Growth Seen in European On-Road Tyre Markets During November

Europe’s passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyre markets returned to year-on-year growth in November, reports Pirelli. The Italian tyre maker estimates a three per cent year-on-year growth in the region’s (excluding Russia) original equipment market plus replacement market growth of 15 per cent. Year to date, Pirelli’s estimates peg European OE market growth at 13 per cent and the aftermarket at eight per cent.

Brityrex 2010 Gets Underway

The long-awaited Brityrex 2010 exhibition got underway today, with a significant increase in visitor footfall compared to the same point in the last show back in 2007. Apaseal’s Bruce Somerville, who is exhibiting at the show, described it as “the best start to Brityrex for many years.” Official figures have not yet been released, however exhibition organiser ECI International is expected to confirm these observations when it releases initial show figures tomorrow.

Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Appoints New Marketing Manager

Robert Bosch has appointed Abhijit Kallianpur as marketing manager for the Automotive Aftermarket division based in Denham. Abhijit has worked at Bosch in India for 15 years, working in Diesel Systems for much of that time. He joined the Automotive Aftermarket division in 2005 in Product Marketing, Germany. He moved back to Bosch India in 2007, taking over responsibilities for Product Marketing, as well as Purchasing and Quality Management of traded products.

Titan Prices to Rise

Prices for Titan branded aftermarket OTR tyres will rise be approximately three to ten per cent when the company’s latest planned price increases are implemented on October 1, 2010. Titan Tire Corporation says this price adjustment will offset rising raw material, energy and transportation costs, and the company warns that “certain tyre prices” may rise in excess of ten per cent due to product realignment and positioning.

How Will TPMS Change the Tyre Retail Business?

From 2012 European legislation dictates that all new cars will be fitted with tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). With many modern vehicles already being fitted with them and the pressure watching technology due to become mandatory Tyres & Accessories has researched and compiled the latest information on the subject in order to answer the question: how will TPMS change the tyre retail business?

To start off with, there certainly appears to be a need for it. The 2008 Annual Tyre Pressure Review undertaken by Kwik-Fit found just over 46 per cent of cars tested had at least one tyre underinflated. Scaled up to represent the current level of UK registrations, this means that a staggering 12.46 million cars could be running on the roads like this, using £1.5 billion pounds of extra fuel and creating literally thousands of extra tons of carbon emissions. That 30 per cent extra tyre wear also means that an unnecessary 108,000 tyres each year have to be manufactured and disposed of too.

Varta Launches Aftermarket Start-Stop Battery Range

From 2012, the EU requires maximum vehicle CO2 emissions levels to be reduced to 130 g/km across Europe. Start-stop technology, also known as micro hybrid technology, is a key part of vehicle manufacturers’ efforts to meet this target. Interest in start-stop has already skyrocketed, and forecasts indicate that 70 per cent of all vehicles produced in Europe by 2015 will feature this technology. Under its Varta brand, Johnson Controls Power Solutions EMEA has developed AGM and EFB batteries it says can meet the demands of this technology, and its Varta Start-Stop Plus and Start-Stop batteries are now ready to be launched to the aftermarket.

Euro Car Parts Offers ‘The Largest Range of React Cats and Front Pipes’

Leading aftermarket parts supplier, Euro Car Parts (ECP), has reported that it stocks “the largest range of Cats and front pipes with over 500 front pipes and over 1,500 Cats from in the React Brand. Revolution Motorstore Voted CAT ‘Retailer of the Year’

Gateshead based tuner Revolution Motorstore has taken Car and Accessory Trader magazine’s ‘Retailer of the Year’ Award for 2010. CAT, a magazine for aftermarket professionals, holds the awards ceremony each year. Each award category is voted for solely by members of the general public, with an online voting system permitting patrons of the nominated businesses to register one vote for their preferred winner – as well as being able to leave a comment on the quality of service they have received.
