In November, the UK automotive buying group, A1 Motor Stores, announced it had added 37 Tetrosyl-owned branches – almost doubling its motor factor membership from 40 – after months of talks came to a successful conclusion.
The Parts Alliance Group has been acquired from its private equity owner HgCapital by Uni-Select Inc., a Canadian publicly listed, North American Automotive aftermarket distributor.
New owners Uni-Select operate as a market-leader in the USA and Canada, distributing automotive aftermarket parts, equipment and refinish products through a network of 14 distribution centres, 270 corporate stores and over 1,100 independent wholesalers with 3,000 employees generating sales of $1.2 billion USD per annum.

Since the middle of last year, STARCO has oriented its focus towards the original equipment business, and is currently phasing out most of its replacement market activities in Europe. On 31 March, the company exited the replacement business in France and reduced its aftermarket presence in Poland, where it is now restricting its sales to solid forklift tyres. Autogem is exclusively distributing Tire Profiles Inc’s TreadSpec and Groove Glove tyre tread depth and wheel alignment diagnostic equipment. Tire Profiles is designed to help auto dealers and repair shops sell more tyres, wheel alignments and other “around the wheel” repairs, by providing equipment and processes that create “a sound repeatable process”. The solution works on the philosophy that “it is not the measurement that matters but rather what one does with the measurement which has driven”.
Euro Car Parts has started a petition in support of the current 3-1-1 MOT test regime. Joining industry voices such as the NTDA and IAAF, Euro Car Parts has voiced concerns that road users’ safety will be compromised if the date of a car’s first MOT is extended to four years.
Not only is Automechanika Birmingham 2017 set to be 70 per cent bigger than last year’s inaugural show, this year’s event seeks to connect the aftermarket with industry and government to support inward investment. Speaking at a press conference in central London on 9 March, Automechanika Birmingham event director Simon Albert and SMMT chief executive shared how they will bring the UK automotive industry together as part of efforts to “boost supply chain reshoring and make British cars more British” while at the same connecting the manufacturing and aftermarket sectors with each other.

Technicians are witnessing high volumes of vehicles experiencing carbon build-up, according to a recent Garage Wire survey on behalf of EDT Automotive.
According to the results, 77 per cent of the technicians that participated witnessed the problem in ‘quite a lot’ of vehicles or more, with 13 per cent saying that ‘nearly all’ of the vehicles brought in to their workshops were blighted with the issue.
