Battery tests should be part of winter checks
International News, Product News, UK NewsAs temperatures get colder, motorists get more conscious of their car’s conditions. In some instances – especially in colder European markets – this means changing to winter tyres. Meanwhile testing lights are a matter of course for drivers. However, the car battery is often neglected, although it is under even more stress during the cold season. For example, continuous use of the windshield heater or the air conditioning system takes a large amount of power and makes heavy demands on the battery. Especially in winter, the only way to avoid unpleasant surprises is to have the battery checked regularly by the workshop – something battery maker Johnson Controls is advocating. The latest ADAC statistics show that 39 per cent of all breakdowns are due to the battery.
Delphi closes nuTonomy acquisition
Product NewsDelphi Automotive, which will soon to become Aptiv, has closed its acquisition of nuTonomy, a leading developer of autonomous driving (AD) software solutions.
The deal, which was first announced on 24 October, sees Delphi pay an upfront purchase price of US$400 million and earn-outs totalling approximately $50 million.
Delphi and The Parts Alliance name six ‘Best of Brakes’ winners
UK NewsThe Parts Alliance says their second major braking promotion of 2017, developed in conjunction with Delphi, has now found all of its main winners.
‘Best of Brakes’ ran throughout September and October, offering six spectacular holidays, alongside 25,000 smaller prizes via scratch cards, included with Delphi brake pads.
The holiday cards were found by Graham Clark of Anderson Clark Motor Repairs in Inverness. The longstanding customer of Dingbro Inverness will be heading to Australia, whilst East Kilbride branch customer Alan Knox of Knox Brothers will jet out to Canada.

NMDA Autumn Dealer Attitude Survey shows general satisfaction with manufacturers
UK News“The NMDA is pleased to see that this year’s Autumn 2017 Dealer Attitude Survey received a high response rate of 36 per cent made up of nine main brands. Participants in this survey were made up of 75 per cent of independently owned franchise dealers, and 22 per cent privately owned groups. 61 per cent were single brand dealer’s whist the remainder of 39 per cent were multi-franchised.” commented Stephen Latham, Head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA).

Euro Car Parts to divest 9 Andrew Page branches for CMA clearance
UK NewsEuro Car Parts has welcomed the decision by the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) to give approval to its proposed acquisition of Andrew Page, subject to the divestment of nine branches. The 9 branches are: Blackpool, Brighton, Gloucester, Liphook, Scunthorpe, Sunderland, Wakefield, Worthing and York. Swindon had also been identified during the provisional findings stage, but new evidence came to light which resulted in the group deciding that competition would not be affected in this area.
The Parts Alliance’s South West Show attracts 500
NewsThe Parts Alliance’s South West Garage and Workshop Show has returned for 2017 even ‘bigger and better’. Storm-like conditions failed to deter well over 500 garage owners and mechanics from visiting Sandy Park, home to English Premiership side Exeter Chiefs, on the evening of Thursday 19 October.
