SRI Increases Prices

SRI Tire Trading Ltd., the tyre export wing of the Sumitomo Rubber’ Group, will increase the prices of the company’s Dunlop, Falken and Sumitomo brands in Asia, the Near and Middle East, North America, Central and South America, Africa and Pacific nations. In Europe the price of Falken and Sumitomo brand passenger car, light truck, truck and bus and motorcycle tyres will also increase. The price hikes are expected to take place at the beginning in September and will be in the range of 5 to 10 per cent.

Midas Mileage Awarded Star Export House Status

General Rubbers, the manufacturer of Midas brand of tyre retreading materials, has recently been certified as a Star Export House by the Ministry of Trade and Finance. This was in recognition of the excellent growth in sales of its products in international markets over the past few years.

North America’s Largest Independent Tyre Exporter

Hercules Tire International, based in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, is the largest independent tyre exporter in North America, with warehouses in Canada, the USA and China. The company’s export lines cover a vast range of different brands, prices and grades of tyre, from passenger car and light truck tyres to very large off-the-road and speciality tyres. Hercules’ own brands include Hercules, Merit, Electra and Ironman – all of which are manufactured in the USA and China.

Tyrexpo Africa – The Signs are Looking Good

The inaugural Tyrexpo Africa exhibition will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, from 12 – 14 September and is the latest event in the portfolio of ECI International, following on from Tyrexpo Asia (based in Singapore) and Brityrex International (UK).

Motorcyclist Magazine selects Dunlop Qualifier as Best New Product

Motorcyclist, the US-based magazine for motorbike enthusiasts, has announced that the Dunlop Qualifier, Dunlop’s latest motorcycle tyre designed specifically for supersport and hypersport motorcycles, has been named the Best New Product of 2006. “When we first sampled Dunlop’s excellent new Qualifier sport radials late last year, we figured we might have our Best New Product nailed down early,” said Mitch Boehm, Motorcyclist editor.

Over a Billion Tune in to Maxxis British MX Championship

With a TV audience estimated at over a billion people, the Maxxis British Motocross Championship is attracting a huge following around the world, according to the company. The series is currently seen in almost 500 million homes throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas, according to a report from Greenlight Television, which signed a TV deal with the Auto Cycle Union in February.

Varga Trading Gets ISO 9001:2000 Accreditation

Dubai-based Varga Trading co LLC has received ISO 9001:2000 accreditation. The 29-year-old company is said to have applied for the accreditation as part of its plans to be become a large scale tyre ditstributor.

Apollo Tyres Net Sales Grow 33 per cent in Q1 2006-07

Apollo Tyres Ltd’s un-audited financial results for the first quarter of the 2006-07 financial year show net sales grew over 33 per cent to 757.2 billion rupees from 568 billion rupees. The company also reported that a 20 per cent growth in unit volume was led by increased radial car and truck tyre sales. Post tax profits remained stable at 1.62 billion rupees. In the past quarter Apollo has raised selling prices by around 9 per cent across its range.

Bandag Reports Second Quarter Results

Bandag, Incorporated reported consolidated net sales for second quarter 2006 of $247.3 million compared to consolidated net sales of $227.3 million in second quarter 2005, an increase of nine percent. Consolidated net sales were positively impacted by approximately $4.1 million due to the effect of translating foreign currency denominated net sales into U.S. dollars. Consolidated net earnings were $10.5 million, or $0.54 per diluted share, for second quarter 2006, compared to second quarter 2005 consolidated net earnings of $12.7 million, or $0.65 per diluted share.

Treadsetters Kenya Opens third Bandag Retreading Shop

Leading tyre specialist Treadsetters Tyres Ltd. Kenya, which has been a Bandag Dealer for 15 years, has chosen Kisumu, Kenya as the location for its third Bandag retreading shop.

Described as a busy, lively port and road hub on Lake Victoria, Kisumu is Kenya’s third-largest city, after the capital Nairobi and the port of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean. Treadsetters Tyres chose the location because the town is a major centre on the transport corridor between the coast and Uganda.

The price increase will be in the range of 5 to 10 per cent, depending on tyre categories, tyre sizes and markets.

Arguably the world’s largest tyre trade exhibition, Reifen Messe Essen 2006 was the biggest show in the history of the exhibition. The 24th show since the exhibition premiered in 1960, this year’s event attracted 17,100 tyre specialists (up 8 per cent) from over 80 countries, according to the organisers. In amongst the 473 suppliers (up 15 per cent) from 42 countries, a handful of UK wholesalers (Bond International, King’s Road Tyres, Kirkby Tyres, Treadsetters, and North West Tyres) led the way for the 22-strong British company contingent.
