Demand for new commercial vehicles rose across the European Union for the eighth consecutive month in August, reports the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). A total of 113,865 new registrations were recorded, a year-on-year increase of 8.7 per cent.
At the IAA show in Frankfurt yesterday, the president of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) outlined the automotive industry’s approach to tackling CO2 from road transport, focusing on the potential of intelligent transport systems (ITS). Carlos Ghosn also presented the EU industry’s new statement on the protection of personal data.
The recent sustained growth in new commercial vehicle registrations in the UK should continue for at least the rest of 2015, according to the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA). Sue Robinson, the association’s director, said she is “encouraged by the continued growth”, commenting on figures published by ACEA. The NFDA represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers across the UK.
Figures released by ACEA show that, in June 2015, demand for new passenger cars in the EU was up (+14.6 per cent), pursuing the upward trend commenced 22 months ago and marking the largest over-the-month increase since December 2009.
Figures published by ACEA show that, in May 2015, demand for new commercial vehicles in the EU increased (+6.0 per cent) for the fifth consecutive month, totalling 160,550 units. Growth was sustained across all commercial vehicle segments. Results were diverse among the major markets, with Germany (-9.1 per cent) and France (-5.6 per cent) facing a downturn, while Spain (+30.1 per cent) and the UK (+17.4 per cent) posted double‐digit growth.

Demand for new passenger cars in the European Union rose 10.6 per cent year-on-year in March 2015, with the ACEA, or European Automobile Manufacturers Association, reporting a total of 1,604,107 cars registered. This is the 19th consecutive month of growth, and it is a trend fuelled by all major markets – particularly Spain, where new passenger car registrations jumped 40.5 per cent to 112,299 units. Italy also enjoyed double-digit growth and recorded 161,303 new passenger car registrations in March, 15.1 per cent more than a year earlier. The greatest number of new registrations during the month took place in the UK, where 492,774 new passenger cars were registered, a 6.8 per cent increase on March 2014.
Passenger car registrations in the European Union (excluding Malta) rose for the 16th consecutive month in December 2014, with the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reporting sales of 951,329 units, which pushed the monthly tally up 4.7 per cent year-on-year. Looking at the largest markets, the demand increase was mainly led by the significant growth recorded in Spain (+21.4%), followed by the UK (+8.7%), Germany (+6.7%), and Italy (+2.4%), while the French market (-6.7%) displayed less activity than in December 2013. Substantial growth also posted by the new EU member states (+9.6%) and by the EFTA countries (+9.8%) contribute to explain last month’s positive outcome.
The UK car market continued to grow at a rate far higher than the European average in November. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association, or ACEA, reports that the UK market grew 8.0 per cent year-on-year during the month, contrasting with other major markets such as France, which contracted 2.7 per cent, and Germany, which shrank 1.8 per cent year-on-year. UK growth even outstripped that posted by the EU members that joined the union after 2004; their average year-on-year growth was 5.5 per cent in November. Average growth across the European Union during the month was 1.4 per cent.
The board of directors of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has re-elected Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Renault, as its President for 2015.
Speaking after his re-election, Ghosn said: “I am honoured that my colleagues on the Board have shown their continued confidence in me. 2014 is set to mark the first year of sales growth in the EU industry since 2007. Next year we will continue to push for a political environment that will help us sustain this growth.”
Registrations of new passenger cars within the European Union were up for the thirteenth month in a row in September. Figures from European motoring organisation ACEA reveal that, in June, the EU market of new commercial vehicles expanded for the tenth consecutive month. Demand increased by 10.3 per cent, totalling 166,107 units. Growth prevailed in the van segment, as well as that of buses and coaches, while the truck segment declined. All major markets expanded, from 3.8 per cent in France to 6.5 per cent in Germany, 8.6 per cent in Italy, 18.9 per cent in Spain and 25.5 per cent in the UK.
