Group Tyre Puts E-commerce to Work

Group Tyre claims to have seen “huge benefits” by continually investing in IT and embracing the e-commerce route. “We are constantly innovating,” says Group Tyre chairman John Church, “because we are committed to delivering a national-strength service, with immediacy of response on a truly local basis. By making IT work positively for us, we can provide a service that is literally second-to-none.”

The Group Link Virtual Warehouse is the main service offered to Group Tyre’s national wholesale network. The Windows based system confirms stock availability by providing real time stock data and expected delivery times. Together with mark-up guidelines, Group Link enables a customer enquiry to be processed with delivery and cost advised on the spot. The benefits of offering an e-commerce solution have been an improvement in customer care and sales which have had a massive impact in the independent tyre sector, says Group Tyre.

Cordiant Brand Launched in Cyprus

Following the first indications that the company would launch a new brand earlier this year, the Sibur Corporation has now officially launched the new “Cordiant” line. Sibur expects Cordiant to lay the foundation stone for the future success of the new tyre holding company which is due to be founded by the end of this year. Sibur also plans to use its modified brand strategy to focus more closely on the European markets, with the first successful step having already been taken in Eastern Europe.

The End is Near – Time for a New Beginning?

The problems Continental faces in the US are more or less ‘homemade’. The problem is there doesn’t appear to be any solution available unless you call a total tactical retreat from the biggest market in the world a solution. In the event that this happens, it is more than likely that the company would call such a decision to cease selling tyres in the US a “strategic withdrawl.”

In 1987 the Continental group did not have the financial resources (and was later unwilling) to spend the amount of money necessary to build up the company’s Continental and General brands. Now the current management has to pay for all the shortfalls left behind by its forbears. Meanwhile, in the midst of all this the US-arm of the group’s tyre division is again going to the dogs with a loss of more than 100 million euros. Nobody believes that a turnaround will take place this year, even though CEO Manfred Wennemer and his colleague Martien de Louw have suggested time and again that it would.

Pirelli Sweeps Baja Truck Category

Pirelli PS22 tyres swept the board in the Baja Aragon, round of the FIA Rally-Raid World Cup, at the end of July with two Iveco Eurocargo 140E24 WS trucks of Team Motorsport Italia crewed by local drivers Selga-Torra and Roque-Asurmendi-Diamante, taking first and second places respectively in the truck category of the event, preceding the third placed Mercedes-Benz 1844 AK on Pirelli, driven by Spain’s Oliveras-Campa/Capsada. The news comes six months after Markku Alen’s seventh place in the 2005 Paris-Dakar driving a Pirelli PS22-shod Iveco Eurocargo and Miki Biasion’s great performance in a similar vehicle on Pirelli until a simple technical problem stopped him from finishing the race, and the second place in Turkey’s Rally of the Orient, last June.

Link 51 Shows Shelving Versatility

A 23,000 square feet converted warehouse in Byfleet has become the £1 million vehicle after-sales centre for the Lance Owen organisation in the area. The complex is home to a wide range of components and parts, including such diverse products as body panels, bumper units, exhaust pipes and tyres. Each component presented a different storage problem and the answer was a two-tier shelving installation from Link 51, providing more than 3 kilometres of shelving space alongside a number of specialist bays.

According to the site’s parts director, Stephen Kettle, the system is ideal, with 13,000 individual lines now held in stock. He said: “The Link 51 design allows us to store up to £1.5 million worth of stock and, with rapid turn round of, often, no more than one month a characteristic of our business, the need for a highly effective and accessible storage system is clearly vital.
