Micheldever reports record General Tire sales in 2016

Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS), the exclusive General Tire distributor for England, Scotland and Wales, and the largest General Tire dealer in Europe, has reported record sales of General Car, Van and 4×4 tyres in 2016.

Sales volumes for the General Tire brand in 2016, increased by more than 50 per cent for MTS and the company saw many of its individual General Tire dealers experience record sales of their own.

GRI breaks ground on second tyre plant

Sri Lankan industrial tyre maker Global Rubber Industries, or GRI, has laid the foundation for its new off-road tyre factory. Groundbreaking took place 4 January and marks the start of construction on a plant that will be built with an investment of US$40 million. The facility will be built adjacent to GRI’s current solid industrial tyre factory in Badalgama, Sri Lanka.

Bridgestone to manufacture aircraft tyres in Thailand

At present, Bridgestone Corporation produces new aircraft tyres at two facilities in Japan, and the company has announced plans to build a third plant for manufacturing these products. This plant is one of two that Bridgestone will set up in Thailand; the second will be dedicated to the retreading of aircraft tyres. A total of 15.0 billion yen (£103.8 million) will be invested in the two facilities, and both are scheduled to commence production in December 2019.

De Rooy to fit Goodyear truck tyres in 2017 Dakar Rally campaign

The De Rooy team, winner of the 2016 Dakar rally truck class, is returning to defend its crown on Goodyear Offroad ORD tyres. Gerard De Rooy and his team chose the tyre for its four race trucks as well as fitting Goodyear Omnitrac mixed service tyres to their service trucks. The team will target a repeat success with the support of the tyre manufacturer, which will provide testing and back-up.

Yanchang Rubber, Van den Ban push ITMA to record high membership

Two significant international tyre businesses have become the latest companies to become members of the International Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA). Yanchang Rubber of China, and the Dutch Van den Ban Group have both joined the association, taking ITMA’s membership to new record levels. ITMA chairman, Alfred Graham said the complexity of the European marketplace – especially in the wake of Brexit – could make ITMA’s activities even more relevant in the coming years.

Cambrian Tyres importing Anlas Tyres for bikes, scooters

Starting in November 2016, Cambrian Tyres have begun distribution in the UK of Turkish two-wheel specialist tyre brand, Anlas. Already familiar to many in Europe with a history stretching back 40 years, Anlas manufactures a wide range of tyres from its factory in Duzce, between Istanbul and Ankara. The current Anlas range includes tyre applications for commuters and urban motorcycles; lightweight bikes; classic machines; large adventure motorcycles; and scooters and mopeds. Cambrian says the Anlas range offers riders excellent quality and value for money from a well-established European brand.
