Nokian Tyres: Net sales and profit up in Q1 2017

Net sales were up at Nokian Tyres in the first quarter of 2017 as was, despite increased raw material costs, net profit. Andrei Pantioukhov, the tyre maker’s interim president and chief executive officer, declared that Nokian Tyres “had a strong start of the year” and “demonstrated strong performance in all our main market areas.”

Kirkby Tyres expands OTR, earthmover coverage with popular brands

As a tyre wholesaler specialising in commercial tyre segments, Kirkby Tyres has progressively expanded its range of OTR tyres and wheels; the company states that its range of radial and bias tyres for earthmovers and construction vehicles is now “enormous and varied”. The wholesaler has distribution partnerships with several rising manufacturers, such as Alliance, BKT, and Double Coin, which have supported Kirkby’s competitive pricing strategy.

Apollo Tyres: Net profit down 16.1% in last quarter

The Board of Directors of Apollo Tyres Ltd has recommended a dividend payout of 300 per cent, or Rs 3 per share, after approving the company’s financial results for the 2016-17 financial year. Total revenues for the 12-month period ending 31 March 2017 increased 10.9 per cent to Rs 143.2 billion (£1.7 billion), while consolidated revenue came to Rs 130.6 billion (£1.6 billion). Net profit declined 2.1 per cent to Rs 11.0 billion (£131.5 million).

Apollo Tyres opens €475 million greenfield Hungarian plant

The opening of Apollo Tyres’ Gyöngyöshalász plant, 100km east of Budapest, marks a significant event for both the company’s global aspirations and the Indian tyre industry – the 72 hectare greenfield factory, begun in April 2015, is the first inaugurated by an Indian tyre company to come online outside the domestic market. The importance was reflected in the event itself, with some of the plant’s cavernous warehousing housing around 1,300 guests, among whose number was the prime minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, who declared Apollo’s sixth global tyre manufacturing plant – its second in Europe after the existing Netherlands facility acquired alongside Vredestein – open on 7 April.

Zietlow thanks Goodyear for help during record-breaking Dakar to Moscow trip

Three days, four hours and 54 minutes – this is the time Rainer Zietlow and his team took to drive their Goodyear-shod Volkswagen Amarok V6 TDI from Dakar to Moscow. Zietlow, together with Russian blogger Peter Bakanov and journalist Georgy Gloube, arrived in the Russian capital shortly before 10am on 25 April, having passed through ten countries as they covered 7,995 kilometres (4968 miles) in record time.

Goodyear introduces high load TreadMax trailer tyres

Increased permissible weights for commercial vehicles in Europe is driving demand for high load truck tyres, and in response Goodyear has launched new mould cure retread High Load (HL) trailer tyres. The new retreads are the TreadMax KMAX T HL and TreadMax SP246 HL, both in size 385/65R22.5.

Working hand-in-hand: Obo Tyres anticipates synergies with Magna Tyres Group

While spent revellers slept or nursed New Year’s hangovers and the well-meaning scribbled out resolutions they’d struggle to keep for a week, let alone a year, on 1 January Obo Tyres began something more significant. The first day of 2017 was also the Dutch retreader’s first as member of the Magna Tyres Group. The acquisition of Obo was announced shortly before the festive season got under way, and the new arrangement enables Magna, a specialist in the field of new off-highway and truck tyres, to offer its range as a full lifecycle portfolio. The benefit to Obo Tyres is measurable in terms of access to new markets, improved casing supply and the opportunity to develop new and qualitatively superior products.

National Tyres and Autocare announces winner of 2016 Ghostbusters promotion

National Tyres and Autocare’s 2016 promotion in conjunction with summer blockbuster, Ghostbusters, led to a marked increase in overall customer engagement and response, the garage chain stated. The campaign included radio, national press, and digital advertising, with fans of the franchise given the chance to visit the New York City locations featured in the film when purchasing any two tyres.

Falken tyres are being supplied as original equipment to the latest Volkswagen Touran. The Falken Ziex ZE914A Ecorun will be fitted on the Touran in size 205/60 R16 96V XL.

Alliance coming to Europe as Yokohama’s second car tyre brand

According to one Japanese publication, Yokohama Rubber will launch a second car tyre line in Europe this year under the Alliance brand name. The Nikkei Asian Review reports that the Alliance-branded passenger car tyres will be manufactured in Japan and that European retailers – it names the UK, France, Germany and Spain as four target markets – may have stocks of the tyres by May 2017.

Prometeon partners with Iveco Defence Vehicles

Prometeon Tyre Group – the new name for Pirelli’s recentlly separated Truck, Bus, Agro and OTR tyres business – has signed a commercial agreement with Iveco Defence Vehicles, which calls for a partnership for the development and supply of tyres for new generation defence vehicles. The news is a big step forward for Prometoen as it shows the business’s willingness and ability to work at an international OE level.

Hamilton wins Chinese grand prix with lap 4 seconds faster than 2016

Lewis Hamilton’s victory on a drying track in Shanghai was garnished with a fastest lap four seconds quicker than in the 2016 race, set on the Pirelli P Zero Yellow soft compound tyre. The exclusive tyre manufacturer has promised a leap in speed equating to such improvements in lap times this season as a result of both the latest specification cars and the manufacturer’s new, larger tyres.
