Prometeon COO talks with Tyres & Accessories

As we have all heard by now, following the high profile acquisition of Pirelli by ChemChina (whose Chinese tyre manufacturing plants include respected truck and car tyre manufacturer Aeolus and well-known OTR tyremaker, Torch) what we used to refer to simply as Pirelli has split itself in two. The part focusing on car and other consumer-orientated high-performance products retains the Pirelli name, while the remaining parts of the business (which were previously known as Pirelli Industrial) are in the process of being merged with their Chinese opposite numbers, subject to approval by the relevant authorities, and folded into a new entity – Prometeon Tyre Group. Autopromotec was Prometeon’s first public outing, so Tyres & Accessories interviewed chief operating officer (COO), Murilo Fonseca, during the recent Autopromotec exhibition in Bologna to find out more about the strategy behind the moves.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres sold to Liberty Hall Capital Partners for US$135 million

Liberty Hall Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused exclusively on investments in businesses serving the global aerospace and defence industry, has acquired Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Ltd. in a transaction valued at US$135 million. Dunlop Aircraft Tyres represents Liberty Hall’s first portfolio company focused on providing aftermarket products and services to the global aerospace and defence industry. A number of tyre makers had previously been linked with the sale of Dunlop Aircraft Tyres.

Mitas tyres exploring frozen Lake Baikal 

Mitas in partnership with Russian agricultural equipment company, Rostselmash, organized an initiative aimed at raising awareness of the unique ecosystem of Lake Baikal in Russia. In March 2017, in collaboration with National Geographic Magazine, a photo and video session was held at the frozen Baikal Lake. The extreme conditions of -25 °C demanded top of the range equipment such as Versatile 2375 tractor with a double mounting of Mitas 520/85R42 AC85 tyres.

Avon Tyres extends UK’s longest-standing circuit sponsorship

Castle Combe Circuit can be considered Avon Tyres’ local race track, being located just 11 miles away from the company’s headquarters in Melksham. An Avon presence at the circuit is therefore something you’d expect, and in future this will be even more pronounced. Avon Tyres says it is increasing its association with Castle Combe; in practice, this means there more visible branding, banners and flags, and the fitment of Avon tyres to all suitable track support vehicles. And as of this month, Avon branding will also feature on a second footbridge across the circuit between Quarry and the Esses.

Motorrad: No major weaknesses in test of six touring tyres

We’re used to seeing Continental products winning or securing a podium place in car tyre tests, and in the 12/2017 issue of Motorrad magazine, the tyre maker has also cleaned up in a test of motorcycle tyres. The German publication declared the Road Attack 3 the victor in its comparative evaluation of six size 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 180/55 ZR17 (rear) touring tyres.

All UK ambulance services fit Michelin tyres as ‘1st choice’

Each of the UK’s public sector ambulance services fits Michelin tyres on a first-choice policy. The 10 services in England have signed a first-choice policy, alongside those of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, each agreed under the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) Supply and Fit Tyres framework. Michelin states that its products provide “long lasting performance and maximum safety,” while “helping to deliver better value for the taxpayer.”

Pirelli to supply 3,000 P Zero tyres to 100+ cars in Blancpain Endurance at Silverstone

Pirelli will bring around 3,000 P Zero tyres to Silverstoe for the second round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. The P Zero DHD will be fitted to the entire Blancpain GT grid, provisionally of 55 cars, while the DH slick will be supplied to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. With rain a possibility, Pirelli will also bring its WH tyre for all categories.
