Groupe Massa becomes Infinity Tyres’ French distributor

Infinity Tyres has signed a distribution deal with Groupe Massa in France. The group operates through several subsidiary companies focusing on retail, logistics, retreading and wholesale, and the brand will be distributed through the Massa Pneus retail network and the business-to-business Imagine Car operation, which it says is the largest wholesaler on the French market.

Hankook survey shows strong US interest in eco-tyres

According to the results of Hankook Tire America’s “Spring Gauge Index”, 61 per cent of drivers in the US would be interested in buying eco-friendly tyres. The main reason for making such a purchase is the potential fuel savings they’d deliver; Hankook’s study shows that 68 per cent of drivers who’d buy eco tyres gave this reason as their motivating factor.

Magna Tyres becomes preferred supplier to Terex Cranes

Dutch tyre firm Magna Tyres has announced that it is now an official preferred supplier to Terex Cranes. Such is the scope of the deal, all cranes produced by Terex at its Zweibücken, Germany and Montceau les Mines, France production lines are equipped with Magna Tyres as standard.

The deal may only have been announced now, but the cooperation between the two companies has been going for a few years already. Nevertheless the formal long term agreement was signed in January 2012.

Nürburgring EV record broken on Nokian tyres

A new lap record has been set at the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit – and Nokian Tyres is proud of the role its products played. The Electric RaceAbout (E-RA) vehicle, built by the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and fitted with Nokian Z G2 tyres, zipped around the Nordschleife in 8:42.72, setting a lap record for road legal electric cars. The E-RA averaged more than 142 km/h during its run and cut more than a minute from the previous record.

Bridgestone fits Ecopia tyres to Nissan GreenSource Team in e-Miglia rally

The first 100 per cent electric car, Nissan’s Leaf signed Bridgestone to provide its Ecopia EP150 tyres as original equipment earlier in the year. Now the tyre manufacturer has helped to cement its relationship with the 2011 European Car of the Year with fitment on the Leaf of Nissan GreenSource Team Holland in the e-Miglia rally across the Alps on 5 August.

Auto Express recommends summer and winter tyres to boost car value

UK car magazine Auto Express has suggested that fitting high-quality tyres can help to improve the value of readers’ cars, suggesting three tyres for summer and winter. The magazine awarded the Continental SportContact 3 top summer tyre, and the Goodyear UltraGrip 7+ was victorious in the cold weather tyre category. Issue 1,169 of the magazine, currently on shelves, also recommended the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric in the former category, and Conti’s WinterContact TS830 and Dunlop’s SP WinterSport 3D as cold weather alternatives. The summer tyres were tested on 18" and the cold weather products on 16" fitments.

Infinity Tyres sponsors the first race of 2011 at York Racecourse

Infinity Tyres, part of the Al Dobowi Group recently sponsored the first event of the 2011 horseracing season at York racecourse in a meet which was long awaited by racing professionals and fans. This sponsorship was conducted in conjunction with Bond International, distributor of the brand in the UK and it is reported forms part of two firms’ strategy to “to get closer to the customer”, as Reg Bond, owner and managing director of Bond International, stated. “To promote a brand, you must go to the consumer and a tyre means little to a consumer, what grabs him, is something special, and this is special.”

Highways Agency becomes TyreSafe full member

UK tyre safety campaign group TyreSafe has announced that the Highways Agency has become a full member, following its endorsement of last October’s tyre safety month campaign. By becoming a full member, the Highways Agency will be represented at the group’s regular board meetings, helping to improve dialogue and collaboration between the organisations, says TyreSafe. Additionally, it will become involved in a number of tyre safety related activities throughout the year.

Sepang sees three riders faster than record on Bridgestone MotoGP tyres

Bridgestone was at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia between 22 and 24 February, 2011 to supply riders at MotoGP’s second pre-season tests with one front and one rear test-specification slick tyre, in addition to normal allocation of two compounds each of front (hard and extra-hard) and rear (medium and hard) slicks. After three dry and hot days of running, with the track temperature reaching a high of 57 degrees Celsius, the fastest times on each day were set in the cooler morning or late afternoon runs. The third and final day of the test was the fastest overall, with the leading Repsol Honda duo of Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa both lapping the 5.5km circuit in under two minutes. The top three riders also each lapped quicker than the official circuit best lap of 2m 00.518s, set by Valentino Rossi in 2009.

Kinergy Eco ‘a new era’ in tyres for Hankook

A new passenger car tyre range released by Hankook Tire in Europe is one the manufacturer says heralds a “new era in the tyre segment.” The range is called Kinergy Eco and takes its name from kinetic energy, or energy of motion – a clear nod to the tyre’s focus on reducing rolling resistance. Hankook states the Kinergy Eco “combines state-of-the-art Hankook tyre technology in the areas of safety, handling, and comfort with the environmental consciousness that is becoming an increasingly important criterion for today’s vehicles.”

2010 a Record Year for Infinity Tyres

Infinity Tyres Europe reports that 2010 was the brand’s biggest ever sales year both in terms of unit sales and turnover. Company representatives told Tyres & Accessories that there were a number of prevailing factors contributing to the achievement including: a prominent presence in Hall 3 at Reifen 2010; a new, clear brand concept “Welcome to Infinity World”; heavy multi-lingual national trade press advertising campaign; focus on key patterns, key sizes and competitive pricing.

Tyres Become ‘Weapon’ in Cyprus Conflict

The sovereignty of Cyprus is a long standing source of tension between Greece and Turkey, and it now appears this territorial stand-off extends even as far as the tyre world. Greece’s Ministry of National Defence has denied reports published in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus that vehicles used by armed forces in the Greek controlled Republic of Cyprus, which covers 59 per cent of the island’s land area, are fitted with tyres manufactured in Turkey – an unthinkable situation in the context of the territorial dispute.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Apprentice Highly Recommended at EEF Awards

On November 11 the EEF announced the Midlands region winners in its 2010 Future Manufacturing Awards, and Dunlop Aircraft Tyres’ apprentice Adam Cox was honoured for the quality of his work. At a ceremony held in the Warwickshire town of Gaydon, Cox was named runner-up in the Outstanding Achievement by a Final Year Apprentice Award for his work in the design of aircraft tyres for some of the world’s newest civil and military aeroplanes.

Infinity Tyres Raises Record Sum for BEN at NTDA Dinner

The recent NTDA annual dinner held in Manchester saw Infinity Tyres donate two return air tickets from London to Dubai (home of the Al Dobowi Group– owners of the Infinity brand). The tickets were auctioned by Peter Gaster, former NTDA chairman and raised £1600 for the BEN charity, which is reportedly a record for the event.
