Kinergy Eco ‘a new era’ in tyres for Hankook

A new passenger car tyre range released by Hankook Tire in Europe is one the manufacturer says heralds a “new era in the tyre segment.” The range is called Kinergy Eco and takes its name from kinetic energy, or energy of motion – a clear nod to the tyre’s focus on reducing rolling resistance. Hankook states the Kinergy Eco “combines state-of-the-art Hankook tyre technology in the areas of safety, handling, and comfort with the environmental consciousness that is becoming an increasingly important criterion for today’s vehicles.”

2010 a Record Year for Infinity Tyres

Infinity Tyres Europe reports that 2010 was the brand’s biggest ever sales year both in terms of unit sales and turnover. Company representatives told Tyres & Accessories that there were a number of prevailing factors contributing to the achievement including: a prominent presence in Hall 3 at Reifen 2010; a new, clear brand concept “Welcome to Infinity World”; heavy multi-lingual national trade press advertising campaign; focus on key patterns, key sizes and competitive pricing.

Tyres Become ‘Weapon’ in Cyprus Conflict

The sovereignty of Cyprus is a long standing source of tension between Greece and Turkey, and it now appears this territorial stand-off extends even as far as the tyre world. Greece’s Ministry of National Defence has denied reports published in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus that vehicles used by armed forces in the Greek controlled Republic of Cyprus, which covers 59 per cent of the island’s land area, are fitted with tyres manufactured in Turkey – an unthinkable situation in the context of the territorial dispute.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Apprentice Highly Recommended at EEF Awards

On November 11 the EEF announced the Midlands region winners in its 2010 Future Manufacturing Awards, and Dunlop Aircraft Tyres’ apprentice Adam Cox was honoured for the quality of his work. At a ceremony held in the Warwickshire town of Gaydon, Cox was named runner-up in the Outstanding Achievement by a Final Year Apprentice Award for his work in the design of aircraft tyres for some of the world’s newest civil and military aeroplanes.

Infinity Tyres Raises Record Sum for BEN at NTDA Dinner

The recent NTDA annual dinner held in Manchester saw Infinity Tyres donate two return air tickets from London to Dubai (home of the Al Dobowi Group– owners of the Infinity brand). The tickets were auctioned by Peter Gaster, former NTDA chairman and raised £1600 for the BEN charity, which is reportedly a record for the event.

Winter Tyres to Become Mandatory in Germany

Germany’s provincial transport ministers have decided upon the introduction of legislation making the use of winter tyres compulsory. The national transport minister, Peter Ramsauer, reports that appropriate changes to Germany’s Highway Code are expected to be implemented by in parliament “as soon as possible.”

Ruia Company Monotona Tyres Becomes Falcon Tyres Subsidiary

India’s Monotona Tyres Ltd has become a subsidiary of fellow Ruia Group company Falcon Tyres Ltd. This arrangement allows Monotona to take advantage of the technical assistance agreement Falcon has operated with Japan’s Sumitomo Rubber Industries since 2007 and will lead to its products being marketed in the Indian replacement market under the Dunlop brand name.

Survey Shows More UK Dealers Recommend Bridgestone 4×4 Tyres

Research conducted by Encircle Marketing between April 2009 and February 2010 has revealed dealers recommend Bridgestone 4×4 tyres almost twice as often as the next most recommended brand. The survey showed that Bridgestone’s 4×4 tyres are recommended 18 per cent of the time, far ahead of the nearest competitor at 10.4 per cent. Dealer recommendation – widely accepted to be a key factor influencing customer purchase choice – was also found to be stronger for premium brands, with a 60 per cent recommendation rate versus budget brands.

Pirelli Motorcycle Tyres Received More Recommendations than Reported

Pirelli’s motorcycle tyres had a better 2009 in terms of proportional brand recommendations for the Total Market than had been previously reported by Encircle Marketing. Encircle market analyst Jason Cunningham got in touch with Tyrepress.com to correct an error, which saw Pirelli ranked lowest for the percentage change in brand recommendations in the second half of 2009 compared to the first half. In fact, the data provided showed the brands ranked in inverse order to what had been shown by Encircle’s research. “I apologise for the error [on the slide entitled ‘% pt change overtime in Total Market brand recommendations’],” Cunningham said. “Pirelli’s performance in particular in 2009 was very impressive.” The slide also showed Continental and Maxxis losing ground in Total Market brand recommendations, when in fact they had made significant progress in 2009.

Japanese Motorists “Highly Satisfied” with Eco-Tyres’ Green Credentials

Japanese motorists that drive cars fitted with ‘fuel-efficient’ replacement market tyres have indicated in the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2009 Japan Replacement Tire Customer Satisfaction Index Study that they are “highly satisfied” with the contribution their tyres make to fuel economy. In Japan, fuel-efficient tyres have in recent times emerged as a major replacement market product category in addition to the traditional categories of sport, comfort/luxury and standard tyres.

Bush Tyres Opens Second Retail Centre in Spalding

Tyre retail group BA Bush & Son and its wholesale arm B.A.B. Distribution has acquired the former Enterprise Tyres in Spalding. The move means that the family-owned business – which is a member of Grouptyre – now operates from two prime sites in the town, while it has increased its network of retail depots throughout Lincolnshire, Humberside and East Yorkshire to 16.

Chris Mullins Tyres Exceeds First Year Expectations, Investigates Second Gloucester Outlet

Gloucester tyre centre, Chris Mullins Tyres has reported a successful first year in business, exceeding its sales targets by more than 50 per cent according to the company. The centre, located on the city’s Bristol Road, began trading last January.
Specialising in selling and fitting car, van and motorcycle tyres to the general public and local businesses, a statement from the centre says it achieved 155 per cent of its first year’s trading target by selling more than 13,000 tyres and associated services such as wheel alignment. The statement added that it achieved a number of record trading days during the recent cold snap, as motorists replaced or upgraded their tyres to specialist snow products.

Eco-Friendly Oil for Avon Tyres in 2010

Avon Tyres has announced that it will be utilising what it terms “eco-friendly” or “clean oil” in its tyres from 2010. According to the manufacturer, the new tyres will be “eco-friendly with no effect on grip and indeed, in the case of some high-performance range tyres, will actually have increased levels of grip.”

TyreSafe Achieves International Recognition with Road Safety Award

TyreSafe has been internationally recognised for its ongoing contribution to motoring security. Friday’s steering committee meeting was punctuated by the lunchtime presentation of the Prince Michael International Safety Award: Recognising achievement and innovations which will improve road safety. Vredestein managing director and chairman of TyreSafe, Stuart Jackson declared himself, on behalf of the whole organisation, “ecstatic about the award”, saying that it represents an “accreditation of what we believe in”, as an organisation that cuts across company divisions.

With tyre manufactures increasing their interest in marketing their tyres through drifting as the sport grows in popularity, the Infinity brand is no exception. In Europe, the Moskou Drift Team has been using the company’s INF-050, supplied by Eurotyre.
