Trelleborg to launch YourTire online personalisation service for tyres

At Agritechnica 2017, Trelleborg will unveil YourTire, a new online service that allows customers to personalise their Trelleborg radial tractor tyres. Using the YourTire online configurator tool, customers can add their name or logo to new tyres, bringing a new level of personalisation to farm machinery.

Smart Tyre Concept: SRI’s vision of greener, more intelligent future tyres

The Tokyo Motor Show 2017 is currently taking place, and visitors to the biennial event are amongst the first to see Sumitomo Rubber Industries’ new Smart Tyre Concept from Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd (SRI). The aim of this new concept, shares the tyre maker, is to “aid in the development of tyres that provide balanced safety and environmental performance at higher levels than ever before.” The launch will be followed by the commercial introduction of tyres containing technologies seen in the Smart Tyre Concept, as well as further concept products, over the coming decade.

Wolfgang Meier named CEO of Pirelli Tyres Romania

A new chief executive officer has been appointed at Pirelli tyres Romania. Wolfgang Meier has taken on this role, replacing Giuliano Menassi, who become R&D senior vice-president within the Pirelli Group. Meier retains his role of head of human resources for Pirelli’s business in Germany.

TyreSafe: Think of the cost of part-worn tyres, not the price

Motorists shouldn’t need to be reminded of this, but it seems they do – safety should be the primary concern when replacing tyres. This is the message from TyreSafe this Tyre Safety Month, and the organisation emphasises that although part-worn tyres may appear to be a cheaper option, numerous studies and investigations it and Trading Standards have carried out give reason to question the roadworthiness of these products. In the most recent actions, 93 per cent of part-worns inspected were sold illegally, and more than have possessed safety-critical faults.

80% of drivers prefer to buy tyres face-to-face rather than online

New research by the National Tyre Distributor’s Association (NTDA) has found that 80 per cent of motorists would rather buy tyres in person from a tyre technician, instead of purchasing online.

The survey was commissioned as part of the NTDA’s policy document Raising Standards and Improving Safety in the UK Tyre Industry. Further research from the survey also found that 85 per cent of motorists trust their tyre retailer and that 40 per cent purchase a tyre based on advice from a technician.

ELMS 2017: G-Drive Racing & JMW Motorsport take titles on Dunlop tyres

Dunlop has congratulated G-Drive Racing after the latter was named European Le Mans Series (ELMS) champion for this year after the final round of the series this past weekend. The tyre maker comments that G-Drive Racing and the other Dunlop-shod teams delivered strong performance in the open-tyre LMP2 class, with all six rounds of the series won by a car racing on Dunlop tyres. Praise was also showered upon JMW Motorsport, the team crowned champion of the all-Dunlop GTE class.

Ian Brown Tyres in Michelin audit success

Independent dealership Ian Brown Tyres has passed the Michelin Auto Professional programme’s rigorous audit for the sixth time in a row, becoming one of the longest-serving Michelin Certified Centres in the UK.

The North Yorkshire dealership achieved a 94 per cent pass rate in its 2017 audit, and can continue to display the coveted Michelin Certified Centre signage – which features the iconic Michelin Man – for another two years; highlighting the dealership’s high standards of customer service.

100,000+ MOTs failed due to tyres in 2016

The Daily Telegraph Motoring column, Honest John, has recently produced an article detailing the cars with the greatest MOT failure rates in the UK, along with the regions with vehicles most likely to fail the test. Analysis of more than 400m MOT records from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) by consumer website HonestJohn.co.uk shows that one in six cars fails its first test, with brakes, lighting and tyres among the most-common reasons.

Kirkby Tyres’ 80,000sqft central distribution centre expansion nears completion

Kirkby Tyres’ 2017 expansion programme will see its first warehouse completed in December 2017, with the 80,000sqft of new floor space, across nine additional new warehouses, fully operational by March 2018. In total, Kirkby will fit in 2,500 additional tyre racking units, enabling 8.9m high tyre storage facilities. The wholesaler will also add 10 more loading bays to its operation. In order to realise this expansion, Kirkby purchased three acres of land adjacent to its Speke headquarters, allowing it to increase its stock capacity and further improve its logistical operations, and increasing its total footprint to approximately nine acres. Kirkby added that the expansion would require more local personnel to be employed, and enable the company to offer customers a wider range of brands, sizes and applications.

Oak Tyres steps up operations with headquarters development

Setting foot inside the entrance of Oak Tyres’ new Newton-le-Willows headquarters, it is clear that the company has made a conscious decision to present a stride forwards in the professionalism of its operations. Renovations to the previously semi-derelict three floor building were taken on as a special project headed by the company’s Gary Cross around 18 months ago; “almost finished” when Tyres & Accessories visited, a strong, corporate aesthetic has been employed, with colours and imagery from the Oak Group’s own Davanti tyre brand, as well as exclusively distributed lines, such as Landsail, added to Oak’s red and greyscale CI.

Porsche approves Bridgestone tyres for Cayenne

Bridgestone has been selected by Porsche to be a tyre supplier for the third generation Porsche Cayenne. The Dueler H/P Sport which is being fitted to the Cayenne in the 19-inch front 255/55 ZR19 and rear 275/50 ZR19 sizes and the 20-inch front 275/45 ZR20 and rear 305/40 ZR20 sizes, was fully developed at the Bridgestone European Technical Centre in Rome. The tyres will be produced at the Bridgestone plant in Poznan, Poland and will bear the marking ‘N0’ on the sidewall to denote their original equipment status.
