Directa Plus awarded patent for G+ elastomeric composition for tyres

Directa Plus plc, a producer and supplier of graphene-based products for use in consumer and industrial markets, announces that the Ufficio Brevetti e Marchi (Italian Patent and Trademark Office) has granted the Company a patent for the product and application of its new graphene-based solution for enhancing the performance of tyres. Specifically, the patent covers Directa Plus’ ‘elastomeric composition comprising graphene and tyre components comprising said composition’.

Carnegie Fuels recommends Michelin’s X Works rugged tyre range following trial

Scottish fuel firm Carnegie Fuels typically delivers to farms, industrial areas and residential properties that can often only be accessed on rocky off-road terrain – putting the 6x2 rigid tanker fleet’s fitments at an increased risk of stone cuts and ingress.

Following a visit from one of Michelin’s Technical Managers, Dan Lamb, last summer, owner Kevin Carnegie agreed to trial sets of Michelin X Works D drive axle tyres and XZY3 steer and tag axle fitments on two of his 13 delivery vehicles.

Latest Kumho eco tyre leads 2018 UK car tyre range

Kumho has introduced its latest eco tyre, the Ecowing ES31, to the UK market, joining its high performance Ecsta range. The new tyre will gradually replace the established KH27, and is available initially in a total of 38 14 to 17 inch sizes, almost 70 percent of which carry a B label grade for rolling resistance. The sizes including all the key fitments for such best-selling small and medium-sized hatchbacks and saloons as the VW Polo and Golf, Fiat 500, Audi A1, A2, A3 and A4, BMW 1 and 2 Series, Peugeot 208 and Renault Clio.

WTCC becomes WTCR – Yokohama remains tyre supplier

From this year, the World Touring Car Championship will be run according to TCR technical regulations, and has been renamed WTCR – the FIA World Touring Car Cup. Yokohama Advan racing tyres have been adoped as control tyre for the WTCR races to be run in 2018–19. Under the two-year contract, Yokohama Rubber will provide its Advan A005 dry-surface tyre and Advan A006 wet-surface tyre; both will be supplied in size 250/660R18.

Car tyre prices recover in 2017, but still catching up

A year after we predicted that car tyre prices would rise during 2017 as part of last year’s car tyre feature, the latest data provided by tyre market research specialists Encircle Marketing shows that prices are indeed recovering. However, while tyre prices recovered to 2016 levels during 2017, there is still some way to go before average prices reach 2015 levels. Encircle’s latest figures examine the shape of the traditional tyre retail market and the online tyre market.

Scottish farmer heading for 5,000 hours on Michelin AgriBib Row Crop tyres

A narrow footprint tyre is a good choice when working with potato crops, observes Michelin, and this is an opinion supported by Scotland’s James D Reid & Partners. Michelin shares that the Montrose-based potato farmer changed its tyre strategy four years ago and is now reaping the benefits, being on track to achieve 5,000 hours from its original Michelin AgriBib Row Crop tyres.

Hankook tyres OE on Citroën C3 Aircross

The C3 Aircross, a distinctive-looking compact SUV that Citroën brought to market late last year, is now available with Hankook tyres as original equipment. Hankook Tire shares that its Kinergy 4S all-season tyre has been approved for the C3 Aircross in sizes 195/60 R16 89H, 205/60 R16 92H and 215/50 R17 91H, and the Ventus Prime³ summer tyre in size 205/60 R16 92H.

Hankook tyres for electrified bus fleet

Chinese bus fleet operator Guangzhou Jumbo Bus Co Ltd. intends to convert its entire fleet of LNG-powered buses to electric propulsion over the coming three years, and as it does so will exclusively shod its fleet with Hankook tyres. Jumbo Bus, which operates six city bus companies and a total of 4,500 buses, signed a memorandum of understanding with Hankook Tire this month covering the supply of tyres specifically developed for electric buses.
