Linglong to become first Chinese global Top 10 car tyre manufacturer by 2019 – analyst

New research by London based independent research company Astutus Research suggests that a domestic Chinese company could be about to join the top 10 global manufacturers of passenger car and light truck (PCLT) tyres. Linglong Tyre, currently ranked 12th globally in the segment by unit sales, is forecast to take tenth place by 2019, replacing South Korea’s Kumho Tyre. The move would make the manufacturer the first from China to enter the PCLT top 10.

Work begins on Nokian Tyres’ technology centre in Spain

Festivities to celebrate the occasion were held at the site in Santa Cruz de la Zarza. Nokian Tyres’ SnapSkan service expands internationally

The SnapSkan digital tread service, deployed by tyre manufacturer Nokian Tyres in cooperation with its tyre retail and car service chain Vianor, is launching five new checking points in the Nordic countries. A total of four new SnapSkan service points will be opened in parking garages in various locations across Finland. SnapSkan is also going international with the opening of a new service point in Oslo, Norway. This is the first SnapSkan service point outside of Finland.

Tax bill: Nokian Tyres wins appeal

A decision has been made on the 89.2 million euros that Nokian Tyres was ordered to pay in additional taxes and punitive tax increases for the 2007 to 2010 tax years. Finland’s Administrative Court has entirely overturned the tax reassessment decisions made by the country’s Board of Adjustment and has additionally ordered the Tax Administration to pay Nokian Tyres 40,000 euros in legal costs.

Bridgestone wins Stagecoach bus tyre contract

Bridgestone UK has secured the company’s biggest ever commercial fleet partnership across Europe, after putting pen to paper on a five-year agreement with Stagecoach. ‘No discussion at Federation level’ of UK EPR scheme for used tyres: TRA

The Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) has responded to an assertion by the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) that “some discussions seem to have recently kicked-off in the UK to study the feasibility of introducing an EPR [extended producer responsibility] regime” following an enquiry by Tyres & Accessories. The TRA states that there have been “no discussions at Federation level” looking into a similar collective scheme approved by national authorities to that implemented by 23 European countries. It adds that it will seek clarification from the UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs. The 2 May statement accompanied an ETRMA report on the collection and treatment of tyres in European markets.

94 per cent of all used tyres collected and treated in 2016: ETRMA

A consolidated report on used tyres arising in Europe in 2016 shows 94 per cent were collected and treated. In compiling the data, the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA), consolidated used tyre (UT) management data for 2016 covering 32 countries, including the EU28, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, and Turkey.
