Electric Audi e-tron SUV to run on Bridgestone tyres as original equipment

Audi has selected Bridgestone as its tyre supplier for the release of its first all-electric SUV, the Audi e-tron. The companies agreed a list of characteristics required to highlight the specifications of the new model. The e-tron boasts fast acceleration, high comfort, very low noise, and high levels of safety without dropping performance. Bridgestone will supply six different tyres sized between 19 and 21 inches, four summer and two winter tyres, as original equipment. The manufacturer has emphasised the original equipment channel recently, achieving “more than 120 OE fitments” in EMEA during 2018, a result it labelled its best ever.

Expeditions7 crosses Greenland glacier on Nokian Hakkapeliitta tyres

Icelandic-American expedition team Expeditions7 when drove from the southern coast of Greenland to the land’s northernmost spot and back. One of the team’s special vehicles built by Arctic Trucks was equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 44 tyres, which are tailored what the Finnish tyre maker calls “real winter”. On the slowest legs of the journey, the vehicles could only manage 10 kilometres per hour and the lowest recorded temperatures were -40 degrees Celsius!

ATG showcases high performance flotation, high flexion tyres at LAMMA 2019

Alliance Tire Group (ATG) is showcasing the brand’s agricultural expertise at LAMMA, the UK’s largest agricultural and machinery show (8-9 January 2019, Birmingham NEC). It is displaying its row crop Agriflex 363 IF and the Agriflex 372 VF for tractors, the Alliance 389VF, Alliance 885 and Alliance 882 Agri-Transport radial flotation tyres for implements, and the versatile Multiuse 550. The Alliance agricultural tyre range is exclusively distributed in the UK and Ireland by Kirkby Tyres.

Michelin becomes Ginetta Junior Championship title sponsor in 5-year deal

Michelin is to become the title sponsor for the 2019 Ginetta Junior Championship as part of a five-year extension to the decade-long partnership between the tyre manufacturer and Ginetta. Michelin will remain the sole tyre supplier for all five of Ginetta’s domestic single marque championships until the end of 2023 under the latest deal. Michelin has been the title sponsor of the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup since its inception in 2008.

Kesoram to spin off Birla Tyres

On 4 December Kesoram Industries Ltd (part of the BK Birla Group of Companies) announced its intention to demerge its Birla Tyres Ltd business. As a result, Birla Tyres will become a listed company with its own shareholders. The demerger is scheduled for 1 January 2019.

DVSA targets older truck tyres in new crackdown

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has begun a crackdown on tyres that are more than 10 years old. As part of Road Safety Week, the DVSA has updated its Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, to ensure large vehicles remain safe to drive by limiting the use of old tyres.

Doublestar car tyres on-sale in Carrefour Spain

Doublestar Tyres, the new majority shareholder of Kumho, recently announced that its tyres are on-sale alongside premium brands at Carrefour supermarkets in Spain.

According to Doublestar, which compared Carrefour founded in 1959 to Walmart in the USA, the supermarket chain is Europe’s favourite. Having pioneered the so-called hypermarket approach in Europe Carrefour has developed into the largest retailer in Europe and the second largest international retail chain group in the world, with business scope covering more than 40 countries and regions. Carrefour owns 17 large chain stores in Spain, which covers the Iberian area and radiates to the whole pan-European region. With an annual population of 400 million, Carrefour is a perfect channel for product sales and a perfect platform for brand exposure.

Suretrac embedding RFID in truck tyres

The Suretrac brand, which is manufactured in China by Beijing-based Staridge Inc, reports that it is now embedding radio frequency identification (RFID) chips inside commercial truck tyres and retreads, enabling fleets to better manage their tyre assets throughout the full life cycle.

Giti tyres on Lotus Cup Racers at 2018 Macau Grand Prix

The event was one of six during the Grand Prix weekend, which brings racers and spectators from all around the world to the exciting street-circuit motorsports events around the city and ocean side of the historic city of Macau.

Nokian Tyres building off-highway tyre R&D centre

According to Nokian Tyres, global demand for premium heavy tyres is rising and new, larger tyres for bulkier machinery need to be developed. To meet this demand, the tyre maker’s Nokian Heavy Tyres unit will erect a new research and development centre in Nokia, Finland next year.

Michelin becomes IndiGo tyre partner

IndiGo, the largest airline in India in terms of fleet size and passengers carried, has appointed Michelin tyre partner for its entire fleet. Michelin Aircraft Tyre will supply tyres from its Michelin Air range, primarily the Michelin Air X radial, for IndiGo’s Airbus A320 and ATR 72-600 aircraft – a current total of 189 planes.
