New Dunlop 17.5, 19.5-inch truck tyres launched

Dunlop has launched a range of 20 new truck tyres in 17.5” and 19.5” sizes. The SP346 steer and the SP446 drive tyres are available in 10 variations respectively, and are designed to provide high mileage and durability alongside strong traction. Dunlop’s latest commercial vehicle range is also manufactured to provide suitable fitments for rapidly developing electric and hybrid vehicles.

National Tyres and Autocare approved to award industry accreditation

National Tyres and Autocare, one of the largest independent fast fit tyre specialists in the UK are pleased to announce that they have been approved to deliver the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) in Light Vehicle Inspection. National’s ability to provide rigorous quality training and development was at the core of the approval granted by the Institute of the Motoring Industry (IMI).

Bigger tyres, less jobs: Goodyear announces bittersweet investment for Germany

Goodyear is investing 106 million euros (£90.6 million) to modernise two of its tyre plants in Germany. The investment in the Hanau and Fulda facilities will increase their capacities to produce tyres for 17-inch and larger rim diameters; Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany intends to add an extra 2.5 million units to its annual capacity in this segment. But it isn’t all good news – the company reports that these modernisation measures will lead to the loss of approximately 1,100 jobs.

Sportauto test: Most tyres fail to enthuse

Yesterday we reported the results of the Auto Motor und Sport summer 2019 tyre test and noted that while no tyre received the publication’s highest rating, most gained its recommendation. It’s a different story at sister title Sportauto – its test of eight tyres yielded a ‘highly recommended’ winner, but six of the candidates only received a lukewarm endorsement.

First Michelin RoadBib tyres fitted in Scotland

Cockburnspath-based R&C Crichton has become the first farmer in Scotland to specify Michelin’s new RoadBib tyres – designed to provide high performance, longevity and traction on machines used intensively on the road. Jamie Crichton specified the new tyres for his high-spec JCB Fastrac 4220 after hearing positive reports from Henzell Enterprises in Northumberland, one of the contractors involved in pre-launch testing for Michelin.

Nokian Tyres announces 8 new Tractor King sizes

The regency of the Nokian Tractor King has reached a new dimension with the addition of eight new dimensions – these join the seven-size launch portfolio introduced last year. From July 2019, the following sizes, now available for order, will be ready for delivery: 500/65R28; 600/60R28; 540/65R30; 600/70R30; 620/75R30; 600/65R38; 650/85R38; 710/70R42.

Bridgestone supply ologic technology tyres to Seat Minimó electric concept car

Seat has chosen Bridgestone as its preferred tyre partner to equip its new Minimó electric concept car, presented at the Geneva Motor Show. Minimó sits on specially designed tyres that apply Bridgestone’s ologic technology. Anticipating the design lines of a tyre oriented towards micro-mobility and CASE (Connected Autonomous Share Electric) vehicles, the tyres were developed for the car brand at Bridgestone’s R&D Centre in Rome.

Sales of SUV tyres continue to drive growth in the UK 4x4 tyre replacement market, with UHP-orientated tyres growing even faster. According to the latest data provided by market analysts GfK, these trends have come while there have been no clear changes in the market’s brand segmentation, which suggests product mix and volume growth must be behind the improvement.

Win for Michelin, 6 ‘exemplary’ tyres in Auto Bild test

As expected, this year’s Auto Bild size 225/45 R17 summer tyre test delivered no nasty surprises. With more than half of the original field of 53 already eliminated in a preliminary round of wet and dry braking tests, the remaining 20 candidates all gave a good account of themselves. Six of their number were even declared ‘exemplary’ tyres.

The good, the better and the very good – Gute Fahrt tests 225/40 R18 tyres

During its years of performing comparative tyre tests, German car magazine Gute Fahrt has been confronted with the good, the bad and the ugly. But this time round things were a little different – in its latest evaluation of summer car tyres, all candidates put in a performance worthy of a rating of ‘good’ or better. This is the first occasion that no tyre has gained a lowlier rating in a Gute Fahrt test.
