Bridgestone supplying ‘solar car tyres’ to BWSC

Bridgestone Corporation will supply solar car tyres to 32 teams participating in the 2019 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC), for which Bridgestone is the naming rights sponsor. The narrow, wide diameter tyres utilise Bridgestone’s ‘Ecopia with ologic’ fuel-efficient tyre technology.

Giti extends Micheldever exclusive distribution of GT Radial, Runway tyres

Giti Tire has extended its exclusive distribution agreement with Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS) for its GT Radial and Runway brands for a further four years. The new deal, which runs until 2022, will continue to cover the passenger car, 4x4 and light truck tyre segments. Tyrepress understands that certain car and SUV sizes of Giti Tire's eponymous Giti brand will continue to be available via Micheldever, where no equivalent GT Radial-branded tyre is currently available. The brand was first added to Micheldever's inventory in 10 such sizes in 2018.

Magna Tyres Group shares that it has opened a sales office in the USA. Its premises in Fort Lauderdale, Florida opened on 1 September and is the company’s second office in North America. Magna Tyres Group has been present in the region since establishing a sales office in Canada at the start of this year.

Pirelli H:01 Proway promises better mileage, economy & safety

With the introduction of the Pirelli H:01 Proway line, Prometeon Tyre Group says it is offering tyres that provide “maximum efficiency in long-distance transportation” thanks to reduced rolling resistance and improved durability. Serbia to become PCLT tyre production hub

When Toyo recently announced its intention to build a new tyre plant in Serbia it consolidated the country’s position as the leading location for new passenger car and light truck (PCLT) tyre manufacturing capacity in Europe. Toyo’s proposal follows Linglong’s decision to build its new European plant in the country and Cooper Tire’s plan to double the size of its facility there. Based on analysis of all announced capacity actions by Astutus Research (plant opening and expansion net of closures and downsizing), the Czech Republic is a distant second in terms of planned capacity additions between 2018 and 2026.

Tyre monitoring: Agritechnica launch for Nokian Tyres Intuitu

Nokian Tyres says it has taken the first step towards digital, real-time tyre management with the launch of Nokian Tyres Intuitu. This new digital monitoring system combines sensor-equipped tyres with a mobile application that records the sensor data, keeping the user informed about vital tyre pressure and temperature. Intuitu will initially be available for agricultural and contracting tyres, however Nokian Tyres intends to extend the system to its entire commercial tyre range.

Two Falken tyres chosen for new Toyota Corolla

Falken is supplying original equipment tyres to the new Toyota Corolla, available since March 2019. The new vehicles will be fitted with the Ziex ZE914B Ecorun in sizes 225/40R18 92 W XL and 225/45R17 91W, and the Sincera SN832B tyre in size 205/55R16 91V. The tyres are manufactured at the SRI plant in Turkey and fitted at the Toyota plants in Castle Donington in the UK and Sarkaya in Turkey.

1 in 4 cars leave forecourts with MOT advisories that could pose danger in weeks

New data from Protyre reveals that more than one in four vehicles with a valid MOT leaves the forecourt with serious advisories that could result in a fine of up to £2,500 if not addressed in a matter of weeks. The analysis by the UK’s fastest growing supplier and fitter of tyres and automotive services with 150 nationwide garages highlights that this could apply to up to 9,550,000 vehicles on the road today, as there are an estimated 38.2 million registered vehicles in Britain according to the Department for Transport.
