Sailun Tyre has introduced a new six-year product guarantee on all of its Sailun and RoadX truck tyres. The guarantee is valid as of 1 November 2019. Janis Amolins, sales director, Sailun Group Europe, said the guarantee “underlines the confidence and belief we have in the quality, performance and durability of our tyres.”
Groundbreaking took place earlier this month for the China (Dongying) Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) Test Site project, a joint venture between FAW Group, Dongying City and Sailun Group. The ceremony was attended by more than 200 people, including Sailun chief executive officer Yuan Zhongxue.
The three days of drifting excitement that was the China Drifting Cup Grand Prix (DCGP) came to an end on 13 October, with the Sailun Drift Team crowned champion of the Singles, Drift-Chase and the Manufacturer’s Cup categories. Sailun Group says these results highlight the combined performance of the vehicles, drivers’ capabilities and the “fine-tuned product design” of the second-generation Sailun FG1 race tyre.
Spanish tyre distributor Grupo Soledad has entered into an agreement with Sailun Tyre that gives it exclusive distribution of the Sailun brand in Spain and Portugal. The distribution agreement was signed by the Sailun Group’s European management and José Pérez, commercial director of Grupo Soledad.
Sailun Group Co., Ltd. has issued a new timetable for the completion of its project to add capacity for larger rim passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyres at its Dongying factory in China. The self-funded investment to add 15 million units of capacity will now be implemented by December 2020 rather than this year, as originally planned. According to Sailun Group, the level of investment in the project and proposed usage of the funds remains the same.
Sailun Tyre has entered into its first major global sports partnership with the start of a new sponsorship agreement with Spanish football club Valencia CF. The tyre maker will serve as an official global partner and official tyre partner for the next three seasons, with the Sailun name displayed on players’ jerseys.
Andreas Wilmsmeier has joined Sailun as the company’s new business development manager for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Benelux. In this role, he reports directly to European sales director, Janis Amolins.
Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is to form a joint venture with Sailun Vietnam Co, Ltd to build a 2 million capacity truck and bus radial manufacturing plant. Subject to closing and government approvals, the facility will be located near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, at the site of Sailun Vietnam’s existing operations, which early in 2018 signed an offtake agreement to produce Roadmaster, Dean and Starfire brand tyres for Cooper. The new announcement represents the latest move in a series of cooperative moves between the two firms – Sailun Jinyu invested in joining Cooper in its GRT JV in September.
As of today, Sailun’s ticker symbol on the Shanghai Stock Exchange has changed from ‘Sailun Jinyu Group Co., Ltd.’ to ‘Sailun Group Co., Ltd.’. The tyre maker’s securities code remains 601058.
The vast majority of Sailun Jinyu Group shareholders have approved the adoption of a new company name and changes to the company’s articles of association. Votes held during an extraordinary meeting of shareholders on 12 October resulted in a 99.1 per cent turnout in favour of both measures. The tyre maker will thus adopt the name Sailun Group Co., Ltd.
At a meeting held yesterday, the Board of Directors of Sailun Jinyu Group Co. Ltd. approved a change of the company’s name to Sailun Group Co., Ltd.
In 2016, Cooper Tire & Rubber invested some US$93 million to acquire a 65 per cent shareholding in Qingdao Ge Rui Da Rubber Co., Ltd (GRT). The remaining 35 per cent share in the China-based truck and bus radial manufacturing operation was retained by Qingdao Yiyuan Investment Co., Ltd. (QYI), however QYI is now selling its stake in the business. Sailun Jinyu Group Co., Ltd. has signed a share transfer agreement with QYI to acquire its 35 per cent interest in GRT for RMB 220 million (£24.4 million, US$32.0 million), subject to government approval.
Under a new multi-year manufacturing offtake agreement, the Sailun tyre plant in Vietnam will produce truck and bus radial (TBR) tyres for Cooper Tire & Rubber. Tyres produced for Cooper in the Sailun Vietnam Co., Ltd. plant will be manufactured under the Roadmaster, Dean and Starfire brand names and be sold in global markets. Cooper says the offtake agreement gives it a “third global source of TBR tyre production to meet growing customer needs.”
Two of Sailun Jinyu International Europe’s tyre brands will now be distributed by wholesalers Viking Wholesaler Tyres and Bond International following a major strategic review of its UK distribution operations. The manufacturer pronounced itself “delighted to announce a number of enhancements and improvements” for its portfolio, which includes the Sailun, Jinyu, Blacklion, and Rovelo brands. The new strategy has become effective immediately, SJI Europe added.
