Cooper Tire to become 100% owner of Mexico JV tyre plant

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company intends to completely acquire its joint venture tyre manufacturing facility in Mexico. It currently holds a 58 per cent share in Corporación de Occidente S.A. de C.V. (COOCSA), but has entered into a definitive agreement with partner Trabajadores Democraticos de Occidente S.C. de R.L. de C.V. (TRADOC) to acquire its 42 per cent stake. On Friday, a majority of TRADOC members voted in favour of the agreement.

Murfitts Industries buys Sapphire Energy Recovery

Murfitts Industries has acquired the tyre collection business of Sapphire Energy Recovery, part of Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions company. Murfitts Industries reports that the company will “continue to invest and grow its end-of-life tyre recycling capabilities in the UK”.

Tyres4U buys Tyre and Tube Australia

In 15 October 2019 Tyres4U acquired Tyre and Tube Australia Pty Ltd (TTA). TTA is known as a leading specialty tyre and tube wholesaler in addition to being a substantial distributor of value tier passenger and truck tyres in Australia. Initially TTA will continue to operate as it does not, but it will ultimately be absorbed into the Tyres4U operation. This is expected to be complete by the end of November 2019.

Big Atom using tyres to disrupt polymer industry

Just a year after the company was founded, polymer recycler Big Atom reports that it has “successfully disrupted the industry across the North West of England”. Big Atom says it is driving the UK to a sustainable future by kickstarting both local and national engagement with a circular initiative in the waste industry. The vision is to provide systems to realise a circular economy, effectively converting plastic and rubber waste into secondary raw materials.

Avon Tyres, Aston Martin Le Mans victory to be celebrated

Avon Tyres will celebrate its famous victory at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans with Aston Martin during this year’s Autumn Classic at Castle Combe on 5 October. Established in 2012, the Autumn Classic has developed into a popular event on the classic racing calendar, providing grids full of spectacular cars from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Kirkby Tyres continues expansion plans

In late 2018, Kirkby Tyres completed ‘stage one’ of its expansion plan for its Liverpool-based distribution facility. The wholesaler, which specialises in commercial, OTR and agricultural tyres, opened new state of the art warehousing facilities, with a gala opening which also marked the company’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Following on from this landmark year, Kirkby has begun ‘stage two’ of its expansion plans. Once completed in 2020, the full expansion will bring its total covered tyre and wheel storage space to 250,000 square feet.

Kings Road Tyres in administration

Beleaguered wholesale and tyre services company Kings Road Tyres is now in administration, with KPMG appointed joint administrators. The administration comes at the end of nearly a decade of turbulence for the company, which is one of the UK’s oldest tyre wholesale operations, having been incorporated in 1959.

The Colewood Group has acquired the online domain name www.etyres.co.uk following the business ceasing trading recently. Etyres.co.uk has since been re-launched with a brand new website on the 30 September 2019.

Lamborghini seals Blancpain GT honours on Pirelli tyres

The Orange1 FFF Racing #563 Lamborghini won the final Blancpain Endurance Cup race of the season in Barcelona, helping the team to seal the overall and Endurance Cup titles with 185 points. The crew of Andrea Caldarelli, Marco Mapelli and Albert Costa, who replaced the unwell Dennis Lind, started third on the grid following qualifying, but eventually moved up to first spot to take the chequered flag.
