CV Show first public outing for Conti Hybrid

The Commercial Vehicle Show begins tomorrow, and Continental is displaying its new Conti Hybrid tyre line for the first time at the Birmingham show. The tyre maker says the Conti Hybrid is a range developed in response to the diversity of the regional transport segment; the tyres are intended to address the challenges faced in regional delivery by offering long tyre life and a high degree of fuel efficiency. The line-up will be available at the start of the second half of 2014 and in 17.5, 19.5, and 22.5-inch formats.

Michelin offers Euro VI truck in CV tyre sales promotion

Michelin has launched a British sales promotion for the commercial vehicle sector, offering a three-year lease on a new Euro VI 6×2 tractor unit. Business customers in England Scotland and Wales purchasing two or more Michelin tyres from ATS Euromaster, a Michelin Truck Professional Centre, or the trucks.michelin.co.uk e-commerce platform can enter up to ten times.

High tyre test rating for Atlas no surprise, says Deldo

The tyres securing a podium place in German magazine tyre tests are almost invariably products from the ‘top-ten’ manufacturers. This is so often the case that one publication recently described the performance of rubber from outside this small circle of tyre majors as being “surprisingly good”. The magazine was Auto Bild, and the tyre in question is the Atlas Sport Green.

Bridgestone renews 16-year-old’s motocross sponsorship

Bridgestone has renewed its sponsorship of 16-year-old Redditch rider Rob Yates, following his “breakthrough” year of 2013. Bridgestone training development manager Mark Fereday predicted that Yates is “destined for greater things in the years ahead.” The tyre brand will supply tyres and clothing as Yates competes in such competitions as the GT Cup and British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association championships.

Titan to reduce employee headcount following disappointing Q1 performance

First quarter 2014 financials for Titan International are out, and Maurice Taylor says the company’s performance during the opening three months of the fiscal year fell short of expectations, mainly due to a “nonexistent” mining business, declines in the original equipment and aftermarket agricultural segments, and higher fuel costs. Titan now intends to instigate a series of optimisation measures at its global facilities.

Interstate to show new products at Essen

Interstate Tires, the premium budget tyre manufacturer has been an exhibitor at the Reifen show since 1996. At this year’s exhibition, Interstate will showcase its new, expanded range of products. With a product portfolio of more than 300 sizes of summer tyres and 280 unique sizes of winter, Interstate is now a true full line supplier.

The Mitas touch – a new plant, agri tyre ‘revolution’, and a changing brand focus

Ask many Subaru owners if they’re familiar with Fuji Heavy Industries and you’ll receive a negative response, even though one of the company’s products is parked in the driveway. Czech Republic-based tyre maker Mitas has faced a similar situation in recent years. Even though the off-road specialist’s share of the European agricultural tyre market (not counting imports from outside Europe) is said to be around 35 per cent, recognition of the Mitas name doesn't necessarily reflect this. The company now intends to change this state of affairs, and the percentage of tyres it produces under the Mitas brand name is set to markedly increase over the coming five years.

Alliance sponsors National Tractor Pullers Association

Alliance Tire Americas, Inc. is now an official sponsor of the National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA), according to the association the world’s oldest and most respected truck and tractor pulling sanctioning organization. NPTA reports that the three-year deal will “raise awareness for the Alliance brand by exposing it to fans attending tractor pulls across the Midwest and South, as well as to the thousands who follow the action on RFD-TV and online.”

Michelin reports higher volumes, lower sales in Q1 2014

During the first quarter of the 2014 fiscal year, Michelin experienced a 3.4 per cent rise in volumes, with fast original equipment segment momentum and growth in the truck tyre business, while weak mining tyre sales were offset by growth in aviation and two-wheel tyre business within the specialty tyre segment. This increase in volumes did not translate to higher net sales, however.
Overall Michelin Group sales declined 2.4 per cent year-on-year to €4.76 billion.

Dunlop brothers join Metzeler for road racing season

Michael and William Dunlop have chosen to join Metzeler for the road racing season, in a line-up that includes Guy Martin and Josh Brookes. The brand’s tyres will be present on machinery from five different manufacturers: Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki and BMW.

Yokohama returns as BRDC F4 control tyre supplier

New and returning drivers in what is described as being one of the world’s most cost-effective single seat motorsport categories are heading to Silverstone this weekend for the opening rounds of the 2014 BRDC Formula 4 Championship. As was the case during last year’s inaugural season, the control tyre for 2014 will be provided by Yokohama.
