10th Hankook Masters depot opens

The Stafford branch of Mr. Tyre has become the tenth Hankook Masters site in the UK and the third Mr. Tyre depot, after Leicester and Lincoln, to join the Hankook Masters Program. Mr. Tyre and its 28 UK depots has been a Hankook customer for almost 16 years.

Aeolus a DongFeng Racing Team platinum sponsor

According to Greek mythology, Aeolus was the ruler of the winds, and for this reason Aeolus Tyres’ Western Europe general manager considers sponsoring a participant in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014/2015 highly appropriate. At a press conference in the French seaport of Lorient, Thomas Wohlgemuth said the sponsorship deal with the DongFeng Racing Team had “set the sails towards the right direction” and will aid Aeolus in its goal of positioning itself at the apex of its business segment.

Maxam distributor Propneu wins dealer award

Czech company Propneu S.r.o. was awarded the Maxam European dealer trophy for 2013 at the recent Expo Mokra exhibition, held near Brno in the Czech Republic.

Established in 2003, Propneu has been the exclusive distributor for Maxam tyres in the Czech and Slovak republics for six years and they have built up their business to become the market leaders in the supply and servicing of OTR tyres and tyres for construction equipment in this area.

Blackcircles.com opens first Tesco PitStop in Scotland

Blackcircles.com has opened its fourth tyre fitting Tesco PitStop, and first in Scotland, at Tesco Extra in Silverburn, Glasgow. The PitStop is operational and opened for bookings on Saturday 28 June, with the first tyres being fitted on Monday 30 June. The first PitStop Click&Fit tyre bay was opened in Milton Keynes in July 2013. Since then, additional PitStops have been opened at Tesco Extra stores in Bar Hill, Cambridge and Handforth, Cheshire.

Nexen confirms Czech Republic factory details

Nexen Tire has officially confirmed that it is building a new plant in Zatec, Czech Republic with the stated aims of developing its European foothold and expanding its global production base. The company also confirmed that the project will cost 1.2 trillion Korean won, approximately 829 million euros, bringing some clarity to reports that have also suggested a US$1.17 billion pricetag.

As of 1 July, former Bridgestone UK consumer sales director Brett Emerson will join Hankook Tyre UK as sales director. In his new role, Emerson will oversee all business development for Hankook’s commercial and car tyre businesses within the UK.

The Genesis of Zenises

Mid-way through the Essen Show, the people behind one of the largest plots in hall three (home to the Infinity, Westlake and Linglong brands) announced that they are changing their corporate identity. And while this did mean the unveiling of a Zenises logo and a new range of Z branded tyres, speaking to chief executive officer Harjeev Kandhari reveals that the concept goes far further than this.

Vredestein Quatrac 5 launch designed to make a marque

On 23 June Apollo Vredestein introduced a new generation of all-season tyres – the Vredestein Quatrac 5. In parallel the company also launched the new Snowtrac 5 winter tyre. However, as much as the launch was about these products and the technology associated with them, there was also a heavy emphasis on further communicating the upwardly mobile so-called “brand emotion” the company has work hard to associated with its name during the last two decades. The launch could also be read as suggesting a broadening in the company's pioneering approach to the development of the winter tyre market in the UK to include a greater role for all-season tyres.

Maxxis ‘holding ground’ in global tyre market

Maxxis held its ground at number nine in the annual Tyres & Accessories ranking of key global tyre industry companies, with its 2013 financial results showing consistency with 2012. The Taiwan based manufacturer reported small increases in sales, from $4.63 billion in 2012 to $4.77 billion in 2014, with net profit remaining at around 14 per cent. Maxxis International managing director Derek McMartin said that the company considers its results “a great achievement” given the continuing volatile market situation.

Tyre campaigner announced for Brityrex 2014 TyreTalk seminars

Frances Molloy, a prominent tyre legislation campaigner, has been announced as a speaker at October’s Brityrex International’s TyreTalk seminars. Molloy, who is chief executive of Health@Work and chair of Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, has been lobbying the UK government to change the law on the sale and fitting of overage tyres following the death of her 18-year old son alongside the driver and another passenger in an accident caused by the blowout of a second-hand 19.5-year old tyre.

The Dmack supported Drive Dmack Fiesta Trophy heads to round two in Poland next week following a competitive first outing in Portugal. Dmack will supply a maximum of 14 DMG2 compound G42 rally tyres to each crew.

Triangle takes westward steps

China-based Triangle Group Co. Ltd. may already be the world’s 15th largest tyre manufacturer, according to Tyres & Accessories’ latest global tyre manufacturer ranking, but it is clear that the company is intending to go far further than this. Rhetoric to this effect is not uncommon amongst Far Eastern businesses, but as is always the case, actions speak louder than words. With its latest appearance in Essen Triangle has begun fleshing out its plans to take the company from being a Chinese manufacturer with export sales to being a large international manufacturer with global reach.

Pirelli to exhibit at Brityrex 2014

Pirelli has become the first premium brand tyre manufacturer to confirm that it will exhibit at Brityrex International. Pirelli’s direct involvement represents a something of a coup for the British tyre market show, taking place at EventCity, Manchester on 7-9 October. While the show was able to attract Michelin Training Centre in 2012 – a returning exhibitor in 2014 – this year’s Brityrex is increasing its profile with both major and second-tier tyre brands, a fact that organiser SingEx-ECI expects will increase its appeal.
