Early start to the season – first 2015 summer tyre test published

A commonly held view is that Germans are very punctual, and even prone to showing up early. This is certainly the case when it comes to summer tyre tests this year. Russian auto market crashes

Demand in the Russian light vehicle automotive market has crashed following what some analysts have called a “perfect storm” of contributing factors. As a result the country’s light-vehicle market suffered a massive 24.4 per cent year-on-year decline in sales during January to 115,390 units (down 32,272 units).

IHS Automotive said this was the result of “a perfect storm in macroeconomic terms with rising prices, declining spending power, eroded confidence and the economic effect of sanctions on the Russian government.” The worst thing is that this is despite the renewal of the Russian government’s vehicle scrappage scheme. And it looks like it won’t get any better. IHS Automotive forecasts that the Russian light-vehicle sales will fall by 27.4 per cent year-on-year in 2015 to 1.81 million units.

‘Lowering the bar’ – Bridgestone rolls out its VT-Tractor agricultural range

Now would be a good time to bin any romantic stereotypes of bucolic rural idyll. Agriculture has always been a serious business for those engaged in the sector, and the deployment of technology and new practices to maximise land productivity is nothing new. And while British farmers haven’t more recently experienced the pressure to ‘get big or get out’ as much as their peers in some markets, the drive for greater efficiency has however meant a trend towards larger-sized agricultural equipment.
