Success for Avon in 2015 Isle of Man TT Sidecar races

More than 100 competitors used Avon tyres at this year’s Isle of Man TT. Competitors covered the 37.73 mile road circuit, touching 200mph on little more than country back roads, making the perfect tyre selection and setup essential. The manufacturer had its greatest taste of success in sidecar racing, sweeping the podium in both of the Sure Sidecar races.

PCL: Autopromotec attracted international interest

PCL greeted customers from around the world at this year’s Autopromotec, with the Spanish market said to be enjoying a boom.

Bologna’s celebrated its 26th show with a new floor plan aimed at grouping exhibitors into areas of interest. Within Europe the most noticeable development was reported by PCL’s Spanish distributors, who were upbeat about the future for the local market.

Sentury Tire makes 30 million euro Cimcorp order

Cimcorp, which specialises in intralogistics automation reports that Qingdao Sentury Tire Co Ltd. has made the firm’s biggest ever order. According to Cimcorp Sentury has ordered a turnkey material handling solution for its new factory in Thailand.

First Stop accepted by Foxy Lady’s female friendly Tyre Services Register

First Stop’s 76 branches will join a list of female-friendly garages, accident repairers and car dealers when it is accepted onto the Foxy Lady Approved Tyre Services Register. The Register identifies businesses that meet the female drivers club’s quality standards. Each member of the list has signed a Foxy Lady Promise to “never overcharge, patronise or sell women services they don't need.” The new tyre-based register, “monitored by regular female feedback” like Foxy Lady's other automotive industry registers, was started to build upon the club’s TyreSafe Online and Social Media Award in 2014, which recognised its work in promoting tyre safety using its Twitter and Facebook pages. The club is also a TyreSafe member.

Arcom introduces new foldable pallet tyre racking system

The Polish producer of powder coated or galvanised coated tyre racks, trolleys and display stands, Arcom has unveiled its latest tyre rack. The AR05 MIX is a universal tyre rack, which can store up to 72 passenger car and 4×4 tyres, or 40 light truck tyres on bars. Fully transportable – the AR05 MIX can be folded and stored up to 20 units high including storage of bars – the AR05 MIX is stackable up to three levels high (6.6m).

Pirelli nominates F1 tyre compounds for Silverstone, Hungaroring, Spa, and Monza

Pirelli has confirmed the 2015 tyre choices up to its home grand prix in Italy, with a third outing of 2015 for the P Zero Orange hard tyre at Silverstone. The fast British circuit, next on the agenda for Formula One, will see Pirelli supply its P Zero White medium too, meaning the hardest tyres in the line-up will be utilised for the second time in two years.

F1 drivers draw out tyre stints in safety car affected Austrian grand prix

An early safety car at the Austrian Grand Prix made one-stop the default strategy, though with a number of grid penalties in operation, many drivers were planning long stints from the start. Chief among these was Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, who ran for 50 laps on his original set of P Zero Yellow soft tyres, ending up in the points after starting 18th on the grid, while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished fourth after completing 36 laps on the P Zero Red supersoft.

Michelin supporting Ford’s 2016 return to 24 Hours of Le Mans

Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the 1-2-3 finish achieved by the Ford GT at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and to mark the occasion Ford is returning to the endurance race with an all-new vehicle bearing the Ford GT name. At a recent press conference, Ford shared that it will work towards this goal with Michelin as its exclusive tyre technology partner.

Industrial tyre sector performs well despite raw material and forex complications

With signs that European economies are improving at the same time logistics and the commercial vehicle tyre market is picking up, you might expect the industrial tyre market to be growing too. But with the euro depreciating against the dollar, most of the major manufacturers have announced price increases of between 8 and 10 per cent, making the situation somewhat more complex. With all this in mind, Tyres & Accessories spoke with Eddy Woolley, a director of UK-based national mobile fitting specialist First Industrial Tyres (FIT), in order to find out more about what this means on the ground.

Ceva launches multi-brand ‘TyreCity’ logistics solution in Italy

Ceva Logistics has officially opened a new 80,000 square metre facility in Italy dedicated to the warehousing, handling and cross docking of tyres and related products. The new TyreCity operation is located near Milan in the municipality of Somaglia, and it the fourth centre Ceva Logistics has set up in Italy in order to cater to a specific sector; the logistics specialist already operates City of Books for the publishing sector, City of Pharma for the healthcare products market, and TechCity for the electronics sector.

Autopromotec considering South American and/or Middle Eastern shows

For the past few years Autopromotec’s organisers, Promotec Spa, have observed an ongoing “regional versus national trend” in the automotive trade show field. Up till now Promotec executives haven’t shared much about what this means for their shows or what plans they have in response, but now it looks like the goal is to export the successful Autopromotec model to other regions and markets, making the Bologna ‘mother show’ even more of a regional exhibition rather than simply an Italian show. Tyres & Accessories met up with Autopromotec brand manager Emanuele Vicentini during May’s Autopromotec in Bologna and learnt that we could soon be hearing about Autopromotec events in other countries.

Michelin introduces YieldBib agri tyre range

Michelin has introduced its new YieldBib agricultural tyre for high horse powered tractors and other agricultural machinery. Previously available solely on the North American market, Michelin executives in Stoke-on-Trent saw an opportunity for the YieldBib range to replace standard 85 series tyres in the UK and Ireland.
