Metzeler reports with pride that its Roadtec 01 has been voted the Best Sports Touring Tyre by Motorcycle News for the second consecutive year. The publication evaluated eight sports touring tyres at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, and published the results of this test in its 7 June 2017 issue.
Dunlop has released a new video with senior engineer, racing car tyre development, Vincent van Goor explaining its tyre development ahead of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. A record number of LMP2 cars will compete on the manufacturer’s rubber – 22 of the 25 entrants. All of the cars are racing on the La Sarthe track for the first time courtesy of new regulations for 2017. The race starts at 15:00 CEST on Saturday 17 June.
Trelleborg Industrial and Construction Tyres has joined the NTDA both as a supplier member and as a full member under the UK network of centres in its ‘Interfit’ service division.
Trelleborg Industrial and Construction Tyres is a global manufacturer of premium quality tyres and has developed extensive product ranges to serve both solid and pneumatic tyre requirements within these sectors. The UK operation has two distinct channels with very different customer bases and varying requirements. A major part of the business is to supply and fit tyres through its Interfit service division, where the customer base predominantly consists of Forklift Truck manufacturers and their dealer networks. In addition, Trelleborg has developed a facility to supply tyres to the replacement market where the majority of customers in this channel are tyre dealers and distributors. Although the vast majority of products are fitted to Forklift trucks, it also supplies and fits tyres to ground support equipment such as airport vehicles, reach stackers and container handlers.
Bridgestone Aircraft Tire USA, which operates a 160,000-square-foot aircraft tyre retreading facility in Rockingham County, North Carolina, is expanding with a new warehouse in nearby Madison.

During May’s Autopromotec, leading Italian garage machinery firm Nexion Group and Chinese garage equipment-maker Bright Technology announced that they have formed a joint venture.
According to the two companies, the two firms have formed a third company that will allow Bright and the Nexion Group to “assert itself as a leader in the industry and be active on all global markets with a full range in all product segments from the top of the range to the entry level”.
Giti Tire participated in the 45th ADAC Zurich 24h Race at the Nürburgring partnership with Team Dörr, one of Germany’s most experienced motorsport companies, finishing second in the SP8 class and 40th overall. Its fastest lap time was 09:11.087 minutes. The team’s Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo gained pole position in its class after qualifying but had its winning chances snatched away with a broken drive shaft with two hours remaining. The relationship with Team Dörr dates back to January 2017.

Bridgestone has secured the largest commercial fleet contract in its history, a $110m, five-year deal with transport operator FirstGroup. Bridgestone will supply tyres to more than 60,000 of FirstGroup’s buses and coaches in the USA, Canada and the UK.
Connor McCloskey claimed outright victory on Pirelli tyres at the Severn Valley Stages, round three of the Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Championship. Co-driven by John Rowan, McCloskey led throughout in his Ford Fiesta WRC, winning by 45 seconds at the finish in Builth Wells. Charlie Payne finished second in another Pirelli-equipped Fiesta WRC.
British supplier Wolfrace Wheels has been designing, manufacturing and selling advanced alloy wheels since 1971, seeing a great deal of evolution in the country’s aftermarket. From slot mag-shod Bedford CFs in the mid-1970s via Voodoo equipped Escort RS Turbos in the late 1990s to the present day, Wolfrace has remained a supporter of British design and engineering. While many aftermarket wheels now enter the market from plants in the Far East, and indeed Wolfrace itself has manufactured there in the past, the company has taken the decision to bring its entire manufacturing programme back to Europe. China’s Guangzhou Vanlead Group Co. Ltd. reports that its subsidiary, Wanli Tire Corporation Ltd., intends to start work on a US$1 billion tyre factory in the US state of South Carolina during the first half of next year.
Cooper Tire 4×4 ambassador and 27-time Dakar Rally entrant, Xavi Foj, has become one of only six competitors to be honoured with Dakar Legend status. During his Dakar Rally career, Foj has secured two victories, nine podium finishes and has an impressive run of 13 consecutive finishes to his name. Falken Motorsport achieved eighth place overall at the 45th ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24h race with its new BMW M6 GT3. The Sumitomo global brand’s motorsport division makes the race one of the flagship events in its promotional calendar, and added a second car to its team for the 2017 edition. Falken’s newest addition, competing at the endurance race for the first time in the company’s colours, was the third-best BMW home after a collision on Saturday evening led to the retirement of its Porsche 911 GT3 after completing just 26 laps.
