MRF considering European car tyre import options

Not only has leading Indian tyre maker MRF Tyres, launched its MRF Motorsport Tyres Europe operation during Autosport International 2016, the firm is also considering importing its passenger car tyres into Europe in the years to come. While MRF has been exporting to between 60 and 70 countries worldwide for some time now the majority of these are in Asia, with others in the Middle East, Africa and South America. A few speciality products aside, MRF hasn’t really been exporting to Europe before now.

Camso gains Toyota SEQCD award

Camso, formerly known as Camoplast Solideal, reported this week that it is a recipient of a 2014 Toyota Safety, Environment, Quality, Cost and Delivery (SEQCD) Award in recognition for excellence as a supplier of forklift tyres. The company says that, as a valued partner of Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing, Camso was recognised for its “outstanding performance and its high standards of excellence for their material handling wheels and tyres.”

91% market coverage with Dunlop’s latest RoadSmart tyre

Dunlop Motorcycle Europe has announced the size range for its new RoadSmart III sport touring tyre, which goes on sale this month. The range includes 18 tyre specifications, covering 16 sizes, giving a 91 per cent market coverage – a first for Dunlop in this growing sector.

Michelin’s online portal saves money for Essex coach company

C&J Coach Tours has signed up to Michelin’s new online portal – Michelin MyAccount – and is using the service to reduce its annual tyre spend. The owner-operator coach tour and holiday company subscribed to the free resource on recommendation of its local ATS Euromaster branch in Colchester, which handles its tyre fitments and servicing. Since then the company has benefited from extra support from Michelin, including offers and additional services.

ATS wins ISG fleet contract

Leeds-based fleet management company Incident Support Group (ISG) has contracted ATS Euromaster to supply and fit premium Michelin tyres across more than 400 cars and vans for one of its key account customers in the healthcare sector. ISG says its customer recognises the importance tyres play in overall fleet performance, and specified Michelin fitments to maximise tyre life and keep fleet downtime to an absolute minimum.

NTDA names Tyre Industry Conference and Annual Dinner sponsors

The NTDA has the sponsors of this year’s Tyre Industry Conference as well as the Annual Dinner and Awards that follow it. The 2nd NTDA Tyre Industry Conference, 87th Annual Dinner will be held at the Vox Conference Centre in Birmingham on Thursday 6 October 2016. Confirmed sponsors for 2016 include: Goodyear Dunlop Tyres, Maritime Cargo Services, Pirelli Tyres, Tyrexpo series organiser SingEx, Zenises and Ztyre.com.

Cicero named CEO of Triangle Tire USA

Manny Cicero, who previously held the post of president of Alliance Tire Americas, has been named chief executive officer of Triangle Tire USA. His appointment follows last November’s official opening of the Chinese tyre maker’s local operation, Triangle Tire United States of America LLC.

Goodyear, Nokian take honours in French tyre test

A test of five size 205/55 R16all-season tyres by French publication L’Argus has resulted in a joint victory for Nokian and Goodyear. The Nokian Weatherproof and Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen2 both gained 78 out of a possible 100 points in the evaluation of braking, handling, aquaplaning and traction characteristics. L’Argus reports that the Nokian tyre was top performer in the traction test and comes into its own in the snow, while the Vector 4 Seasons showed particular strengths in the wet, including during the wet braking test.

Michelin boosts restaurant activities with BookaTable acquisition

It isn’t all tyres at Michelin – the firm behind the esteemed Red Guide series has announced its acquisition of online restaurant reservation company BookaTable. Michelin says the transaction demonstrates an “intention to accelerate its development” in Europe’s online restaurant reservation market.

Goodyear steps up tyre retail involvement with new UK digital platform

Goodyear has launched its next generation website in the UK and Ireland. While not quite the pioneering retail strategy employed by the manufacturer’s US digital platform, the new site (www.goodyear.co.uk) has increased the company’s interaction with end-consumers – a reaction to the sustained growth in consumers researching their tyre purchase decision online. In an unusual move for tyre manufacturers’ own websites, Goodyear also provides a recommended sell-out price on its tyres, which indicates a step towards the retail activity of its American cousin, albeit without any sort of requirement of the retailer to honour that price.

‘Agri Supplier of the Year’ strengthens range with IF, VF products

Last month we mentioned that 2015 had been a good year for Kirkby Tyres Ltd. Amongst other highlights, the wholesaler instigated a new warehouse project, added key new product lines and was named ‘Truck and Agricultural Tyre Supplier of the Year’ at the NTDA awards in October. The Liverpool-based company now looks forward to continuing its success in 2016.
