Autonomous solutions: Bridgestone becomes Einride’s US tyre supplier

Tests of self-driving trucks on public roads have been taking place in the USA for several years now, and Bridgestone Americas is partnering in a number of projects. Following on from its investments in Kodiak Robotics and Azuga, the company has announced a partnership with Swedish electric and autonomous freight mobility solutions company Einride. Bridgestone says this partnership aims to co-create “innovative and sustainable mobility solutions for electrified and autonomous Class 8 vehicles.”

Kerr’s Tyres buys Auto Bann

At the start of August, Kerr’s Tyres Group, announced it had completed the purchase of Auto Bann. The acquisition of Auto Bann, one of Portadown’s most respected independent garages, means Auto Bann becomes the 13th Kerr’s Tyres & Auto location in Northern Ireland and the first in Portadown. Having entered Tyres & Accessories top 25 UK tyre retailer ranking in May 2021 when the company had 12 branches, the addition of Auto Bann means the chain’s current total of 13 is one step closer to 24th position, which is currently occupied by Elite Garages, with 14 branches.

Pirelli tyres for Ferrari’s electric 250 Testa Rossa replica

The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is back, albeit in three-quarters scale and powered by an electric engine that’s good for around 60mph. Ferrari has collaborated with The Little Car Company to create the Ferrari Testa Rossa J. Each of the 299 vehicles produced will be fitted with Pirelli Cinturato tyres as original equipment.

Nokian Tyres: ‘strong volume & profit growth’ in H1 2021

The difference a year can make. Almost 12 months to the day after reporting an operating loss of 13.7 million euros for the first half of 2020, Nokian Tyres has announced achieving an operating profit of 126.1 million in the six months to 30 June 2021 with an earnings per share of 0.72 euros. It achieved this result on the back of net sales that were up 37.7 per cent year-on-year to 758.0 million euros. Nokian Tyres notes that when looking at comparable currencies, net sales increased by 41.5 per cent.

BMW M4 riding on Continental tyres

Continental shares that BMW has chosen it as an original equipment supplier for the new M4. The tyre maker will deliver its Continental SportContact 6 for factory fitment on the second-generation of BMW’s performance coupe, having received global approvals for the dimensions 275/40 ZR18 (103Y) XL and 285/35 ZR19 (103Y) XL.

Pirelli P Zero RA tyres lock out Rally di Roma podium

Giandomenico Basso beat Italian rally champion Andrea Crugnola and Hungary’s Norbert Herczig to make an all-Pirelli podium at the Rally di Roma Capitale. The round of both the Italian and European championships is contested over 13 asphalt stages, with competitors using the consistent Pirelli RA5 tyres, which contended with high ground temperatures of up to 60 degrees centigrade.

20% of motorway breakdowns caused by tyres – Highways England

Kevin Burke Tyres to supply BFGoodrich in Ireland to mid-2024

Kevin Burke Tyres (KBT) has signed an initial three-year distribution partnership with Groupe Michelin brand BFGoodrich. The wholesaler will supply BFGoodrich tyres across the whole of Ireland until at least mid-2024 with the option to extend for a further two years. The deal covers BFGoodrich car, van, SUV and 4×4 tyres, all of which will be stocked for next-day delivery at KBT’s warehouse facility in Athenry, County Galway. The company has stocked “large quantities” of BFGoodrich tyres since 2015, it said, with the new deal representing the latest step in its developing relationship with the brand. The deal follows news from Great Britain that newly appointed UK BFGoodrich 4×4 wholesaler Micheldever Tyre Services has almost doubled its sales of the brand in the last year.
