Martin Winter appointed ZC Rubber technical director EMEA & Americas

Zhongce Rubber (ZC Rubber) has appointed Martin Winter technical director tire development EMEA & Americas. Winter took up the position on 1 August 2022. He brings with him more than 20 years’ experience of working in original equipment tyre development with Continental, Goodyear, Hankook, and most recently Sentury Tire, where he was global technical director OE. ZC Rubber opened its Europe Technical Center (ETC) in Hannover Germany in 2021. It will use the ETC to support the global development of its original equipment business and to work with key OE accounts in the region. In his new role, Winter will report to Martin Wells, vice president ZC Technical Center & global OE.

Bridgestone & Webfleet showcasing solutions at IAA Transportation 2022

Who is joining Continental as VW ID. Buzz tyre supplier?

When Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles began manufacturing the ID. Buzz at its Hannover plant in Germany last month, it described the production start as a “milestone in the brand’s electrification.” VW intends to build up to 130,000 units a year, and Continental has already ‘outed’ itself as original equipment tyre supplier. But despite the German manufacturer’s long history of equipping VW campervans, the EcoContact 6 Q is presumably not the only tyre being supplied to VW production lines for the ID. Buzz.

Continental streamlining its hose production in Germany

Continental has announced a reorganisation within its non-tyre business that will lead to the closure of one of its factories in Germany and affect up to 870 jobs. These changes are taking place within the company’s ContiTech group sector and specifically apply to the Mobile Fluid Systems (MFS) business area, and are occurring as the sun continues to set over Germany’s ICE vehicle sector.

Giti GSR237 Combi Road launches in size 355/50R22.5

A completely new size for Giti Tire in Europe, the freshly-released Giti GSR237 Combi Road steer tyre in 355/50R22.5 offers a further fitment option for vehicles used in high load, low platform transportation. Giti Tire says it designed the GSR237 Combi Road to compete with premium brands – which up until now have been the only manufacturers producing this size.

Giti Tire extends GT Radial SportActive 2 size range

Giti Tire has added 28 new sizes to its GT Radial SportActive 2 ultra-high performance tyre range. Fitting rims sized between 16 and 21 inches, the tyre is now available in 42 fitments for cars and SUVs. Some SUV sizes carry a specific SUV marking on their sidewall to indicate their suitability for this fitment, Giti adds. While the eponymous Giti brand is growing in European markets, GT Radial continues to be the manufacturer’s most important brand in the UK, receiving substantial backing from exclusive distributer Micheldever Tyre Services. The latest support for its flagship car tyre product was announced from Stand B030-C039 in Hall 7 at The Tire Cologne, Koelnmesse, which continues until 26 May.

Giti expands GitiSportS2 UHP tyre size range

Giti Tire has added 27 sizes to its ultra-high performance GitiSportS2 range. Launched in 2021, the tyre was developed using Giti Tire’s globally-integrated, company-wide R&D system, AdvanZtech, and features a new compound that offers extremely high levels of grip which has resulted in an A grading for wet braking. Rolling resistance is measured from B-E. Fabio Pecci-Boriani, senior product manager PCR, SUV, Light Truck for Giti Tire (Europe), described the GitiSportS2 as: “The most technologically advanced, best performing, and dare I say the most exciting UHP tyre ever developed by the European R&D team.”

30 new GitiSynergy H2 sizes

Following on from a solid performance the 185/65 R15 tyre test recently performed by European motoring associations ADAC, ÖAMTC and TCS, Giti Tire has expanded the GitiSynergyH2 range with the addition of a further 30 sizes. The GitiSynergyH2 is now available in 46 passenger car, CUV and compact SUV sizes. The new size range covers 14- to 18-inch rim diameters, section widths from 165-235, series sizes from 50-70 and speed indices across T, H, V, W and Y.

GitiSynergyH2 tyre ADAC ‘Good’ rating ‘an achievement to be celebrated’

Giti Tire has called the ‘Good’ rating awarded to the GitiSynergyH2 high-performance tyre in the ADAC 2022 15” summer tyre test “an achievement to be celebrated.” The tyre was the only sub-premium brand model of the six tyres to achieve this distinction. It was assessed against sixteen other patterns in size 185/65R15 88H in dry and wet road performance, comfort and noise, fuel consumption and wear and tear. It was praised for its all-round performance. The GitiSynergyH2 has been classed as ‘Highly Recommended’ by the Swiss TCS and Austrian OAMTC automobile clubs.

Hankook debuts 4th generation Ventus Prime

The latest incarnation of the Hankook Ventus Prime is now available and takes over from a predecessor that has sold more than 20 million units since 2015, is original equipment on several vehicles and has racked up a number of tyre test honours, including two wins in the renowned Auto Bild summer test. Hankook says the new Ventus Prime 4 offers generational improvements “in practically all relevant points,” including further optimised handling, rolling resistance and mileage.

TÜV SÜD highlights GT Radial performance

Giti Tire has published details of independent tests undertaken by TÜV SÜD for both the GT Radial SportActive 2 and GT Radial FE2 tyre lines. It reports that this testing showed “excellent results against leading brands and direct competitors’ products.”

Continental Tyre Group appoints Tarik Görgün MD

David Smith plans to retire as managing director of Continental Tyre Group at the end of March 2022. Continental has announced that his successor will be Tarik Görgün, who is currently head of OE Tyres Japan and global key account manager for Honda and Subaru. Görgün will take over the role of managing director for the UK and Ireland from 1 March 2022.

Tire Technology Expo postponed

UKi Media & Events, the organiser of Tire Technology Expo has postponed this year’s show in Hannover “due to the current rapid escalation of the Omicron variant of Covi-19 throughout Europe.” The 2022 edition will now take place 18-20 May at the Deutsche Messe, Hannover, Germany.

Focus on Europe: Delticom sells North American business

On 14 January, Delticom AG signed a contract for the sale of its majority shareholding in Delticom North America Inc. with Tire Capital LLC. The Hannover, Germany-based online tyre company expects to receive between US$7.5 million and $8 million for its 75 per cent stake in the US subsidiary, the sales price being subject to customary market adjustment mechanisms. Delticom anticipates a finalisation of the contract in the second half of February.

Agritechnica: 2022 show cancelled

In response to tougher local Covid measures and the ever-present risk of travel restrictions, the organiser of Agritechnica has confirmed the show’s postponement. The event scheduled to take place between 27 February and 5 March will no longer take place, and the German Agricultural Society (DLG) now plans to hold the next Agritechnica between 12 and 18 November 2023.
