Triangle Tyre publishes details of USA car, truck tyre factory plans

In disclosures to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Triangle Tyre Co., Ltd. reports its intention to invest US$580 million in what the company calls its “America Factory Project”. The investment will cover the cost of erecting facilities for producing both passenger car and commercial vehicle tyres.

Dmack ends best WRC season yet on a high

This year has been the most successful FIA World Rally Champion season so far for Dmack, and it has rounded off 2017 with a best-ever performance on the final round at Kennards Hire Rally Australia – topping the timesheets on the eighth event this season. Elfyn Evans and Dan Barritt powered their M-Sport World Rally Team Ford Fiesta WRC to a stage victory on the final day, securing their highest championship finish of fifth and becoming the third highest scorers of stage wins this season.

STARCO launches two new tyre & wheel solutions

Amongst the products shown by the 2,900 or so exhibitors at this year’s Agritechnica fair were two new tyre and wheel combinations from STARCO. Introducing the HT Pro solution for hay tedders and the HS Flotation for agricultural implements, the company’s segment director for Agricultural Implement, Frédéric Ivancich, commented that while wheels and tyres are often not considered when looking at ways to optimise the performance of an agricultural vehicle, machine or implement, STARCO and its customers “know their true potential.”

Two open competition titles for Dunlop in FIA WEC

With the 6 Hours of Bahrain, the current FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season drew to a close. Reflecting on an “amazing season of racing,” Dunlop has congratulated Aston Martin Racing and Vaillante Rebellion for their class victories. Both raced on Dunlop tyres in open tyre classes; Aston Martin Racing won the FIA World Endurance Trophy for LMGTE Am Teams and Vaillante Rebellion won the FIA World Endurance Trophy for LMP2 Teams. Each of the teams began the event leading the standings and both claimed race victories in Bahrain to secure the crowns.

Michelin Vision concept tyre a Time ’25 Best’ invention

US-based publication Time has chosen the Vision concept tyre from Michelin as one of its ’25 Best inventions of 2017’. In addition to admiring the tyre’s airless structure and use of recycled materials, Time considered the Vision’s “most impressive feature” to be its 3D printed treads, which can be swapped to accommodate varied road conditions without changing the tyre itself. The Vision “certainly makes a compelling case” for how future tyre technology may look, the publication opined.

Michelin supporting Hyundai tyre development programme

Under a cooperative deal signed with Hyundai Motor, Michelin will work together to develop a new all-season tyre for electric vehicles, and will also collaborate in the development of a bespoke tyre for a successor model to the Genesis G80 saloon. Representatives from Hyundai Motor recently visited Michelin’s research and development centre in Clermont-Ferrand, France, to sign a technical partnership agreement.

Four ATS Euromaster centres join new BFGoodrich off-road network

Four ATS Euromaster branches from across the UK are among the first to join BFGoodrich’s new Off-Road Centre programme. The ATS Euromaster centres – in Perth and Forfar, Scotland; Abergavenny, Wales; and Tavistock, England – have been selected to become BFGoodrich specialists based on their locations in popular off-road parts of the country to offer all-terrain tyres and services. The four ATS Euromaster centres are joined by independent North Yorkshire retailer, and NTDA Tyre Centre of the Year 2017, Ian Brown Tyres in the new Off-Road Centre initiative. BFGoodrich states that it carefully selected tyre retailers recognised by enthusiastic off-roaders as leaders in the field to become ambassadors for the company.

YourTire – Trelleborg offers sidewall personalisation to Valtra customers

A joint project by Trelleborg and AGCO tractor brand Valtra brings customisation to tyre sidewalls. By adding the Trelleborg YourTire service to the Valtra Unlimited Configurator, customers can personalise their Trelleborg tyres when they configure their Valtra tractor, adding their own name or the Valtra logo to the sidewall. The YourTire collaboration was unveiled at Agritechnica 2017.

Michelin buys PTG and Teleflow

On 12 November Michelin announced it had bought PTG and Téléflow – both industry leaders in tyre pressure control systems which allow users to monitor and adapt tyre pressures according to the terrain and conditions of use. These acquisitions signal Michelin’s intention to become the global leader for Central Tyre Inflation Systems (CTIS) in the agricultural market. No pricetags associated with the purchases have yet been revealed, but Europe is known to be the centre of the segment, which is valued at around US$1.7 billion in 2017.

Aeolus hosts more than 200 in Italy for launch of Neo commercial tyre series

Aeolus has launched its third generation of truck and bus radial tyres in a large dealer event on the shores – and water – of Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. Readers of Tyres & Accessories will know that this location is highly appropriate for the Chinese company; the introduction of the new, extensive product range comes at a moment when the ChemChina produced brand is preparing for its future positioning as a second-line sister range to Pirelli in the commercial segment. While the exact relationship of Pirelli and Aeolus continues to be fluidly complex, the Italian brand’s recent separation of its commercial tyre operations under the Prometeon Tyre Group banner give a good indication of where Aeolus commercial tyres are heading.

Automatic tyre inflation systems is set to become a multi-billion dollar global industry during the course of the next decade. According to a report produced by Future Market Insights, the market is anticipated to reach revenue of over US$1.500 billion in 2017 and grow at a steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.6 per cent during the 10 year period between 2017 and 2027. The forecast predicts the market to reach a revenue of over $2.7 billion by the end of the forecast period in 2027.
