Maxam to showcase ‘Xtra’ initiatives at Reifen 2016

Maxam Tire International will exhibit its latest OTR, agricultural, industrial and construction product lines from its large stand in Hall 7 (7E19). While this positioning echoes the brand’s positioning two years ago at the last Essen event, much has since changed, with its head office moving to Birmingham and Sailun Europe head Martin West taking over as managing director. Maxam has also appointed new managers, who will attend the show.

Kumho PS91 UHP tyre available soon

Kumho reports that it’s Ecsta PS91 is now only weeks away from UK availability. The PS91 is positioned as Kumho’s optimum high-performance road product, sitting above the ever-popular Ecsta Le Sport KU39. Squarely aimed at supercars and such ultra-quick passenger saloons as BMW M cars, Mercedes-Benz AMG models and Audi RS ones, the entire range will be Y-rated and offered in sizes from 18 to 20 inches in diameter. The focus is on maximum grip and braking performance in the dry, combined with outstanding feel. Nor – says the company – have any of these qualities been achieved at the expense of other key factors. It also has a 3D dimple design which cools the tyre at high speeds, optimising durability and wear rates.

JK Tyre profits jump 41% in 2015-16

India’s JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 4.64 billion (£47.7 million) for the financial year ending 31 March 2016, a 41 per cent year-on-year rise over the previous fiscal. Consolidated turnover amounted to Rs 76.54 billion (£786.9 million). On a standalone basis, JK Tyre achieved turnover of Rs 65.80 billion (£676.5 million), a year-on-year increase of 58 per cent. In light of this improved performance, the company’s Board of Directors has recommended a dividend of 125 per cent on JK Tyre’s equity shares, pending approval at the tyre maker’s Annual General Meeting.

Pirelli anticipates unpredictable BSB Brands Hatch weekend

Pirelli is looking forward to its visit to the shorter Indy configuration of the Brands Hatch circuit, as it supplies the rubber for the latest British Superbike Championship weekend. The circuit tests a rider’s prowess in qualifying, as one second can cover six rows of the grid, as Pirelli UK racing manager Jason Griffiths comments: “The Indy circuit at Brands Hatch never fails to produce close racing.”

Michelin accorded last place in SUV tyre test, Nokian absent from final results

It isn’t every day that a leading premium brand is handed the wooden spoon in a comparative tyre test, however Michelin is currently coming to terms with this tree-based utensil. The test in question appears in the current issue (12/16) of German magazine Autozeitung, and the tyre is the Michelin Latitude Sport 3. While the Michelin Rubber wasn’t found significantly lacking in any particular area and finished very close behind several other products, it was nevertheless trumped fair and square when results of the various performance, environmental and cost-related tests were tallied up.

Evergreen Dyna range boasts “Dynamic” performance

Evergreen recently introduced its all-new Dyna range including the DynaControl EU728 pattern, which reportedly presents handling and braking performance in both wet and dry road conditions. In addition, a special silica compound in the tread is said to “significantly reduce rolling resistance and increases fuel efficiency”.

Bridgestone reports over 300 potential business opportunities were recorded over the recent CV Show in Birmingham. In doing so the company claimed that Bridgestone had “the most impressive stand by a tyre manufacturer at the NEC, with its comprehensive packages of fleet support playing as prominent a role as its ranges of tyres”.

Blaby District Council switches to Michelin following X Works test set longevity

Blaby District Council in Leicestershire has switched to a Michelin tyre policy across its commercial vehicle fleet following a year-long trial on a set of Michelin X Works tyres. Most of the council’s fleet, which includes a mix of 18 Mercedes-Benz and Dennis refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), a 12.5 tonne road sweeper, two 5.2 tonne Iveco Dailys and a single 7.5 tonne DAF 45, plus 30 light commercial vehicles, now runs on Michelin products. All tyre servicing will be carried out by local dealership Lodge Tyres’ Leicester branch. The council is also specifying the tyres as original equipment.

EC clears Trelleborg acquisition of ČGS Holding

Approval has been given for Sweden’s Trelleborg AB to acquire ČGS Holding a.s., parent company of Czech tyre maker Mitas. In a statement issued this week, the European Commission shared that its assessment of the deal focused on the extent to which the two companies’ original equipment and aftermarket activities overlapped. The Commission found that Trelleborg and Mitas agricultural tyres “focus on different price and quality tiers” and are therefore “not close competitors.”

‘T’ time – Zenises showing new brands at Reifen

Visitors to the Reifen show in Essen, Germany later this month can reckon with an expanded Zenises presence in Hall 3, the fair’s main hall. The company brags that its stand has one of the largest exhibition spaces and will display a number of tyre programmes, several of which are new to the European market.

September launch for Continental EM tyre range

Three years ago, Continental began focusing on non-automotive areas of its business in order to better balance the company’s sales footprint. An early beneficiary of this new emphasis was Continental’s Commercial Specialty Tires (CST) business, with the first investments to grow the CST portfolio directed at the port tyre segment. Now, in 2016, it is the turn of earthmover tyres, and a new EM range will be introduced later this year. As was the case with the port tyre range, the earthmover products will reflect the 2013-initiated drive to establish the Continental name as the company’s primary brand in the OTR sector.
