Landsail refreshes brand identity

Landsail Tyres has refreshed its brand, targeting both the trade and public. The brand is seeking consolidation having become a high-selling brand in the UK market; it states the brand identity will “re-affirm Landsail’s position… by showcasing [its] exceptional value for money.” The brand, produced by China’s Sentury Tire, has grown quickly, with a range spanning over 250 sizes, most recently including Landsail’s first venture into the all-season market, offering comprehensive coverage for the UK market, in which sales are thought to have reached 1.2 million. Landsail itself states that it supplies “one in every 25 tyres sold in the UK.”

KRT launches new Kingstone industrial and speciality ranges

Tyre wholesaler Kings Road Tyres (KRT) has invested in a major expansion of its Kingstone range to include over 60 new lines for ATV, turf, horticultural, agricultural, light materials handling and high speed trailer tyre applications. In addition, the new products are supported by a range of EU-manufactured tubes.

According to the company, the investment represents the most significant expansion of the brand since it was first introduced in 1987, with the new lines joining the company’s existing range of Kingstone tubes and flaps.

Maxxis plans motorcycle dealer network growth

Maxxis has announced the first in a series of strategies designed to promote the brand’s credentials to motorcyclists and grow its national dealer network. This news follows the critically acclaimed launch of the SuperMaxx ST tyre range and will see the manufacturer, and distribution partner Bickers, join forces to empower dealers to offer their customers free Motorex cleaning products worth £70 with every purchase and fitting of SuperMaxx ST tyres.

Tyre consumers increasingly choosing ‘click and fit’

Blackcircles.com, the UK’s leading online tyre retailer, reported a steep increase in sales from new customers during June. According to the company, this includes 80 per cent who have never previously bought tyres online. The metrics indicate that tyre retailing, which has traditionally lagged online adoption in other sectors like banking and travel, is going through something of a transformation.

Dunlop maintains LMP2 dominance at Le Mans 24H

Dunlop continued its success in the LMP2 category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the top seven finishers in the class using its tyres. The adaptability of Dunlop’s tyres was key to this success, as these top seven finishers included chassis from six manufacturers. Signatech Alpine took the victory, having completed 357 laps. The Dunlop tyre range is all-new for 2016 and the LMP2 tyres demonstrated the progress the brand had hoped to achieve; all teams used the same sets for four stints, while several managed to complete five – a feat Dunlop describes as a first in the modern era of sportscar racing.

First Azerbaijan grand prix won by Rosberg after high temperatures increase stops

Nico Rosberg piloted his Mercedes to a convincing win at the first grand prix in Azerbaijan. The championship leader started from pole and stopped just once, passing from supersoft to soft tyres, without ever losing the lead. While some cars were forced to stop twice due to the higher than expected temperatures, Pirelli said that tyre degradation was lower than expected. The top six finishers all started on the P Zero Red supersoft, stopping once to change to the P Zero Yellow soft tyre between laps 8 and 21. These soft tyre stints therefore lasted up to 43 laps, the number achieved by Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

Evolution in Le Mans cars matched by Michelin tyre development programme

Simplify and grow – STARCO restructures in order to increase its OE focus

Change of any sort within an organisation can be difficult, says Richard Todd, but sometimes change is necessary in order to find the right area of focus and to grow in this. Upon becoming chief executive officer of STARCO at the start of last year, Todd took over the day-to-day management of a half-century old company on the cusp of starting the sizable task of redefining its focus and long-term direction. He began working on this in close collaboration with company owner, Peer Ejlergaard. Now, some 18 months later, this direction is clearly visible. Twaron and aramid

Twaron is produced from a para-aramid that Teijin Aramid makes itself in facilities in Delfzijl and Emmen, the Netherlands using raw materials sourced from the oil industry. As explains Dr. Ir. Bert Gebben, group head of Wet Spinning within the R&D facility at the company’s headquarters in Arnhem, the para-aramid is formed through the reaction between an amine group and a carboxylic acid halide group.

Kerbs ‘welded’ following F1 tyre safety fears

Formula One’s first visit to Baku, Azerbaijan is continuing on schedule, despite concerns over cuts found on several teams’ left-rear tyres in the first free practice session. FIA F1 director Charlie Whiting told UK broadcaster Sky Sports that bolts holding together the kerbs at turns Six and 12 had “come loose”, causing the cuts. To resolve the issue, track workers have “taken the bolts out and welded the kerbs to each other.”

First Stop ‘accelerating’ expansion plans

The First Stop fast fit network states that it is accelerating its expansion plans across the UK. Currently operating 72 centres, the network said that it has recently attracted six new members. The network has also become an official supporter of TyreSafe. Pirelli Diablo Superbike takes racing slick motorcycle tyre test victory

Pirelli’s Diablo Superbike has emerged victorious from a comparative test by the German magazine PS. The magazine compared racing slicks from six different manufacturers on track at the Sachsenring circuit. The Bridgestone Battlax Racing V02, Michelin Power Slick Ultimate, Dunlop KR 106 / KR 108, Metzeler Racetec RR Slick and Continental Track were fitted to a BMW S 1000 RR model in sizes 120/70 R17 front and 200/65 R17 rear. Laufenn to be sold in 70 markets by year’s end
