Staffordshire Falken Tyre specialist welcomes SRI representatives

An award-winning AA accredited automotive centre in Cheadle, Staffordshire and Falken Tyres specialist dealer, AA Silencers has hosted an official UK visit from sixth largest global tyre manufacturer Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd (SRI), parent company of Falken. The SRI delegation visited the centre as part of an official UK trip with Micheldever Tyre Services. The visit included a tour of their premises, a meet and greet with staff, and the opportunity to discuss the impact the Falken brand has had upon AA Silencers business and their growing customer base.

Wider Bridgestone fitment providing more grip for BMW i3s

The original equipment tyre Bridgestone supplies to the BMW i3 was updated this year to accommodate the introduction of a sporty version of the car, the i3s. The new model has a broader rear track and more expansive rear wheel wells than the regular i3, and Bridgestone is supplying it with OEM tyres that are 20mm wider than the dimension it produces for the standard model.

UK launch for Camso puncture protection program

Industrial tyre users in the UK will benefit from a new service that Camso is introducing. Through its Solideal On-Site Service operation in EMEA, the company is rolling out its pneumatic Tyre Puncture Protection Program. The program centres on tyre fill solutions and aims to eliminate flat tyres while providing maximum uptime to Camso’s customers.

Sun-TWS acquires STARCO Lanka operation

The solid tyre factory established by STARCO in Sri Lanka has been divested to TVS Group company Sun Tyre & Wheel Systems (Sun-TWS) for an undisclosed sum. The STARCO Lanka facility becomes Sun-TWS’ fifth manufacturing plant and, together with expansion programmes at its existing facilities, will help increase overall capacity by 40 per cent – a measure required in order to meet growing global demand.

Hankook launches Kinergy 4S² all-season tyre

Back in 1994, a little-known tyre brand called Hankook entered the all-season market in Europe with the Optisuper. A lot has changed for the tyre maker since then, but it is still firmly in the all-season tyre business – and has now introduced its fifth-generation tyre, the Hankook Kinergy 4S².

Hankook releases new generation all-season tyre

Look carefully for the superscript – Hankook Tire has unveiled its fifth generation of all-season tyre for Europe. It’s called the Hankook Kinergy 4S², and despite the naming similarities is a completely redeveloped product. The Kinergy 4S² comes to market in June 2018 with a launch range of 17 sizes in the 14- to 17-inch rim diameter bracket. From the second half of the year, the range will be expanded to 64 sizes for 14- to 20-inches.

Thinking ahead: Hankook Tire preparing for IAA CV

Even though Hankook Tire is now – as are many within the tyre industry – making final preparations for next week’s The Tire Cologne, the tyre maker is already getting ready for the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicles fair. Offering a sneak preview of what we can expect to see this September, it shares that the show in Hannover, Germany will host the world premiere of a new Hankook mixed on- and off-road tyre line-up that includes steer, drive and trailer axle fitments. Hankook Tire also intends to announce further growth in its business with truck OEMs.

Where do the UK’s unluckiest drivers live?

Motorists from Oxford are the unluckiest drivers in the country – picking up the most punctures, dents, scrapes and parking tickets than anyone else, according to a new study. Researchers polled British drivers and discovered that people from the university city, home to Jaguar driving Inspector Morse, consider themselves to have the least luck when it comes to motoring.

MWheels to work with DfT to improve CV wheel safety

Negotiations to rectify the Department for Transport’s apparent failure to incorporate European Union Directives 2014/45/EU and 2014/47/EU into the wheel-related section of the new Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual has yielded a positive result for MWheels. The commercial vehicle wheel specialist shares that following a meeting with the DfT, DVSA and Parliamentary representative Mike Kane MP on 17 May, the DfT “has agreed to work with MWheels to investigate ways in which the Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual’s section on wheels can be enhanced to improve vehicle safety.”

Bridgestone voted Australia’s most trusted tyre brand

Australian Reader’s Digest has compiled and released its 2018 Most Trusted Brands list, and Bridgestone returns as a top-ten trusted brand. The tyre maker was ranked in tenth place across all trusted brands categories, finishing ahead of Aussie staples such as Vegemite and Aerogard. Bridgestone also claimed the title of ‘Australia’s Most Trusted Tyre Brand’ – a distinction introduced in 2014 – for the fifth consecutive year. Goodyear and Michelin were named as ‘highly recommended’ brands in the tyre category.

New look and feel for Barkley

The ‘new look’ Barkley range will be shown at The Tire Cologne next week. With a refreshed corporate identity, including a restyled barkley-tyres.com website, Barkley will exhibit at the trade fair (Hall 7.1, Stand E-020, E-028) along with its latest truck, agricultural and OTR tyres.

Truck tyre tariffs to cause shortages

On 7 May the European Commission announced that it is implementing provisional anti-dumping duties of between 52.85 euros and 82.17 euros per tyre on new and retreaded tyres imported into Europe from China. It is a landmark move that is already having a huge impact on truck tyre markets across Europe. Tyres & Accessories spoke with TYM International managing director, Steve Eke and Triangle Tyre's general manager for Europe, Corrado Moglia (representative examples of affected importers and manufacturers respectively) in order to find out more.
