Pirelli, Dunlop riders take victories in 70th edition of Motocross of Nations at Maggiora

The 1986 edition of the Motocross of Nations marked the beginning of the modern era of motocross, and 30 years later the MXoN was back on the historic ‘Mottaccio del Balmone’ track in Maggiora, attended by more than 40,000 fans on the hill at the foot of the small town in Piemonte. The national teams selected three riders each to compete for the prestigious ‘Chamberlain Trophy’. On a track characterized by a medium-hard soil, Pirelli’s riders fitted the Scorpion MX32 Mid Soft that, both front and rear, and the tyre manufacturer said it demonstrated their high level of performance.

Cooper regains global tyre social media crown

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company (@CooperTire) has regained first place in Tyres & Accessories’ annual global tyre social media ranking. The US-based tyre manufacturer topped the chart in 2014, with a score of 84. However, the company’s score decreased to 78.3 in 2015 and the firm fell back to third place. Nevertheless, this year’s score of 81.7 is enough to return Cooper to the top of the tree, with 9.65 points of clear water between it and last year’s winner Pirelli.

Dunlop leaps into the pole position in UK tyre social media ranking

Dunlop has topped Tyres & Accessories 2016 social branding table with a score of 81.55. Like our annual global tyre social branding survey, this aims to produce a meta-score based on existing social influence metrics (namely Klout and Kred), covering both contacts and interactions across the leading social media channels including – but not limited to – Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. The difference is that the UK table focuses on accounts managed in and for the UK tyre business.

Continental adds to TPMS portfolio with launch of ContiConnect

Experience with truck fleets in Germany has shown Continental that while both fleet owners and drivers appreciate the value of tyre pressure monitoring systems, more than two-thirds of all fleets don’t yet realise the full potential that digitalisation offers. The tyre maker and automotive systems provider aims to change this, and has introduced a digital product that extends the benefits delivered by ContiPressureCheck, the TPMS first introduced by Continental in 2013 and now offered in 27 markets around the world.

iTire – Continental truck tyre TPMS now available direct from the factory

Upon its launch in European markets three years ago, Continental’s new tyre pressure monitoring system was only available as a retrofit option. The availability of ContiPressureCheck has now been extended to tyres shipped straight from the factory with sensors already installed. Continental is using the name ‘iTire’ to distinguish these products from standard tyres.

IAA launch for Z Tyre truck range

The Z tyre programme, first launched two years ago, has now been expanded to include commercial vehicle tyres. These products will debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover this week and are being marketed as an economical and reliable aftermarket alternative for the truck and bus market. The Z truck tyre range consists of 26 dimensions and includes regional and long-haul fitments in sizes ranging from 17.5 to 22.5 inch fitments.

Cooper Tire reports “promising” guayule rubber test results

Scientists working on Cooper Tire & Rubber’s guayule rubber project have reportedly reached a key milestone on the path to producing, by mid-2017, a concept tyre in which guayule-based polymers replace all natural and synthetic rubbers. Their testing has shown guayule to be an effective substitute material in certain components, with tyres produced using these components offering comparative performance to their conventional counterparts.

Prospect Coaches rolls out Michelin policy

West Midlands-based Prospect Coaches has switched its fleet to a Michelin tyre policy after receiving “above and beyond” support from the Michelin technical team. Prior to adopting the new policy, the company fitted trial sets of Michelin X MultiWay 3D regional tyres; the company switched manufacturers before performance data had been recorded as a result of the tyre manufacturer’s customer service.

Trelleborg agricultural tyre roadshow to make stop in Belgium

Trelleborg has announced a new stop in Europe on its 2016 agricultural tyre roadshow. The tyre and wheel manufacturer will attend the Q-Team Demo Event in Waremme, Belgium on 17 and 18 September. Trelleborg will conduct two field demonstrations per day to showcase the benefits of a large tyre footprint in boosting the global efficiency and productivity of farming operations.
