Danijel Tomasic has been named Davanti Tyres’ sales manager for Southeast Europe and takes on responsibility for expanding the brand’s sales in the Balkan countries and the south east of Europe. He brings significant automotive aftermarket experience with him and joins Davanti from Michelin, where worked for three years as an account manager for the Croatian and Bosnian markets.

Brazilian retreading specialist Vipal Rubber has introduced a new version of its DV-RT4 line, and states that the pre-cured tread includes improvements stemming from the company’s ongoing efforts towards greater efficiency and profitability for end users. As a result of the changes made to the DV-RT4 tread, it is now also recommended for regional use as well as highway transport.
Austrian car workshop and automotive product fair AutoZum is the venue for the world premiere of the latest Vredestein tyre for the van and light truck market. Visitors to the show, which began yesterday and runs until Saturday 21 January, can view the Vredestein Comtrac 2 All Season tyre at the Apollo Vredestein stand (0702) in Hall 10.
The Marangoni Group and UAE-based conglomerate the Onyx Group, through its subsidiary Ceylon Steel Corporation (CSCL), have signed a binding Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to the industrial tyre market. Upon announcing the MoU’s signing, Marangoni states that this represents “a further step in the strategy of Onyx Group to invest in the tyre sector, with the objective of becoming the largest tyre manufacturer in Sri Lanka and serving both local and international markets.”
Reliance Sibur Elastomers Private Limited (RSEPL), a joint venture between Russian gas and petrochemicals company Sibur and India’s Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has announced plans to establish southern Asia’s first halogenated butyl rubber unit at RIL’s integrated petrochemical facility in Jamnagar, India. Halogenated butyl is a key ingredient in the manufacture of tubless tyre inner liners.
Four new sizes have joined the Nokian Heavy Tyres’ CT trailer tyre line-up, complementing the 650/55R26.5 CT tyre introduced at the Agritechnica exhibition three years ago. The new sizes –560/60R22.5, 600/50R22.5, 600/55R26.5 and 600/60R30.5 – are available as of this month.
On 5 January, Micheldever announced that it was being purchased by Sumitomo Rubber Industries of Japan (the company behind Falken, one of Micheldever’s key exclusive brands). Rosava reports selling 3.9 million tyres last year, a 45 per cent year-on-year increase on 2015. The Ukrainian tyre maker says the greatest rate of growth was witnessed in the agricultural tyre segment, where sales were up 57.6 per cent compared with 2015. Marangoni Retreading Systems has expanded its business in Spain through a new partnership with regional retreader Recauchutados Fidel. The company, which has been in the business since 1982 and operates a retreading plant and three dealers in Salamanca province, has selected Marangoni products and technology for its customers.
Cooper Tire Europe has challenged three Arsenal FC players to compete in its latest precision test: football darts. Coinciding with the BDO Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships, the official tyre partner of Arsenal set up the contest for midfielder Granit Xhaka, winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and goalkeeper Petr Čech. Starting the game with a score of 301, the players aimed the ‘dart balls’ at the giant dartboard in a race to zero, and the chance to be named Cooper’s Football Darts champion. The resulting action was recorded for the latest Cooper video to feature Arsenal (available below).
