Vredestein partners with Mille Miglia

Vredestein is a tyre brand with a pedigree stretching back to 1909, and with a range including products designed with vintage cars in mind, such as the Sprint Classic, Snow Classic, Grip Classic and Transport Classic, it sees itself having much in common with the Mille Miglia classic car rally. This affinity is now an official connection, as the two parties have entered into a sponsorship agreement covering the period from 2017 to 2019.

GT Radial hosts dealers in Algarve demonstration of flagship SportActive tyre

The GT Radial SportActive became available around a year ago as a new flagship tyre for the brand, distributed in the UK by Micheldever. Towards the end of 2016, Giti Tire held an event for its wholesale partner and a large group of its most successful dealers in Vilamoura, Portugal, with track-based demonstrations of the tyre’s capabilities at Portimao’s Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. GT Radial has leveraged a racing partnership before to market the tyre in the UK; it partnered consumer high performance driving magazine Evo for its popular 2016 series of track day events at the Bedford Autodrome, making its tyres available for amateur racing enthusiasts to try out on vehicles such as the Audi S3, Golf GTI, BMW 340i and Toyota GT86.

Design and architecture award for Apollo R&D centre

Eldan supplies Qatar’s Modern Recycling Factory

Swedish based recycling machinery maker, Eldan, has announced that it is supplying Qatar’s Modern Recycling Factory (MRF). MRF is based in Mesaieed Industrial City and is already now operational. The US$41.3 million facility was financed and endorsed more than two years ago by Al Khalij Commercial Bank in support of Qatar’s green-technology business sector.

Bridgestone announces price rise for North America

Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations intends to raise prices for car, light truck, truck/bus, OTR and agricultural tyres, as well as retread products and tubes. The new pricing for North America will take effect 1 January and will see products become up to eight per cent more expensive.

Pirelli returns to Bathurst 12 Hours – as exclusive tyre supplier

A star-studded driver line-up and some of the world’s leading supercar manufacturers will race exclusively on Pirelli tyres at the Bathurst 12 Hours in Australia this weekend. This year’s race marks the first in a three-year agreement for Pirelli to supply all competitors. Last year’s open competition was by McLaren – shod by Pirelli – and the tyre maker also claimed the top four places on the grid and recorded a new GT3 lap record.

SIMA launch for Vredestein’s “widest” sub-1250mm agri trailer tyre

The SIMA international agribusiness show in Paris will serve as a platform for Apollo Vredestein to introduce the widest available radial implement tyre with a diameter below the crucial 1,250 millimetre mark. From 26 February to 2 March, the company will showcase the 800/40 R 22.5 168D Flotation Trac radial, a product it developed with agricultural equipment manufacturers.

‘Only efficiency will save tyre distributors’ – Top 5 European tyre wholesaler Fintyre

In response to a contracting market in 2013 and 2014, Italian wholesale giant Fintyre underwent a reorganisation, involving relocation north from Empoli to Seriate, Bergamo and a staff reduction of 60 employees. The overhaul of the company structure did not end there; it started a process in 2015, completed in late 2016, which has changed the face of Fintyre. This, it states, has consolidated its position as the leader of the Italian market with a share of around 25 per cent. In 2015, British investment firm BlueGem Capital Partners, which at that point held a 90 per cent share in Fintyre after its original 2009 investment, was recapitalised following a major financing agreement with GSO Capital Partners. The company then made two major acquisitions – Pneusmarket and Franco Gomme – which have helped to increase turnover from 255 million in 2014 to an estimate of more than 400 million euros in 2016.
