Agricultural logistics co-operative signs Michelin solutions tyre management policy

The Openfield co-operative that helps harvest, store, and market crops for more than 3,500 farmers across the UK has appointed Michelin solutions to manage its tyres. The three-year, price-per-kilometre Effitires deal replaces a transactional agreement with a competing premium tyre brand, and covers Openfield’s 36 Scania and Volvo trucks, plus a mixed fleet of 46 bulk tipper trailers.

Hickleys in Taunton joins First Stop tyre retail network

First Stop has added a new outlet in Taunton, as automotive equipment supplier Hickleys joins the fast fit network. After growing to a total of 72 centres by the end of 2016, First Stop is continuing to evolve and expand via a new approach to recruitment. First Stop’s retail business consultant Ollie Turpie is targeting businesses not currently boasting a tyre retail arm. Hickleys, based in Castle Street, offers a broad range of automotive solutions, from diagnostic equipment right through to heating and air conditioning installations.

Registration for Tyre Safety Month Briefing & Awards open

TyreSafe stakeholders can now register to attend the Tyre Safety Month Briefing which will take place on Thursday 6 July at the Belfry Hotel & Resort, Wishaw in the West Midlands.

The annual event will provide an update on the latest issues affecting tyre safety awareness and will launch the materials and resources available to support 2017’s forthcoming Tyre Safety Month in October.

Ultra-Seal gains Schmitz Cargobull and Kögel as OE customers

Schmitz Cargobull and Kögel Trailer GmbH & Co. KG recently started filling tyres with Ultra-Seal from their respective trailer factories. The news comes is one of a series of announcements that show a significant jump in Ultra-Seal usage.

At the same time Ultra-Seal reports that it is “systematically acquiring full European network coverage by contracting Europart Denmark and Eurotyre Belgium for the distributorship rights for the sale of Ultra-Sea”.

Falken Azenis FK510 tyre available in 55 new sizes

From this spring, the Falken Azenis FK510 will be available in 66 sizes compared to the previous 51.

“Our addition of 56 new sizes to the Azenis FK510 range reflects the continuing popularity of our UHP tyres,” says Andreas Giese, Manager Corporate Planning at Falken Tyre Europe, about the portfolio expansion.

Ewals renews 3,550 vehicles tyre deal with Goodyear

Goodyear has renewed its tyre supply agreement with logistics service provider Ewals Cargo Care, extending a relationship that is more than 20 years old. The pan-European contract covers the supply of tyres for up to 3,000 trailers and 550 tractors as well as a full range of truck tyre support services under the Goodyear FleetFirst banner.

Pirelli supplies next-generation Solberg, as he wins on Junior BRC debut

Oscar Solberg has claimed victory on Pirelli tyres on his British Rally Championship debut. Driving a Ford Fiesta R2T, the 20-year-old Norwegian won the Junior BRC category on the opening round of the 2017 season, the Border Counties Rally in southern Scotland. Solberg is the son of World Rally Championship podium-finisher Henning and nephew of Petter, who used Pirelli tyres to become world champion in 2003 with Subaru. He is just the latest second-generation rally star to show his potential with Pirelli recently: Kalle Rovanpera, 16, last year became champion in Latvia, where Solberg’s own cousin Oliver is now also embarking on his rally career.

Pirelli ready for start of ‘revolutionary’ new era in Formula One

Pirelli’s three nominated tyre compounds will deal with new Formula One rules it states are among the most revolutionary in recent history when the 2017 season starts in Melbourne, Australia on 24-26 March. The tyres, which are 25 per cent wider, are expected to support cars that are around five seconds faster than in 2015, and have been designed with a new philosophy: the era of “planned degradation” is over, and the tyres will run with fewer temperature peaks. This should allow the drivers to push hard during every stint, Pirelli states.

Conti Hybrid drive axle tyre available as hot-retreaded ContiRe tyre

Continental has made its versatile Hybrid HD3 commercial vehicle tyre available as a ContiRe hot retread in sizes 295/80R22.5, 315/70R22.5, and 315/80R22.5. The retread has the same rubber compounds as the new tyre in both the tread and the sidewall, and retains the new tyre’s low weight, optimised rolling resistance and high ride comfort.

Renault and partners, including Michelin, introduce fuel-saving concept truck

Renault Trucks has introduced Urban Lab 2 – its distribution concept vehicle – at this year’s Pollutec at Lyon’s Eurexpo exhibition centre until December 2 2016. Developed with six partners under the collaborative Efficient Distribution Truck (EDIT) project, the vehicle combines innovative technology in aerodynamics, hybridisation of the engine, tyres and vehicle-infrastructure communication to achieve potential fuel savings of up to 13 per cent. Having partnered Renault on its Optifuel Lab 1 and 2 projects, Michelin is developing energy-saving tyres.
