Move over manic Monday, terrible Tuesdays the most common day for car accidents

Tuesdays are the most dangerous day to drive cars, according to new data analysis by LeasePlan UK. In fact, statistical analysis by the vehicle management group has found that 18 per cent of accidents involving company cars, occur on the second day of the working week. The result? Damages from fault and non-fault incidents cost companies upwards of £2.8 million over the last year, just for this day alone.

Enjoy taking orders for new Rotalla all-season range

Rotalla, which reportedly sells over 1 million tyres a year, is already taking orders for the contract tyre manufacturer’s new all season range – Setula 4-Season RA03 car tyres and Setula 4-Season RA05 (commercial vehicles). When the range is completed during the first quarter of 2019, customers will be able to choose from 100 sizes options. The Rotalla summer tyre range also offers the Setula E-Race RH01, RH02, RU01 and the F110 high-performance sports utility pattern, with both the Setula E-Race RH01 and RU01 patterns carrying impressive CB EU tyre labelling ratings.

Goodyear’s SoundComfort voted Product of the Year in Belgium, Netherlands

Goodyear’s SoundComfort has been voted Product of the Year 2019 in a consumer research survey conducted by Nielsen in Belgium and the Netherlands. The noise reduction technology aims to address consumer and market needs as a result of the decreasing noise of car engines, especially since the arrival of electric and hybrid vehicles. With less noise coming from the engine, the noise caused by tyres is becoming more noticeable.

Continental a founding partner in Extreme E off-road electric racing series

Continental is to sponsor the Extreme E off-road electric racing series. With sustainable electric SUVs and tyre technology from Continental, the new series takes participants to the most remote corners of the world. Extreme E organisers are anticipating 12 teams taking part in the inaugural season, slated to begin in exactly two years. Prototype testing is scheduled to start in April 2019 and Continental is initially a Founding Partner of Extreme E, becoming a Premium Partner in 2021.  The technology company will equip all of the cars in the races with suitable tyres for the respective terrain.

General Tire continues its product offensive with its latest summer tyre ranges for on road use – the Altimax One & Altimax One S.

According to the company, both tyres feature “the robust characteristics and high grip that General Tire is renowned for”. The latest products offer new solutions with its American heritage at its core. Rigid shoulder blocks and a continuous rib structure in the centre offer precise handling and outstanding braking on dry roads, thanks to the connected shoulder blocks and reinforced stiffness.

Pirelli’s American motorsport commitments ‘never more relevant’

Pirelli is involved in 10 major championships at the forefront of American motorsport. It commits 40 personnel to a variety of races and rallies every weekend, supplying tens of thousands of tyres. The scale of Pirelli’s competition involvement this year in North America shows, the company states, that motorsport on the continent has never been more relevant. This is because motorsport represents a part of the Italian company’s research and development for ultra-high performance tyres – an “open-air testing laboratory,” in its words – pushing the extremes of performance on track to create products for the road.

The thinking behind Bridgestone’s TomTom Telematics acquisition

Bridgestone’s successful acquisition of TomTom Telematics follows earlier reports that both Michelin and Bridgestone were vying to buy the Telematics business unit from Netherlands-based company TomTom. In addition, according to Dutch financial daily Het Financieele Dagblad, Michelin was one of four in the running. For its part, Michelin was allegedly aiming to add the business into its Michelin Solutions portfolio. Clearly, in order to maintain its original plans and to compete with Bridgestone, Michelin will now have to find an alternative way of moving forward.

Michelin TPMS – Bike launched to protect riders from risk of tyre failures

British technology firm Fit2Go TPMS, a global licensee for Michelin, has launched its first tyre pressure monitoring system for motorcycles, mopeds and scooters – introducing new levels of safety for riders for whom tyre condition is critical. The Michelin TPMS – Bike is a ‘plug & play’ retrofit kit that comes as standard with a magnetic display mount, inductive charger and two sensors, replacing the original valve caps. It brings the same direct TPMS technology already launched for the passenger car and commercial vehicle markets to two-wheels for the first time.

Falken specialist Walsall Wood Tyre & Service promotes tyre safety

Walsall Wood Tyre & Service, a Falken Tyre specialist based on Hall Lane Industrial Estate, Walsall, held a tyre safety check in December at The Fairlawns Hotel and Spa, in Aldridge, for all staff and patrons. The event at the award-winning independent hotel was the first in a series of safety initiatives within Walsall Wood’s local community.
