C2C certification for Klean Industries’ pyrolysis plant

Canada-based gasification and pyrolysis waste conversion technologies provider Klean Industries Inc. shares that one of its facilities has become the world’s first tyre pyrolysis plant to receive Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certification. This C2C certification by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry LLC follows a 12-month study of the Klean Industries production process and the end uses of the recycled carbon and oil products that derive from it.

Auto Express tests aftermarket TPMS

Traction the key to Bahrain grand prix – F1 exclusive tyre supplier, Pirelli

Formula One’s teams will use the same three compounds selected for China at Bahrain’s Sakhir circuit: the P Zero Red supersoft, P Zero Yellow soft, and P Zero White medium. Knowing the track as a favoured year-round test venue for various series, Pirelli states that it will above all test traction, especially since it is the first of three scheduled night races for the 2017 season.

Full range gives Davanti more scope for new markets

The long-awaited Davanti winter range will soon be with us. When Tyres & Accessories caught up with the Davanti Tyres team at Tyrexpo Asia, they reported that final testing had been successfully concluded and volume production was scheduled to commence in June. After two years of development, four winter patterns – PCR, UHP, SUV and van – are now ready, with a total of 52 sizes to be released in 2017.

Goodyear benefitting from tyre industry trends, says Kramer

During the company’s annual shareholder meeting yesterday, Richard Kramer stated that trends within the global tyre industry are playing to Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s strengths and its strategy to drive profitable growth. This growth, he added, is best represented within the consumer tyre business by the rising demand for tyres with 17-inch and larger rim diameters – the market for this segment has doubled since 2010 and is expected to double again by 2020.

Kwik Fit: Blue light a good tyre care example

Although the legal tread depth limit is 1.6mm, only 16 per cent of the UK’s ‘blue-light’ services allow the tread on their emergency vehicles’ tyres to go below 2.5mm of tread before being changed. In fact, Kwik Fit claims that on average the emergency services change their vehicle tyres at a tread depth of 2.74mm.

Trinseo president wins leadership award

The Chemical Marketing and Economics (CME) group of the American Chemical Society’s New York Section and materials company Trinseo have announced that Christopher Pappas, Trinseo’s president and CEO, will receive the Leadership Award for Outstanding Corporate Reinvention on 5 December 2017 at the New York Metropolitan Club.

Pappas was instrumental in tripling Trinseo’s value in the last three years through visionary leadership and focus on safety, technology, financial discipline and growth, the company said.

Micheldever backs ProMOTe and urges tyre industry to sign MOT petition

Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS) has thrown its weight behind a cross-industry campaign to encourage a government rethink on proposed changes to current MOT legislation. It is also calling on all involved in the tyre industry to make their voices heard via an official petition.

MTS, the UK’s second largest distributor of tyres, is backing the ProMOTe campaign, which has been re-established in response to the government’s plan to extend the time allowed before the first MOT of a car or motorcycle’s life from three years to four.

Continental: Total Lousado investment to reach €150M

Continental is to realise a substantial increase in production capacity at its tyre plant in Lousado, Portugal. The company’s Tire division intends to invest a total of some €150 million by the end of 2018. The aim is not only to further expand annual passenger car tyre production capacity from its current level of approximately 18 million units, but also to set up a production facility for agricultural tyres in Lousado. At present, production at the site mainly focuses on standard car van and light commercial vehicle tyres.

The US, India, Japan, China and South Korea are the prominent countries for the automotive sector and account more than 50 per cent of the global commercial and personal vehicle production in 2015. Vredestein introduces Mille Miglia edition Sprint Classic tyre

The recently-announced partnership between the Vredestein tyre brand and the Mille Miglia classic car rally has led to the creation of a new, limited edition tyre, the Sprint Classic. The size 165 HR 15 tyre features the Mille Miglia logo on the sidewall, and was unveiled, fitted to a Porsche 356 pre-A, at the Techno Classica car show in Germany yesterday.
