Prinx Chengshan breaks ground on Thailand tyre plant project

A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the new Prinx Chengshan Thailand factory in the WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate EISE 3 in Chonburi. The new plant is amongst the first to be set up in the industrial park, and Prinx Chengshan notes that a launching ceremony for the park was held today.

Linglong Tire begins Serbia factory project

A ceremony has taken place to mark the start of work on Linglong Tire’s new tyre factory in Serbia. Company chairman and chief executive officer Wang Feng greeted guests at the site of the future plant on 29 and 30 March to launch the new subsidiary, Linglong International Europe D.O.O. Zrenjanin (LLIE), and to hold the tyre maker’s global partner conference.

Dunlop’s Edouard Carpentier on niche markets, motorsport & innovation

Numerous niche subcategories now exist within key segments of the motorcycle market, a phenomenon mirroring the high proportion of bike owners riding for pleasure. Bridgestone supports Stratford School road safety initiative

Road safety is child’s play at one Warwickshire Primary School, thanks to a donation from Bridgestone. The tyre manufacturer gave £350 to Stratford-upon-Avon Primary School to allow the school to become Warwickshire Road Safety Club members.

BFGoodrich launches Off-Road Centre network in Ireland

BFGoodrich is expanding its pan-European Off-Road Centre network into Ireland, initially working with 13 dealer partners in this market. Representatives from the dealerships – which BFGoodrich chose on the basis of their off-road tyre expertise – recently attended a launch event for the network in County Kildare.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions wins at International Bus Sustainability Awards 2019

The Goodyear Drive-Over-Reader, an automated tyre analysis and control system, has won first place at the International Bus Sustainability Awards in the ‘Tyres and Tyre Management’ category. The awards honour innovative companies and products that address the challenges of global sustainability. Thomas Sauer, marketing specialist for Goodyear Proactive Solutions EMEA received the award for Goodyear at the award ceremony in Berlin on 18 March, 2019.

Official opening for Continental’s Thailand tyre plant

Continental’s new tyre making facility in Thailand is officially up and running. A ceremony was held yesterday to mark the occasion, with around 500 people present to mark inauguration of the 250-million-euro greenfield factory in Rayong. Production will now be ramped up to provide a capacity to manufacture some four million passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyres by 2022. These tyres will be sold locally and throughout the entire APAC region.

Although tyre tests cover everything from handling to comfort and fuel consumption, the value of a tyre’s role in bringing a vehicle to a safe stop can’t be underestimated. ETRMA targets early 2020 for new EU Tyre Labelling Regulation

The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) is ready to enter the final phase of the review on the 2009 EU Tyre Labelling Regulation, following the outcome of the European Parliament plenary vote to replace the existing regulation. The association said that “an improved Regulation” could be adopted in early 2020, should the new European Parliament move the file into trilogues in the second half of 2019. ETRMA added that it is pleased with the commitment and efforts by the European Institutions to pursue a new Tyre Labelling Regulation, as it “increases consumer awareness of the label and strengthens market surveillance and enforcement in EU Member States.”

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service chooses Michelin tyre policy

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service will fit Michelin tyres across its 100 heavy fire appliances, in the service’s first major tyre policy change in 20-plus years. Its vehicles are used to respond to around 3,200 fires, 500 road traffic collisions and 500 other emergency incidents annually. The new tyre policy mirrors that operated by the two other Fire and Rescue Authorities in Wales. The Michelin X Multi Z all-position tyres will be supplied and fitted by Tructyre ATS, with a small amount of fitment work undertaken by the service’s own in-house workshops, on a predominantly 15-tonne Volvo truck fleet.

Michelin launches bespoke training offer to support dealer partners

Huw Lewis Tyres has become the first Michelin Auto Professional (MAP) dealer to benefit from bespoke new training. Michelin is delivering custom on-site coaching in a ‘real-world’ environment to help advocate dealers enhance customer offer and boost sales. The new training is available to the MAP network in the UK and Ireland during 2019, with the local Michelin territory business manager working closely with owners to focus training where it can have the biggest impact.

ContiLogger: Consultancy using OTR tyre & vehicle telemetry

A new service concept from Continental is expected to act as a step forward towards greater servitisation, the development of revenues from services. The concept is called ContiLogger, and it incorporates tyres, hardware, software and data. Continental will present ContiLogger at next month’s Bauma show.

Quatrac Pro: “fully focused” on UHP segment

Growth within the all-season tyre segment is brisk. These tyres hold around ten per cent of the consumer replacement market in Europe, and sales are rising by almost 20 per cent year-on-year. Figures for the UK market are broadly similar. Runabouts and smaller SUVs have driven most activity within the segment to-date, yet Vredestein believes demand exists and is increasing further up the automotive food chain. To cater for this anticipated demand, it has introduced an all-season tyre specifically developed for performance vehicles.

Michelin selling online in China with JD.com

Motorists in China can now buy Michelin tyres online thanks to an expansion of Michelin China’s partnership with JD.com, the country’s largest retailer. JD.com has launched a first-party flagship store on its platform. The newly-extended partnership will also see Michelin and JD.com integrate their offline automotive service networks; consumers buying Michelin tyres on JD.com will be given priority to choose service networks such as TyrePlus for fitment.
