Nexion Group and Bright Technology form joint venture

During May’s Autopromotec, leading Italian garage machinery firm Nexion Group and Chinese garage equipment-maker Bright Technology announced that they have formed a joint venture.

According to the two companies, the two firms have formed a third company that will allow Bright and the Nexion Group to “assert itself as a leader in the industry and be active on all global markets with a full range in all product segments from the top of the range to the entry level”.

Dörr Motorsport and Giti Tire achieve unexpected 2nd in class at Nürburgring 24h

Giti Tire participated in the 45th ADAC Zurich 24h Race at the Nürburgring partnership with Team Dörr, one of Germany’s most experienced motorsport companies, finishing second in the SP8 class and 40th overall. Its fastest lap time was 09:11.087 minutes. The team’s Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo gained pole position in its class after qualifying but had its winning chances snatched away with a broken drive shaft with two hours remaining. The relationship with Team Dörr dates back to January 2017.

Autogem managing director new NTDA National chairman

On Wednesday 7 June, at its AGM held during Automechanika Birmingham 2017, the NTDA installed Prashant Chopra, managing director of Autogem Invicta Ltd as its new national chairman.

Prashant takes over from Roger Griggs communications director of European Tyre Enterprises Ltd, who has served for an extended period of three years in order to support the implementation and execution of the three-year strategic plan introduced by the association’s chief executive Stefan Hay in 2014.

McCloskey and Elliott are Severn Valley stars

Connor McCloskey claimed outright victory on Pirelli tyres at the Severn Valley Stages, round three of the Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Championship. Co-driven by John Rowan, McCloskey led throughout in his Ford Fiesta WRC, winning by 45 seconds at the finish in Builth Wells. Charlie Payne finished second in another Pirelli-equipped Fiesta WRC.

European manufacturing advantages outweigh lower Far Eastern prices: Wolfrace

British supplier Wolfrace Wheels has been designing, manufacturing and selling advanced alloy wheels since 1971, seeing a great deal of evolution in the country’s aftermarket. From slot mag-shod Bedford CFs in the mid-1970s via Voodoo equipped Escort RS Turbos in the late 1990s to the present day, Wolfrace has remained a supporter of British design and engineering. While many aftermarket wheels now enter the market from plants in the Far East, and indeed Wolfrace itself has manufactured there in the past, the company has taken the decision to bring its entire manufacturing programme back to Europe. Tyres & Accessories spoke to Barney Britton, managing director of Wolfrace Wheels, about what inspired the company to take this decision.

Cooper Tire 4×4 ambassador Foj honoured with Dakar Legend status – video

Cooper Tire 4×4 ambassador and 27-time Dakar Rally entrant, Xavi Foj, has become one of only six competitors to be honoured with Dakar Legend status. During his Dakar Rally career, Foj has secured two victories, nine podium finishes and has an impressive run of 13 consecutive finishes to his name. Top 10 finish for Falken at the Nürburgring 24 hours

Falken Motorsport achieved eighth place overall at the 45th ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24h race with its new BMW M6 GT3. The Sumitomo global brand’s motorsport division makes the race one of the flagship events in its promotional calendar, and added a second car to its team for the 2017 edition. Falken’s newest addition, competing at the endurance race for the first time in the company’s colours, was the third-best BMW home after a collision on Saturday evening led to the retirement of its Porsche 911 GT3 after completing just 26 laps.

CAM commits to further investment

CAM has committed to “major investment over the next 18 months” during the sixth UniSerV User Group (UUG) meeting in Birmingham. The systems provider said new investment would “ensure commercial service providers maximise their efficiencies and gain incremental business opportunities” presented through its new fleet management enhancements and system reporting tools.

Pyrolyx signs US plant construction deals

Munich-based recovered carbon black (rCB) manufacturer Pyrolyx has signed two agreements that will advance plans to construct a rCB plant in Terre Haute, Indiana, USA.

The company has signed a multi-year supply agreement in the US with an unnamed masterbatch manufacturer that calls for Pyrolyx to supply rCB sourced from end-of-life tyres for use in colourants, special effects and additives that go into masterbatch. The deal involves securing long-term supply with a price advantage, Pyrolyx said.

Vettel wins one of Monaco’s fastest ever grands prix

Sebastian Vettel won one of the fastest ever Monaco grands prix, using a one-stop strategy. The Ferrari driver used Pirelli’s P Zero Purple ultrasoft and Red supersoft tyres in the expected fastest strategy, running a longer – and faster – first stint than teammate Kimi Raikkonen, who qualified on pole and finished second. A similar strategy was employed by Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo to make up two places from his grid position and claim a podium finish.

Linglong considering European factory

Shandong province, China-based Linglong Tires is considering a European factory. In the wake of media reports, Tyres & Accessories spoke with company representatives and learnt that a number of locations in both Eastern and Western Europe are being considered.
