Le Mans 24 Hours: Dunlop reviews ‘race of the century’

Dunlop’s Le Mans 24 Hours 2017 is one to remember with records broken, overall race laps led, and overall podiums in addition to the more typical class wins and podiums, in a race with high temperatures testing cars and drivers. Track temperatures exceeded 50 degrees towards the end of Sunday’s race in France’s Sarthe region.

Millbrook expanding Test World facilities in Finland

Millbrook Group is to expand its Test World site in Finland, which will see it become Europe’s leading location for tyre testing. The project will increase the capacity for testing on natural snow and ice, and introduce wet and dry braking, aquaplaning and split friction surfaces. News of the expansion project was announced on 12 June.

Nokian launching E-Truck all-season tyre range

The new E-Truck range from Nokian Tyres will come to market this autumn and be available in “the most common European truck and bus tyre sizes,” the tyre maker reports. Steer, drive and trailer fitments will be offered, and a line of retreading materials, Nokian E-tread, will complement the E-Truck range.

New Continental TractorMaster size

Continental Commercial Specialty Tyres (CST) has expanded its terminal tyre portfolio with the addition of a new TractorMaster size. The company’s Petaling Jaya industrial tyre factory in Malaysia began producing the TractorMaster in size 280/75 R 22.5 in April.

TyreClick reports best ever online sales month for independents

TyreClick, the website developed by Micheldever Tyre Services to help its independent customers compete for internet driven business has reported a record 29 per cent surge in sales volumes during May, making May the best recorded since the Tyreclick portal was launched.

NTDA: over 4000 commercial tyre technicians hold REACT licences

Since the launch of the Roadside Emergency Action Concerning Technicians (REACT) scheme in 2011 more than 4000 commercial tyre technicians have registered with the NTDA been trained, assessed as competent and issued with a Licence to Work Safely at the Roadside across the UK and, more recently, the Republic of Ireland.

Metzeler reports with pride that its Roadtec 01 has been voted the Best Sports Touring Tyre by Motorcycle News for the second consecutive year. The publication evaluated eight sports touring tyres at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, and published the results of this test in its 7 June 2017 issue.

Video: Vincent van Goor explains Dunlop LMP2 tyre development for Le Mans

Dunlop has released a new video with senior engineer, racing car tyre development, Vincent van Goor explaining its tyre development ahead of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. A record number of LMP2 cars will compete on the manufacturer’s rubber – 22 of the 25 entrants. All of the cars are racing on the La Sarthe track for the first time courtesy of new regulations for 2017. The race starts at 15:00 CEST on Saturday 17 June.

Trelleborg joins NTDA

Trelleborg Industrial and Construction Tyres has joined the NTDA both as a supplier member and as a full member under the UK network of centres in its ‘Interfit’ service division.

Trelleborg Industrial and Construction Tyres is a global manufacturer of premium quality tyres and has developed extensive product ranges to serve both solid and pneumatic tyre requirements within these sectors. The UK operation has two distinct channels with very different customer bases and varying requirements. A major part of the business is to supply and fit tyres through its Interfit service division, where the customer base predominantly consists of Forklift Truck manufacturers and their dealer networks. In addition, Trelleborg has developed a facility to supply tyres to the replacement market where the majority of customers in this channel are tyre dealers and distributors. Although the vast majority of products are fitted to Forklift trucks, it also supplies and fits tyres to ground support equipment such as airport vehicles, reach stackers and container handlers.

MWheels brand signifies evolution to more corporate business approach

With the recruitment of a new layer of management completed over the last 12 months, Manchester based commercial wheel supplier Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD), best known as the distributor of Xlite and Xlite+ forged aluminium wheels, signalled its intention to raise its profile and to convey an impression of the additional expertise now offered by the company.
