New Firestone tyre joins premium Bridgestone option in all-season portfolio

Firestone launched the second generation of its new all-season touring tyre, the Multiseason earlier in the year. Accommodating a wide variety of cars and drivers, the tyre joins other recent models, such as Roadhawk and Vanhawk 2, supplied by the Bridgestone brand to offer reliable tyres at a value price point. Australia set to ban waste tyre exports

The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) held its 47th general meeting on 9 August in Cairns. According to officials, it was the first time COAG has been held outside a capital city. A number of policy decisions were made, including that Australia should ban the export of waste tyres.

Delticom reports stable profits for H1 2019

Delticom AG has managed to maintain its gross profit level in the first half of the year despite a slight decrease in sales compared with the prior-year period. Revenues amounted to 285 million euros in the six months to 30 June 2019, 2.1 per cent less year-on-year. Gross profit was 76.9 million euros, nearly unchanged compared to the previous year; stable profits and lower sales meant that the gross margin slightly grew to 21.9 per cent (H1 2018: 21.7%).

BKT: No USA plant for the “foreseeable future”

The likelihood of seeing BKT tyres ‘Made in the USA’ appears even more uncertain following an earnings call held by Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) on 13 August. Although the tyre maker reported three days earlier that the 20,000 tonne per annum factory project was just “in abeyance”, comments made during the call suggest the pause on work is more than temporary.

Kumho partners with German football club Bayer 04 Leverkusen

New Zealand planning regulated ELT stewardship

The New Zealand government is looking to introduce a regulated product stewardship scheme for end of life tyres (ELTs) that places financial responsibility upon importers and retailers to ensure their products are recycled. Tyres are one of six priority products identified by the country’s Ministry for the Environment. The ministry is seeking consultation on proposed guidelines for regulatory product stewardship schemes and is accepting submissions until 4 October.
