Carlisle TyrFil: New name for Accella Tire Fill Systems

Carlisle Construction Materials has changed the name of its polyurethane tyre fill business from Accella Tire Fill Systems to Carlisle TyrFil. The retitling brings the name of the business, which Carlisle acquired as part of its purchase of the Accella Performance Materials family of companies in November 2017, in line with the business’s original and best-known product range.

CITExpo 2019: Visitors, exhibitors responding ‘energetically’ to challenging market

Tyres & Accessories has attended and participated in the China International Tire Expo (CITExpo) for much of its 16 years. During this time, we’ve witnessed the trade fair’s evolution in a changing tyre market, and did so again in August when we returned to the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center for this year’s show.

Swiss ‘eRod’ maker chooses Hankook as tyre partner

Hankook Tire has signed a partnership agreement with the Swiss company Kyburz. The first project under this agreement will be to fit Kyburz’s eRod roadster with ultra-high-performance tyres from the Ventus line. The road-legal electric sports car will be equipped with the Ventus V12 evo 2 in size 195/50R15 V. Hankook also becomes the recommended replacement tyre brand for the eRod.

Kumho synergies & new growth: Doublestar benefitting from acquisitions

It was a difficult birth. As regular visitors to this site are well aware, Qingdao Doublestar Co Ltd.’s acquisition of Kumho Tire was punctuated by more than its share of complications: Threats of mass resignations, bickering over brand name use and questions about financing all belonged to the experience.

Michelin tops Tyrepress UK social media ranking 2019

Not only did the @MichelinTyre-based chart see Bibendum plant its flag at the top of the tree, it also shows that the French tyre manufacturer is extending its lead. According to the 2019 data, Michelin’s overall score of 86.5 is now 7.5 points clear of second place as opposed to 6.5 points last year. It is also worth mentioning that Michelin demonstrates the best parity between the Klear and RightRelevance social metrics as well as the smallest gap between its primary and secondary RightRelevance sub-topics. In addition, with 84 points, Michelin achieved the highest score on the “Tire Industry” RightRelevance sub-topic (see below for details on how we calculated our score and what these terms mean).

Continental bringing intelligent tyre, technologies to Agritechnica

The bag of goodies Continental is bringing to Agritechnica 2019 includes a new intelligent tyre that’ll be unveiled during the show. The TractorMaster H – the suffix stands for Hybrid – is equipped with VF technology and sensors that continuously measure and monitor tyre pressure and temperature. Continental is introducing the TractorMaster H in response to the trend towards fully-automated agricultural vehicles and machinery that rely upon component monitoring systems. It comments that the use of smart tyres increases productivity, yield, and operator comfort while reducing fuel consumption, tyre wear, and downtime and maintenance costs.

Bridgestone discusses its ‘multifaceted’ fleet customer approach

Far from there being one trump card to keep commercial fleets happy and content, Bridgestone believes there are a number of compelling factors that combine to keep its customers on the right road. Bridgestone’s commercial sales director Greg Ward tells Tyres & Accessories that a number of factors combine to make Bridgestone a top proposition to commercial fleets. The manufacturer has invested in digital mobility solutions, while its latest tyres for the segment introduce improved fuel efficiency and durability characteristics.

Winter specialist Nokian ‘missed the point’ in ams tyre test

Auto motor und sport has taken a look at winter tyres for compact SUVs in its latest comparative test. The tyre size it evaluated is 215/55 R17, a dimension worn by the VW T-Roc test vehicle as well as the Audi Q2, Fiat 500x, Hyundai Kona and others. The German magazine’s experts subjected 11 brands of tyre to various tests in wet, dry and snow conditions, with performance in each of these three areas contributing 30 per cent to the final result. The remaining ten per cent came from rolling resistance and tyre/road noise performance.

Giti extends VW MQB-A0 platform OE supply with T-Cross fitment

Giti Tire will supply the GitiSynergyE1 in size 205/60R16 92H to the VW T-Cross. The T-Cross is built for the European market on the MQB-A0 small car platform in Pamplona, Spain alongside the Seat Arona Compact Crossover and VW Polo, for which the tyre manufacturer already supplies OE tyres in the same pattern.

3 new Michelin Auto Professional centres in Scotland

Michelin has added three new Michelin Auto Professional (MAP) centres in Scotland. Abbotsinch Tyres & Exhausts, in Kilmarnock, Skidz, in Falkirk, and Stewartry Tyres Newton Stewart, based on the Creeside Industrial Estate in Newton Stewart, have all been added to the network. MAP advocate dealerships get access to free on-site staff training and participation in Michelin’s mystery shopper programme, among other advantages. Michelin will also audit the centres’ digital presence while imparting advice on maximising all online opportunities; MAPS can also access TyreAssist for their customers, protecting new Michelin or BFGoodrich tyres purchased with free 24/7 roadside assistance.

GRI acquires Nortire OU

Sri Lanka-based speciality tyre manufacturer GRI reports that it has acquired the Estonia-based Nortire Group. Headquartered in Estonia, with a branch in Latvia and two branches in Lithuania, Nortire is a speciality tyre distributor. According to GRI, the acquisition will further expand the GRI’s global tyre service network, while attaining a significant foothold in the North European tyre market. The news follows a non-acquisition Middle East strategic partnership with Al-Dobowi in April 2019.
