Goodyear Dunlop winter strength proven by recent tyre test wins

Goodyear Dunlop’s twin premium brands have proven their winter performance in recent tyre tests conducted by GTÜ/ACE, ADAC/TCS and ÖAMTC. In all three tests, Dunlop’s Winter Sport 5 (SUV) and Goodyear’s UltraGrip Performance Gen-1 took first and second place respectively.

Dunlop’s global motorsport family unites to help Macmillan

The global Dunlop Motorsport organisation has taken part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – dubbed Dunlop’s Fastest Coffee Morning in recognition of the participation of sporting stars – to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, the brand’s corporate charity. The events taking place today (Friday 29 September) included contributions from Drivers and team members from the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series.

Strong growth continues in 4×4/SUV tyre market

Earlier in the year, Tyres & Accessories visited the Goodyear Innovation Center Luxembourg, where the manufacturer focused on the current SUV and 4×4 segment. Growth in sales of these vehicles has been robust for a considerable period; Goodyear representatives cited IHS Automotive EMEA region figures that suggest sales of new SUVs are expected to exceed 6 million units in 2017, up from fewer than 4 million five years ago, with further growth projected to produce regional sales at 8 million new SUVs in 2022. The SUV/4×4 tyre market is, of course, following suit: in Europe (including Turkey), ETRMA Europool data projects sales of 18 million in 2017.

Superbike World Championship extends Pirelli official tyre supplier contract to 2020

Pirelli’s contract with promoter-organiser Doma and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) to be the official tyre supplier to the Superbike World Championship for all classes has been extended by two years to cover the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The technical partnership between the Italian tyre manufacturer and the production bike based series, which started in 2004, is the longest running control tyre supply deal in international motorsport history. The previous contract was due to expire at the end of the 2018 season.

Michelin tops online brand prominence table

Michelin has taken first place in Tyres & Accessories annual online brand prominence table, conducted in association with analysts NetNames. Following the news that Michelin is the strong online brand in terms of social media equity both in the UK and globally, the French tyre maker is no doubt delight to continue its historically strong showing. However, for the second year in a row, Continental overtook Michelin in terms of brand sentiment. And when you consider that Continental is also Michelin’s main contender in terms of social media equity, it now appears that pole position in the online space is a two horse race between Michelin and Continental. That’s said, at the other end of the spectrum mid-range and economy brands have registered some significant increases in online brand prominence during the last 12 months.

Giti wins first VW Group original equipment deal in Europe

Giti Tire has won its first European original equipment contract for the Volkswagen Group. The manufacturer will supply its GitiSynergyE1 for the Seat Ibiza in size 185/70R14 88H. Giti Tire Europe managing director for product technology, Stefan Fischer stated that the new approval “underlines our ambition for the OE segment,” in addition to the “outstanding work” of the company’s Hanover-based European R&D centre.

Michelin tops UK social media ranking

In addition topping the global table, Michelin found pole position in Tyres & Accessories’ 2017 UK social media ranking. At the same time Cooper and Bridgestone climbed four and three places respectively, making these two manufacturers the table’s fastest risers.

India introduces Chinese anti-dumping tariffs

India’s Ministry of Finance has imposed an anti-dumping duty on truck and bus radial (TBR) tyres imported from China. The duty ranges from $245.35 – $452.33 per ton, according to a notification from the Central Board Excise and Customs (CBEC), and has been applied to “new pneumatic radial tyres with or without tubes and/or flap of rubber (including tubeless tyres) having nominal rim diameter code above 16 (inch)”.

Continental participates in parliamentary review

Continental Tyres has been selected to share its expertise in the Government’s Parliamentary Review 2016/17. The Parliamentary Review launched officially at the House of Commons On Tuesday 19 September. The contribution from Continental appears alongside a foreword by the Prime Minister and other senior parliamentarians.
