Corghi’s Touchless balancers, changers demonstrate Rema Tip Top ‘added value’

Rema Tip Top Automotive UK’s fourth consecutive Aftermarket Equipment Supplier of the Year Tyre Industry Award was a testament to its “great working partnerships and mutual value added benefits and expertise,” according to group CEO Mark Insley. In its capital equipment portfolio, the company supplies Corghi garage equipment, including the brand’s latest Touchless line of wheel service equipment for all ranges of tyre changers, wheel balancers and wheel aligners, demonstrating such added value partnerships. Rema Tip Top states that Corghi’s latest products “guarantee extreme professionalism”, as they concentrate on the wheel alone without touching the rim and/or the tyre, depending on the product line, during any procedure.

More overtaking and intelligent tyrecraft – Hankook’s DTM slick for 2017

The conclusion of this year’s DTM season left fingernails bitten down to the quick. With no less than six potential candidates in the running to claim the touring car series, the question as to who’d finish on top of the drivers’ championship table stayed open right until the chequered flag waved the end of play at the Hockenheimring circuit. In the end, honours went to Audi works driver René Rast, whose second-placed finish on the day pushed his season tally to 179 points, three points ahead of incumbent championship leader and fellow Audi pilot Mattias Ekström and six ahead of British driver Jamie Green, whose hopes of a championship win were dealt a stinging blow the previous day through a ten-place grid penalty for the final race.

Continental the official partner of Tour de France

From the beginning of 2018, Continental will be an official partner of the Tour de France. This means from 2018 onward, for an initial five-year period, all official support vehicles – cars, vans and motorcycles – at the Tour de France will be equipped with Continental tyres. The sponsorship agreement was officially confirmed by Christian Prudhomme, general director Tour de France, and Nikolai Setzer, Member of the Executive Board of Continental AG.

Pirelli returning to WRC in 2018

Following a year off in 2017, Pirelli will return to the World Rally Championship from next year. The tyre maker has already homologated new products for the latest generation of WRC car as well as the feeder WRC2 category. In addition, from next year Pirelli also commences exclusive tyre supply for the Junior World Rally Championship, a series dedicated to drivers born later than 1 January 1989 and contested using identical R2-class Ford Fiestas. The winner will become the owner of a brand-new Fiesta R5 together with a tyre, fuel and free rally entries package towards the 2019 WRC2 season.

Giti Tire gains two MGTS Asia supplier awards

At its inaugural Asia Supplier Award ceremony on 21 November, car accessory sourcing, development and supply specialist MGTS honoured Giti Tire Corporation as ‘Best Spare Parts & Tires Supplier’ and also named it recipient of its ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility’ accolade. By taking home two of the nine awards given out at the ceremony, Giti Tire notes that it finished “above many other leading global tyre and automotive supply manufacturers.”

Falken, Liverpool FC discuss tyre-football partnership and synergies

Falken's status as the official tyre partner of Liverpool Football Club is one of the latest in an extended series of tyre and football partnerships. Tyres & Accessories took the opportunity of Falken’s first event at Anfield to ask director and senior executive officer, Sumitomo Rubber Industries Yutaka Kuroda and chief commercial officer and managing director at Liverpool FC Billy Hogan to illustrate how the partnership will be used to benefit both parties. In addition to the particular synergies between the club and tyre brand, their answers also illustrate why there has been such a boom in partnerships between top-tier football clubs and tyres in recent years.

irtec Tyre gains momentum

In January, Bridgestone became the first organisation to trial the new tyre accreditation scheme, irtec Tyre, by testing technicians on their practical and theoretical skills. Now Tructyre and leading coach firms have announced that they have adopted the standard too.

Tructyre, the well-known Tyre fleet management specialist, has become the latest organisation to trial irtec Tyre, with four technicians at the Ashford depot accredited in recent months, and John Brand, group operations manager, believes the scheme will thrive due to the impartiality of its assessments.

Michelin renews Formula E partnership, working on all-new tyre

Three seasons of exclusive tyre supply to the FIA Formula E Championship are already under Michelin’s belt and a fourth begins tomorrow. We can look forward to at least four more years of Michelin supply to the electric race series as well; the tyre maker and the FIA have announced an extension of the supply agreement up to the end of the 2020/21 season. Furthermore, while the Pilot Sport EV2 tyre launched at the start of season three returns for 2017/18, the French manufacturer confirms it is already working on tyres for the new-look next generation car, which will make its debut a year from now in season five.

Yokohama Rubber praises UK subsidiary for awarded tyre safety work

Yokohama Rubber has expressed its pride in two awards its UK sales and marketing subsidiary, Yokohama H.P.T. Ltd. (YHPT), has gained this year – the Tyre Manufacturer of the Year award presented by TyreSafe in July and the Industry Marketing Campaign of the Year award gained at the 2017 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards ceremony in October.

Driving in snow is nerve-racking for majority of motorists finds Goodyear

With the Met Office issuing yellow warnings for icy patches and snow, driving conditions are set to deteriorate and there could be severe disruption to the daily commute. According to research commissioned by Goodyear Tyres UK, over half (53 per cent) of motorists surveyed say they find driving in the snow and ice nerve-racking, with a further 48 per cent listing de-icing wind screens in the mornings as a problem.

Jiangsu General seeking to leverage IPO for export growth

In August Chinese tyre manufacturer Jiangsu General Science Technology Co. Ltd established a base in the USA. At the same businesses unfamiliar with the firm took an interest. With this in mind, during a recent visit to China, Tyres & Accessories met with Jiangsu General general manager Wang Xiao Jun in order to find out more about the company.
