Sport sponsorship: Continental official partner, tyre of Giro d’Italia

Continental has become the official tyre of the Giro d’Italia as part of a three-year agreement signed with organiser RCS Sport that sees the tyre maker also take on the role of official partner to the cycling Grand Tour race. As official tyre partner, Continental will collaborate with Shimano to supply both bicycle and car tyres for the neutral technical assistance team.

Bridgestone opens full-time commercial tyre training facility at Horiba Mira

USTMA admits Giti Tire as member; Enki Tan joins Board of Directors

Giti Tire has become a member of the US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), and Enki Tan, president and chief executive officer of Giti Tire, has been elected to the organisation’s Board of Directors. The tyre maker’s entry into the association was unanimously approved at the USTMA annual spring meeting earlier this month.

Michelin takes home more JD Power silverware

The results of the JD Power 2018 US Original Equipment Tire Satisfaction Study have been released, and the winner is…Michelin. The tyre maker received top customer satisfaction scores in all four segments of the study for the second consecutive year. Michelin’s total tally since the study began in 1989 is 88 awards, more than the number received by any other tyre manufacturer.

Maxxis Victra Sport 5 set for Cologne launch

Maxxis is heading to the Tire Cologne show (29 May to 01 June) ready to show off one of the most innovative tyres it has ever produced. The new Victra Sport 5 premium sport tyre will be officially unveiled on the manufacturer’s stand (Hall 7, C030) at 15.00 on the opening day. According to the company, the new tyre “is set to follow in the footsteps of other recently launched products by elevating the Maxxis range to a whole new level of performance.”

Connected rally solution joins Michelin’s motorsports portfolio

Only recently, Michelin unveiled its first connected tyre solution that amateur driving enthusiasts can go out and buy for their cars. This is Track Connect, a system compatible with the newly-launched Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tyre and now on sale in several European markets. A dedicated competition version has also been developed – the tyre maker calls it Michelin Motorsport Connect, and this solution will be introduced at the next rounds of the French Rally Championship between 13 and 15 April. Michelin Motorsport Connect will then initially be released in France, with prices starting at 400 euros, before being introduced elsewhere in Europe and the rest of the world.
