Falken Tyre to mark 20th motorsport season on Nürburgring: video

Falken will contest its 20th season at the 2018 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race and subsequent VLN Endurance Championship. The Falken Motorsports driver line-up, which has been altered for 2018, are competing in its two GT3 cars, the Porsche 911 GT3 and BMW M6 GT3. Falken has also produced a video to mark the occasion of two decades on the Nordschleife “Green Hell”.

Tyre recycling company and manager sentenced for illegal Ayrshire tyre site

An Ayrshire tyre recycling company was fined £27,000 on 18 April 2018 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for waste offences at a site in Irvine. A manager was also ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work under a Community Payback Order and to pay a Confiscation Order of £44,711. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is reminding all companies of the importance of working within the regulations following this sentence.

Gratomic and Perpetuus partner in graphene tyre project

Canada-based Gratomic Inc. has signed a letter of collaboration with Perpetuus Carbon Technologies Limited to develop and market graphite-derived graphenes and graphene hybrids for tyre elastomers. According Gratomic, a number of end-user customers (which in this case means tyre manufacturers) are already road-testing tyres based on this material. Bicycle tyres, motorbike tyres, military tyres and race tyres are said to be key areas of interest.

Mexico honours Pirelli’s Tronchetti Provera

At a ceremony held at the Mexican Embassy in Rome on Monday, the Águila Azteca (Order of the Aztec Eagle) was bestowed upon Marco Tronchetti Provera. The Pirelli executive vice-president and chief executive offer received this, the highest honour the government of Mexico grants to foreigners, for services rendered to the country.

FermRFID and Camso in multi-year RFID agreement

FermRFID, a Division of FineLine Technologies, and Camso have announced a multi-year RFID development agreement to commercialize a patent pending RFID solution for solid tyres called the “plug.” The solution, which has undergone development and testing by FermRFID and Camso for two years, can uniquely identify tyres and track them throughout the entire supply chain from manufacturing, vulcanization, warehousing, shipping and at customer locations.

BKT partnering with Kultevat on dandelion rubber development

Instead of just finding dandelions growing in fields, we may soon also find them in the tyres of tractors and other agricultural vehicles that traverse these fields. Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT) sees a future for these plants as a material within the tyres it makes; it recently entered into a joint research agreement with US biotechnology company Kultevat, Inc. to develop new compounding methods based on TKS/Russian dandelion rubber, with the aim of integrating these into its tyre manufacturing process.

Directa Plus collaboration: graphene to boost Marangoni retreading performance

The performance of Marangoni retreading products is expected to benefit from a new strategic collaboration between Marangoni and Directa Plus plc, a leading producer and supplier of graphene-based products for use in consumer and industrial markets. Under the terms of the agreement, both Marangoni and Directa plus will work together to develop a bespoke version of the Directa’s Graphene Plus (G+) for use in Marangoni truck and bus tyre retreading compounds.

Pyrolyx secures funding for US plant expansion

Pyrolyx has signed a five-year mezzanine financing agreement for 5 million euros (about $6.1 million) with USAmerican Arena Growth Holdings. The capital will be used to finance global expansion, the development of production in the US, and optimization of Pyrolyx’s existing production capacity.
