Wheely-Safe launches Michelin aftermarket TPMS solution

UK technology company Wheely-Safe has released a new easy-to-fit tyre pressure management system (TPMS) for car, van, minibus, plant and trailer operators. This new product, it says, is designed to make it simple for both drivers and fleet managers to keep on top of tyre pressures.

DS Smith recycling fleet turns to Michelin solutions

Europe’s leading cardboard and paper recycler, DS Smith, has turned to Michelin solutions to supply, fit and manage the tyres across its 191-strong commercial vehicle recycling fleet, on a three-year contract. The new Effitires agreement sees Michelin solutions expand its remit with DS Smith to include 100 per cent of its vehicle parc, adding the recycling fleet to the 378 trucks and trailers already under contract from the firm’s logistics and corrugated packaging operations.

Amazon expands tyre fitting options in USA

US-based vehicle servicing chain Sears Auto Center is now working with Amazon.com to provide full-service tyre installation and balancing for customers who purchase any brand of tyres on Amazon.com. The service will be rolled out across the USA over the coming weeks. In addition, Sears Auto’s own ‘DieHard’ all-season passenger tyre brand has been introduced on Amazon.com.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions reports 75% decrease in tyre-related breakdowns

Six months into his relatively new role as Goodyear UK’s commercial sales general manager, Tyres & Accessories set down with David Howe in order to find out more about Goodyear’s latest truck tyre products and technology.

Howe comes from a consumer/car tyre background and also brings with him significant experience of the car fleet channel. Bearing in mind Goodyear’s particular recent success with commercial vehicle fleets, it is perhaps the fleet experience that is most transferable to Howe’s new role.

Truck tyre tariffs to end Chinese import tsunami

The EU’s decision to implement import tariffs on Chinese-produced truck tyres marks a sea-change in both the truck tyre market in general and European governments’ approach to the subject in particular. As of the 8 May 2018, truck tyres produced in China and imported into the UK have become between 52.85 euros and 82.17 euros per tyre more expensive than before. And what’s more, with product registration having begun back in February 2018, such charges look likely to be backdated to February on tyres already sold. This cannot fail to have an enormous impact, but what exactly will it mean for the truck tyre sector?

Dealer Tire invests in SimpleTire

Dealer Tire, LLC has announced that it is making “a significant investment” in SimpleTire, a Philadelphia-based online tyre retailer that has developed an e-commerce platform and network of independent tyre distributors. Terms of Dealer Tire’s investment were not disclosed. The news follows Dealer Tire’s decision to invest in Tyrata – a Duke University tyre sensor and data startup – in February 2018.

Dunlop ready for ‘extreme demands’ of the 24h Nürburgring race

The 24h race at the Nürburgring is billed as the biggest race in the world, with 151 vehicles and more than 500 drivers taking part. Dunlop is equipping numerous professional and ambitious customer teams for the race on 12 – 13 May. They will compete on a 25.4-kilometre combination of the Grand Prix course and the Nordschleife. This year, the tyre brand says it is “on the mission to defend” its 2017 title. Dunlop and Audi achieved overall victory last year, setting a record-breaking distance of 4,009.7 kilometres.

Cooper Tires returns as RX2 International Series presenting sponsor

In addition to serving as title sponsor to the World RX of Great Britain and supplying tyres to all World RX teams, Cooper Tire Europe has been confirmed as presenting sponsor to the RX2 International Series. This is the second consecutive year the tyre maker has acted in this capacity.

Mitas sponsoring 8 Speedway Grand Prix riders

Mitas reports that it has signed sponsorship agreements with eight riders competing in the 2018 FIM Speedway Grand Prix, which decides the 73rd FIM Speedway World Championship. The Trelleborg Group company will serve as a tyre sponsor for Jason Doyle (2017 World Champion), Patryk Dudek, Tai Woffinden (2013 and 2015 World Champion), Bartosz Zmarzlik, Emil Sayfutdinov, Matej Žagar, Martin Vaculik and Przemyslaw Pawlicki.
