Hankook releases new generation all-season tyre

Look carefully for the superscript – Hankook Tire has unveiled its fifth generation of all-season tyre for Europe. It’s called the Hankook Kinergy 4S², and despite the naming similarities is a completely redeveloped product. The Kinergy 4S² comes to market in June 2018 with a launch range of 17 sizes in the 14- to 17-inch rim diameter bracket. From the second half of the year, the range will be expanded to 64 sizes for 14- to 20-inches.

Thinking ahead: Hankook Tire preparing for IAA CV

Even though Hankook Tire is now – as are many within the tyre industry – making final preparations for next week’s The Tire Cologne, the tyre maker is already getting ready for the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicles fair. Offering a sneak preview of what we can expect to see this September, it shares that the show in Hannover, Germany will host the world premiere of a new Hankook mixed on- and off-road tyre line-up that includes steer, drive and trailer axle fitments. Hankook Tire also intends to announce further growth in its business with truck OEMs.

MWheels to work with DfT to improve CV wheel safety

Negotiations to rectify the Department for Transport’s apparent failure to incorporate European Union Directives 2014/45/EU and 2014/47/EU into the wheel-related section of the new Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual has yielded a positive result for MWheels. The commercial vehicle wheel specialist shares that following a meeting with the DfT, DVSA and Parliamentary representative Mike Kane MP on 17 May, the DfT “has agreed to work with MWheels to investigate ways in which the Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual’s section on wheels can be enhanced to improve vehicle safety.”

Bridgestone voted Australia’s most trusted tyre brand

Australian Reader’s Digest has compiled and released its 2018 Most Trusted Brands list, and Bridgestone returns as a top-ten trusted brand. The tyre maker was ranked in tenth place across all trusted brands categories, finishing ahead of Aussie staples such as Vegemite and Aerogard. Bridgestone also claimed the title of ‘Australia’s Most Trusted Tyre Brand’ – a distinction introduced in 2014 – for the fifth consecutive year. Goodyear and Michelin were named as ‘highly recommended’ brands in the tyre category.

New look and feel for Barkley

The ‘new look’ Barkley range will be shown at The Tire Cologne next week. With a refreshed corporate identity, including a restyled barkley-tyres.com website, Barkley will exhibit at the trade fair (Hall 7.1, Stand E-020, E-028) along with its latest truck, agricultural and OTR tyres.

Truck tyre tariffs to cause shortages

On 7 May the European Commission announced that it is implementing provisional anti-dumping duties of between 52.85 euros and 82.17 euros per tyre on new and retreaded tyres imported into Europe from China. It is a landmark move that is already having a huge impact on truck tyre markets across Europe. Proactive Solutions helps Reynolds’ fleet tyre costs

Goodyear Proactive Solutions has helped a leading UK fresh food fleet reduce its tyre costs by almost 25 per cent. Reynolds, which is based in Waltham Cross, London, was keen to sign up to the system to help it mitigate against rising costs on its 234-vehicle fleet, which includes 19 trailers, local and regional haulage plus some logistic deliveries.

STARCO to distribute Kenda car tyre range in Switzerland

Ready for the summer season, the STARCO subsidiary in Switzerland has received the first car tyres from Kenda and is ready to begin its new role as the brand’s national distributor. Commenting on the new arrangement, STARCO’s Richard Todd noted that the company was exploring many synergies with Kenda over both the short and long-term.

Higher sales, earnings at Yokohama Rubber in Q1 2018

The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. posted an 8.3 per cent increase in business profit (a measure basically equivalent to operating income and calculated as sales revenue less the sum of cost of sales and selling, general and administrative expenses) to 11.7 billion yen (£78.6 million), and a 27.5 per cent increase in operating profit to 14.1 billion yen (£94.8 million) in the first quarter of 2018. The company’s sales revenue in the three months to 31 March 2018 increased 2.3 per cent to 149.2 billion yen (£1.0 billion), the highest sales total ever reported by Yokohama Rubber.
