Kwik Fit named new BTCC title sponsor

When the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) returns for the 2019 season, it will have a new title sponsor. TOCA has announced that automotive servicing and repair company Kwik Fit is succeeding Dunlop in this capacity; Goodyear Dunlop will remain tyre supplier to the BTCC under its current contract, which runs until at least 2022.

BKT for Escorts’ automated tractor

During its Escorts Exclusive 2018 dealers and partners event in September, Indian agricultural machinery manufacturer Escorts Limited presented its first driverless tractor. The Automated Concept Tractor was produced in collaboration with seven technology firms – Microsoft, Reliance Jio, Trimble, Samvardhana Motherson Group, Wabco, Bosch and AVL – and utilises sensor-provided data and applications. Tyres were provided by BKT.

B2C tyre business: Pneo throws its hat into the ring

Aged just 18, Phil-Kevin Sell founded German online tyre retailer fritzreifen in 2011, and followed this two years later with a mobile tyre fitting service, GoJames. Now, together with GoJames management team members Moritz Kampmann and Sebastian Severin Schulte, Sell has his eyes on a much bigger prize: They aim to establish Europe’s “leading B2C tyre platform.” This B2C platform is called Pneo, and the GoJames team intends to launch it by April 2019.

Prinx Chengshan goes public ahead of expansion drive

With the striking of a ceremonial gong, Prinx Chengshan (Cayman) Holding Limited went live on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange at precisely 9:30am on 9 October. The tyre maker’s listing last month followed nearly a year of preparations and represents an important step in a growth and internationalisation strategy that also includes producing in Southeast Asia and making greater inroads into European and North American markets.

Leadership team, private equity firm acquire Coker Group

US-based vintage and classic tyre manufacturer the Coker Group has new owners. Four years after the death of company founder Harold Coker, the Coker family has sold the business to Wade Kawasaki, the company’s president and chief executive officer, and the current Coker Group leadership team in partnership with private equity firm Irving Place Capital.

Stapleton’s switching to a Michelin policy after successful trial
