Maxxis’ high performance offering elevated with latest test results

Several positive results for Maxxis in the recent round of magazine tyre tests have been cited as “defining proof that motorists can obtain premium tyres which balance high performance and reliability at a surprisingly affordable price.” The tyre manufacturer said recommendations gained from a range of international motoring titles shows it is “bridging the technological gap on longer established European brand alternatives.”

John Oates Horseboxes fits Wheely-Safe to address major industry safety issue

Midlands-based John Oates Horseboxes is introducing a new retrofit technology on both its new and used vehicles to address the issue of tyre under-inflation, which the company’s Head of Sales James Haddock describes as a “major problem in the market”.

The bespoke horsebox manufacturer has teamed up with official Michelin licensee Wheely-Safe to offer the Michelin Tyre Pressure Management System (TPMS) Light Fleet across all its horseboxes.

Giti Tire SUV products outpacing market growth

Year-on-year growth in the SUV tyre segment has become something of a given in recent years. The popularity of this market segment has been a beacon for car-makers in Europe, as the number of new models in the last decade shows. In terms of tyres, this has meant increases in larger, higher value products, both in the original equipment and replacement markets, the results of which are analysed elsewhere in this section. Volume and value growth in the UK replacement market, at 10 and 15 per cent respectively, has been healthy again in the last year.

Michelin to display connected tyre solutions from RHA stand at CV Show

Michelin will exhibit its latest generation connected tyre technologies in a dedicated zone on the Road Haulage Association’s (RHA) stand at the Commercial Vehicle Show for the second successive year. The company will showcase two new wheel and tyre safety systems, designed and manufactured by Wheely-Safe, an official Michelin licensee, for fitment to vehicles regardless of tyre brand policy.

Kumho the strongest ‘local’ in South Korea’s aftermarket

It may not be the best-selling Korean tyre brand worldwide, but at home Kumho outsells its domestic rivals. Data from the Korea Tire Manufacturers Association (KOTMA) indicates that 6.52 million replacement market Kumho tyres were sold in South Korea in 2018. This is more than 40 per cent of all locally-made tyres sold in the country.

Zenises promotes ‘urban proof’ SUV tyre

With SUV tyre market share continuing to grow, and with SUVs providing the driving comfort of a saloon, but with an exterior shape reminiscent of when 4×4 meant ‘off-road’, Zenises reports that it has crafted what it calls an “Urban Proof Sport Utility Vehicle Tyre”. As you can imagine, the Z UP SUV is aimed at everyday driving in the urban environment.

Algeria’s first tyre plant completes first test phase

On 26 March 2019 the Iris Group announced “the success of the first test phase” of its “100 per cent made in Algeria” tyre factory. Celebrating the news, the company thanks its partnership and stakeholders for their efforts up to this point: “All this could not have been done without the perfect involvement of our collaborators, a big thank you to all!”

Giti’s US plant approved for tyre supply to VW

Giti Tire’s United States manufacturing facility in South Carolina has completed an audit by Volkswagen to supply two tyre sizes for the 2019 Volkswagen Passat. The plant can now officially begin producing the All-Season GitiComfort A1 as an original equipment fitment for the Passat in sizes 235/45R18 95H and 235/40R19 92H. Production commences in the first quarter of the year; these tyres are the US plant’s first original equipment supplied tyres.

MotoGP Dunlop prepared for Triumph power

This coming weekend marks the start of this year’s FIM Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships. The 19-round season begins in Qatar and continues through to a concluding round in Valencia, Spain in November. For Dunlop, this is its tenth season in Moto2 – the tyre maker has served as official tyre partner since the championship’s inception. Dunlop says it was chosen for this role after becoming the most successful tyre in the open-competition 250GP class that preceded it.

One for the road: Michelin introduces RoadBib for roadgoing 200+hp tractors

Following nearly two years of extensive end-user testing with agricultural contractors across Europe, Michelin has launched its new RoadBib tyres in the original equipment and replacement markets. With the RoadBib, Michelin has introduced the first fitment for 200+hp tractors to be specifically designed to provide high performance, longevity and traction on machines used intensively on the road.
