Delticom reports stable profits for H1 2019

Delticom AG has managed to maintain its gross profit level in the first half of the year despite a slight decrease in sales compared with the prior-year period. Revenues amounted to 285 million euros in the six months to 30 June 2019, 2.1 per cent less year-on-year. Gross profit was 76.9 million euros, nearly unchanged compared to the previous year; stable profits and lower sales meant that the gross margin slightly grew to 21.9 per cent (H1 2018: 21.7%).

BKT: No USA plant for the “foreseeable future”

The likelihood of seeing BKT tyres ‘Made in the USA’ appears even more uncertain following an earnings call held by Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) on 13 August. Although the tyre maker reported three days earlier that the 20,000 tonne per annum factory project was just “in abeyance”, comments made during the call suggest the pause on work is more than temporary.

New Zealand planning regulated ELT stewardship

The New Zealand government is looking to introduce a regulated product stewardship scheme for end of life tyres (ELTs) that places financial responsibility upon importers and retailers to ensure their products are recycled. Tyres are one of six priority products identified by the country’s Ministry for the Environment. The ministry is seeking consultation on proposed guidelines for regulatory product stewardship schemes and is accepting submissions until 4 October.

Winter growth for GT Radial following all-season product introduction

Axle appoints group procurement director

Axle Group Holdings Limited, which incorporates National Tyres and Autocare, National Fleet and Viking Wholesale Tyres, has appointed Alastair Lawrence as group procurement director. Lawrence will be taking over from Peter Harries who retires in December after 11 years with the group. The role will focus on developing and implementing the group purchasing strategy whilst maximising growth and maintaining effective supplier relationships.

Continental discussing ‘need for action’ with employee representatives

Continental is the latest automotive sector company to report lower year-on-year income in the second quarter of the year. The tyre maker and automotive systems supplier describes its fiscal performance during the period as “an overall solid” result despite a “sharply declining market.” It is nevertheless considering ways of keeping its production costs in check, and will report its progress to this end in the weeks to come.
